2 Page 2 PRINCIPAL S MESSAGE Amazing as it seems, we have now entered the final month of the year! Our activity classes are completing their final projects and field trips are coming to a close. We are focusing on having a successful finish to the year! June is a very important month academically! As a staff we will do our best to have our students prepared and ready to write their finals. It is important that students complete assignments, review the years work and ask teachers for assistance as we finish off a successful year. Review packages have been complied to help students focus on the important concepts covered over the course of the year s work. Please make use of the extra time that teachers provide to help students during class and at lunch hours. Parents can help by creating a dedicated time at home to complete required assignments and start working through review of the four core subjects. Parents can check DASH and Home Logic to keep an eye on what is occurring in the classroom. Together we will all be proud of our accomplishments for the year!! Thanks to Mr. Babiuk and our P.E. department who organized a great day of Track! The weather was perfect and athletes had a superb day. Qualifiers from our Track have represented our school at the District Track Meet and congratulations to those athletes that qualified for Zones. Good luck to all our participants. Thanks to Mrs. Aubin and her grade nine play production class. Her play Spit N Miss It Run was a huge success. Great acting and some laughs made for a wonderful two evenings of performances. I am always amazed at the high quality of acting in addition to the number of lines the actors have to remember. A years work brought to perfection! We had our final Parent Council meeting of the year this past Monday. We would like to thank our council for their hard work and continued support of our school. Thanks to Cheryl Wright our Trustee who attended our Monday meetings. Parent Council has a Casino in October and they will be canvassing for help in the fall. With a mixed heart, I am announcing JoAnn Blachford s transfer to Sir George Simpson Junior High. This is a great opportunity for JoAnn to experience a new school in her career. She has donated countless hours of Crusader Pride into our building and our students. She will be missed and we know she might be wearing SGS red on the outside but will remain Crusader green on the inside. On the other hand we are pleased to announce that Peter Fenton will be our new Assistant Principal. Peter is a teacher with a lot of experience who is entering administration and is looking forward to becoming a Crusader. Mike Tod, Principal

7 Page 7 Leaders of Tomorrow May 3rd the Leadership 9 class was awarded the prestigious LEADERS of TOMORROW award at a banquet and brunch. This ceremony also was for the Citizen of the Year for the city of St Albert. There were many dignitaries there including the Mayor, Stephen Khan, our MLA, our superintendent Mr. Wowk and two of our trustees - Cheryl Dumont and Glenys Edwards. We are given the royal treatment by the committee; they served us a beautiful brunch and we were given many gifts and coupons from businesses in St Albert. Overall, the morning was fantastic and a true honor for our class; we do not do all of the volunteering for the recognition, but it certainly was nice to be spoiled for a day! Thanks to the St Albert Community Information and Volunteer Center for the award. Girl Power 9 Girl Power 9 have been working with the "Baby Think It Over" project. They are getting a small experience of what it is like to have a baby and the work you need to do to provide for a baby. The girls have had a very positive attitude with this project and they are doing very well with the "Baby Think It Over". We also had a chance to attend the G.E.T.T. conference (Girls Exploring Trade and Technology). It was held at the Edmonton Expo and was a full day of learning about the trades and getting hands on experience by trying the trades. The girls had a really fun day and it got them thinking towards the future and maybe what career they would like to work towards.

Students walk a loop and received a bead for every one completed, this was their own personal beaded journey, just like the one kids going through cancer create. There was a jumpy castle and a slurpee truck to encourage them on. It was a beautiful day, and a good time was had by all. Their goal was to raise $2500 and they exceeded $6000. Way to go Leadership 8!
10 RECREATION ACADEMY Page 8 The excitement mounts! On June 19th, from 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM, our team of 60 strong will pull together to face a host of various activities - things we have enjoyed over the year - to challenge the "Second Annual Crusader Adventure Race". It will not be for the faint of heart - darn good thing no such individual is part of our Rec group! We will swim, climb, shoot arrows, mud-bog-crawl and innovate our way through events designed to reward the creative and team spirited. It will - like last year - be a blast! More information will be coming home soon. Your Recreation Academy staff, Alex Reiser, Kevin Witschen and George Mentz would like to thank you for sharing your son/daughter with us over the year. It has been a fabulous bunch of kids and we will miss those not returning next year, especially our grade nines who were such strong role models. We are also excited to be welcoming back our Rec veterans for a varied and awesome new school year. Happy summer to you all. 11 Page 9 Hockey Academy The Hockey Academy year is winding down and the students are getting ready for their year end assessments. The student-athletes had a fantastic month of on-ice sessions and off-ice activities that took them to Fountain Park pool and St. Albert Tennis club for tennis lessons. June looks to be a fun month of final skating assessments and some fun to end the year. June also brings a bitter/sweet feeling as it has been a fantastic first year for the hockey academy and we say goodbye and good luck to our grade nine students who are moving on to high school. (Sam Milner, Bleyd Hammond, and Nate Reinhart) Good luck to all in upcoming final exams and have a fantastic summer holidays!
