Please share with students and families WMEA Junior All-State Baker and Rainier Bands, Junior All-State Mixed, Treble and Youth Choirs, Junior All-State Orchestra February 16, 2019 Vancouver Congratulations! As a result of your outstanding audition, you have been selected to participate in a Junior All-State honor group in Vancouver. As a member of one of these select groups, there are several steps you must take. Please go over this information very carefully with your parents and teacher, with particular attention to deadlines for registration and payment of fees. REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT OF FEES Carefully complete your registration form, obtain all required signatures, and return to your school music teacher immediately. Payment of all fees must come from, and be processed through your school or district. If you are expected to personally fund part or all of your participation expense, you will need to pay the school, which will then pay WMEA. Many schools assist students with the cost of participation. ASBs, booster clubs, and other local organizations may be willing to help you. Registration and payment of $115 must be postmarked by December 3. Late registrations will be charged an additional $10 per student. Refund policy: During December after registering, $80 refunded. During January, $55 refunded. During February, no refunds for any reason. MUSIC Music will be mailed to your school music teacher beginning the first week of January, although if registration and payment is postmarked by November 21, we hope to mail that music starting December 10. Note: We will not mail music until all registrations received, and all fees paid by your school/district. Once your music has arrived, label all loose pages in pencil with your name and school. If you believe you have received the wrong music or parts, contact your school music teacher immediately. Finally practice, practice, practice. Lunch will be provided at rehearsal sites for students by WMEA. Students must remain onsite throughout the day. SCHEDULE Registration...9:00-9:45 Rehearsal...10:00-12:00 Lunch (provided by WMEA)...12:30-1:00 (approximate) Rehearsal...1:00-5:00 Concert...5:30 Parents, family, friends and teachers are welcome to observe rehearsals throughout the day except for the closed sound checks which will take place between approximately 3:00 and 5:00 PM. The Baker Band, Rainier Band and the Orchestra will perform at Clark College. (see address above,) Campus Map: The Mixed Choir, Treble Choir and Youth Choir will perform at the Oregon Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A-1. Oregon Convention Center Exhibit Hall A-1, 777 NE M L King Blvd, Portland, OR All choral students will be transported to the convention center by WMEA via commercial transportation. The concerts are free of charge to parents, family, friends and teachers. You will have an opportunity to purchase commemorative photos, plaques and recordings at your concert. Pre-order forms are included in this packet. At the conclusion of your concert, your parents or music teacher are responsible for you and your transportation home. WHAT TO WEAR Dress comfortably for rehearsals during the day. School appropriate clothing is fine. For your concert, you should bring a pair of dark dress pants (no jeans) and dark shoes and socks. Ladies in the orchestra may wear a dark, long skirt. You will wear your WMEA Junior All-State t-shirt to give the group a uniform look. T-shirts will be distributed at your rehearsal and are included in your participation fees. By electing to participate in WMEA Junior All-State, you, your parents and teacher agree that you will not leave rehearsal or other activities between check in and the conclusion of the concert. Doing so will result in your removal from the group. Band and Orchestra participants---bring a folding music stand!! Everyone---bring your music!!! 3 2019 WMEA Junior All-State Rehearsal and Concert Venues Our Junior All-State Baker Band, Rainier Band and Orchestra will meet at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington. That is where the rehearsals and concert will take place. Clark College 1933 Fort Vancouver Way Vancouver, WA Link to campus map: Parking at Clark College should be available in the giant Red 3 Lot off Fort Vancouver Way. Most convenient drop off should be between the Red 3 and Red 1 lots. The Baker Band will rehearse in the Penguin Union Building, Room 161. The Orchestra will rehearse in the Penguin Union Building, Room 258 ABC. The Rainier Band will rehearse in the O Connell Sports Center Gym. The Junior All-State Instrumental Concert will be held in the O Connell Sports Center Gym Our Junior All-State Mixed Choir, Treble Choir and Youth Choir will rehearse at Benson Poly Tech High School. That is where everyone should report to in the morning. Benson Poly Tech High School 546 Northeast 12th Avenue Portland, OR Entrance to the school is on 12 th. The main parking lot is on 15 th with other on street parking as well. Parking for the Oregon Convention Center is either the Convention Center lot, or nearby streets. The Mixed Choir will rehearse in the Cafeteria. The Treble Choir will rehearse in the Band Room. The Youth Choir will rehearse in the Auditorium. The Junior All-State Choral Concert will be held at the Oregon Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A-1 Oregon Convention Center 777 NE M L King Blvd, Portland, OR Exhibit Hall A-1 All choral students will be transported to the Oregon Convention Center by WMEA via commercial transportation.
