Scooter Track Opening At the end of last term, on a damp Wheels Wednesday Mrs Breading cut the ribbon and officially opened our new scooter track! Last year, Mrs Breading s class along with Room 2 came up with the idea, and it was very impressive see it finally coming fruition. This was possible because of the generosity and help from the following people and we wish thank you all hugely for your support. Be sure check out our art display in the project shed and support our Agri Kids Jordan Brown, Alex McCorkindale and Jamie-Lee Gilmour as they compete for this year s title at 1.30pm in the cattle area. SAUSAGE SIZZLE There will be NO Junior sausage sizzle next week at school (Tuesday 20 th Ocber) due the BBQ being at Athletics Day at Ellesmere College SCHOLATIC BOOK ORDERS Book orders are due back in the office no later than Thursday 5 th November. Please note if late orders are received they will be returned you and you are able order online. Please make cheques out SCHOLASTIC not the school. You can also order on line visit: mybookclub.scholastic.co.nz. EAST CLUB PET DAY EAST Club is on next week on Thursday 22nd Ocber at the Ellesmere Showgrounds. Pets can arrive any time after 9am on the day with judging beginning at 10am. Science and Technology projects can be handed in school on Wednesday 21st Ocber or can be taken the A and P Showgrounds on Wednesday afternoon between 4pm 5pm or the projects can be presented on the day. Science and Technology judging will begin at 10am in the display shed. The grand parade begins at 11:30am in the ring. There will be a sausage sizzle and drinks available on the day. $2 for a sausage and $1 for a milk drink or a fizzy drink. The EAST Club day will finish up at midday. Children will return school at midday. If your child is taking their pet home with you and won't be returning school you need let your child s teacher know. Those children who aren t exhibiting will be walking the showgrounds leaving school at 10.00am and returning by 12.30pm. Please fill in the form below if you can help with supervision for your child s class. Please ensure your child has warm clothing and sensible working shoes. Permission is covered by the generic permission form for local trips that you signed at the beginning of the year. However if you do not want your child go, please let your child s teacher know. The postponement day is Friday 23rd Ocber. 3 CLASS PLACEMENTS FOR 2016 Early this term, team leaders will be meeting begin compiling classes for If you have any information regarding the learning needs of your child for 2016 that you would like us be aware of, please before Friday 30 th of Ocber. Please be aware that we can not action requests for individual teachers. ICT AND E-LEARNING This term Lisa McClure will be running a series of drop-in parent workshops based around the use of an i-pad and the google world for beginners. These will run every Tuesday morning from am in Rom 8, starting from the 27 Ocber (with the exception of the 17 th and 24 th of November). I-pads and lapps will be supplied. For planning purposes, if you are interested in coming along, please register your intent by ing Lisa on lisam@leesn.school.nz As of 2016, the middle and senior school will be encouraging children bring an electronic device (no mobile phones) school on a daily basis enhance their learning in the classroom in a creative way. Our strong preference is for the device be an i-pad mini or an i-pad. Before bringing their device, each child will need complete a memorandum of understanding so that both you and your child are clear about the use of this device. At break times the device will not be available for children access games. As a starting point, suggested apps would be Google apps (google drive, docs, slides, classroom) Mathletics Spelling City Explain everything Tellaglami Bookcraft As we are nearing Christmas, this could be a great way share the buying of a Christmas present. Please note that this will not be compulsory nor is it a necessity, as there are currently five i-pads in each class as well as numerous desk p computers and chrome books. The advantage of children bringing their own device in 2016 is that they will have immediate guaranteed access the above applications. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate contact Lisa at the address above. CAR RALLY 150 th SCHOOL RE-UNION 1 st November 2015, 10am, (meeting from 9.30am at school grounds). $5 per car. Fun morning out for all ages, come learn some hisry about our school. ** Helpers needed for morning man the four sps for approximately 2 hours. Preferably one adult and one child per station. If you are able assist please contact Vicki or ** SCHOOL PHOTOS These should now have come home with your child. Please get all orders back in the office by Thursday 5 th November. Any late orders will have be sent directly the phographer at your expense. SLAP ON A HAT All children are required wear sun hats which gives cover the face, ears and neck, caps are not suitable. These hats are be in blue or red and shall have no logo labels on them. NO HAT / NO PLAY will be enforced - 3 -

4 URGENT HELP REQUIRED We need more volunteers help watch the Baby Farm yard area at the show on Saturday morning. Please contact me day if you can help. Looking for someone for 9am 10am and another person 11am 12pm. We also need as many helpers as possible help with the Catering of the 150th meet and greet on Friday 30th Ocber. We are now catering for over 500 people. Need help making sandwiches, cooking savouries and serving the food. Please contact me if you can help with wither of these events. 5 SPORTS ROUND UP PORTER HEIGHTS SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS Last term Caleb Macdonald, Oliver West and Georgia Macdonald competed at the Porter Heights Ski Championships. The children competed in a long distance slalom course. It was a lovely day but the track was icy. Caleb got 21 st overall, Oliver 25 th and Georgia 66 th. The children enjoyed their day and we would like say a big thank you Arran Macdonald and Chris West for organising the team and supporting the children in this event. INTER REGIONAL CROSS COUNTRY RACE At the end of term three Alex McCorkindale represented Canterbury in the Inter Regional Cross Country event in Blenheim. Alex had trained throughout the term with the Canterbury team. He came 10 th overall and 5 th in his team. The event was won by Wellingn, second was Canterbury A, and Alex s team (Canterbury B) got third. This was a fantastic result. Well done Alex! NEW ZEALAND GYMSPORTS CHAMPIONSHIPS During the holidays Jade Mitchell competed at the New Zealand Trampoline Championships in Auckland. She was representing Canterbury in three events. Jade came 4 th in the Women s Synchronised Trampoline, 7 th in in Individual Tramp and 11 th in the Double Mini. Great effort Jade! SPORTS DAY REMINDER The Athletics Day for Senior and Middle School is Tuesday 20 th September (week 2) at Ellesmere College. The Junior Syndicate will hold their own athletics event on Tuesday 3 rd November (week 4) at school starting at 11.00am. The long distance run will be held on Thursday 29 Ocber at Leesn School starting at 9.15am with the 7 year olds running first. The children will progress through the age groups finishing with the 11 year olds. The Ellesmere Zone sports will be held on Thursday 5 November at Southbridge School for children who make it through the next level (9 years and above). Please remind your child wear appropriate shoes for the day and children can wear their house colours if they want. (Pultney = blue, D Arcy = yellow, Market = red and Selwyn = green.) Make sure children bring a large lunch and drink. There will be sausages available buy at the college for $2 and Juicy drinks for $1.50. Children are NOT ALLOWED buy from the Ellesmere Canteen. We look forward seeing parents at Ellesmere College supporting their children

7 COMMUNITY NOTICES Sign up be part of Shakeout On Thursday 15 Ocber New Zealanders will have the chance practice what they would do in a real earthquake as part of a national earthquake drill called Shakeout. Shakeout was first held in 2012 and 1.3million New Zealanders ok part in the drill. In Selwyn, over 6,500 people have already registered take part in Shakeout. The advice from experts on what do in earthquake is simple: DROP down on your hands and knees. This position protects you from falling items but allows you move if necessary COVER your head and neck (and your entire body if possible) under a sturdy table or desk (if it is no more than a few steps away from you). If there is no shelter nearby, get down near an interior wall (or next low-lying furniture that won t fall on you), and cover your head and neck with your arms and hands. HOLD on your shelter (or your position protect your head and neck) until the shaking sps. Be prepared move with your shelter if the shaking moves it around. You can sign your family or your business up take part in Shakeout online at SCIENCE ALIVE Market (on NEW SITE beside the Lincoln Library) - Sat 24th Oct 10 am 1 pm - A science themed event featuring the SCIENCE ALIVE team who are running a "Grossology - Fun with slime" Workshop between pm. Cost $2 per child - booking essential as limited spaces ph The Science Alive retail sre will be on site with a cool range of science games & gifts throughout the event. Other free activities on the day include a Science Scavenger Hunt. PLUS lots of genuine local produce, food stalls and crafts. See The Lincoln Market will be at NEW SITE beside the Lincoln Library from Sat 10th Oct. LEESTON RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB TOUCH SEASON The Leesn Rugby Football Club is starting Touch up again starting again on Friday, 16 TTH Ocber 2015 and this will run until Friday, 12 th December Touch will recommence after the Christmas period on Friday, 22 nd January We will not be running Touch the night of the Christmas parade down the Main Street of Leesn. There will be NO TOUCH ON Friday, 23 rd Ocber, Friday, 30 th Ocber and the Friday of Canterbury AMP Show. Juniors (4-12 years) will be run as a drop in sport. Encourage all Junior Players come along and we will make up teams on the Friday night. Juniors will start at 5:00 pm. Seniors Mixed teams will require at least 2 women/girls on field at all times. (Tries will be worth two points). The Adults Teams is 13 years of age and up. It is $ per team per team. Adults Teams games will commence at 6 pm. If you wish register a Senior Mixed Team please Alex Cathcart, Phone No or alexandcraig@slingshot.co.nz. Please ENSURE that you have registered by the 1 st Ocber with Alex Cathcart. There is a Facebook page called "Leesn Touch Rugby" where people can go ask questions etc. Alex Cathcart s Phone No. is All Cancellations and Draws will be available on the Facebook page as well. We are also seeking anyone who is keen referee. Please contact Alex Cathcart if you are interested or know of anyone that is interested. All rugby clubs and social clubs etc welcome. We will be having a BBQ every Friday night selling, sausages, bacon sandwiches and drinks. Ellesmere Combined Netball Club, AGM Wednesday 9th December, 7:30pm, Leesn Netball Centre, Carsn St All are welcome at our upcoming AGM. All Office Bearing Positions are open for nominations and will be voted for on the night. We have many existing committee member keen stay on but we are always looking for new keen members join us.
