Page 2 PRINCIPAL S MESSAGE Spring has finally sprung! The days are getting longer and warmer. The snow is gone and the grass is turning green. The students can sense the looming freedom of summer. However, with only two months of school left, they still have 50% of their final marks to earn, so this is the time of year that they need to be the most focused and when attendance is the most important. Part A of the Language Arts final exam is in one week! Grade nine math PAT review sessions are already underway. This is an important time of year to keep an eye on the DASH calendars. The next two months are also jam-packed full of exciting and meaningful learning activities. In May, the grade sevens are off on their annual trip to Drumheller. Our Recreation Academy is traveling to Nordegg for three days of hiking and mountain biking. Our grade nine drama class is staging their production of The Seusification of Romeo and Juliet. The rugby season gets underway and we have our track meets. Then it's June. We kick the month off with our Grade Nine Farewell, followed by the Grade Nine Day Out and SMILES Day. The following week we have our annual Walk-a -Thon, with this year's proceeds going to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in memory of our educational assistant, Mrs. Cory. Then it's the spring band and guitar concerts to celebrate the musicians in the school. And finally, Aboriginal Day, a most important day where we gather with the other junior high school's in the district in the spirit of Reconciliation. So get ready for a busy finish to the school year!. Peter Fenton, Principal
Page 3 Art W.D. Cuts fine arts have just finished our annual district art show at St. Albert City Hall. We had the privilege to be able to display pieces of art from 45 of our grade seven, eight and nine students. Opening night had great attendance of students from kindergarten to grade 12 and music from the Rock and Pop program at Paul Kane High School. What a treat! Band Tour April marked the annual band tour. Our students joined forces with Lorne Akins students and journeyed to Kelowna for a 4 day tour. They played many venues, went to Scandia golf and games, swimming and shopping. For the first time ever, Mr. Demuynck won a round of mini golf. Way to go Mr. D! It was a very successful trip and a great time was had by all.

Page 6 Cheer Spring marks the end of our cheer competition season. Our team has had a successful season and the development of the team has come a long way since September. Congratulations to all our athletes, we look forward to another great season next year! A big thank you to our Mrs. Brown-Allnutt and our coach Mrs. Linda Bland for all your hard work. Drama 9 The Drama 9 class is rehearsing The Seussification of Romeo & Juliet in preparation for their May performances. The show is a "lamentable, horrible, gross comedy" about how teenage love resolves "an ancient grudge match" between two feuding families. Great for the whole family, our show has action, romance, lamentation, and bologna! Tickets will be by donation at the door. Public performances will be on Thursday, May 24 and Friday, May 25; the show starts at 8:00pm both days, and will be in the Drama facility at the school. School Council Our school council will meet at 7pm on May 28th, in our staff room. Everyone is welcome!

Page 10 The month of May will hopefully bring the warmth we are craving. We will be hitting up the trails of St Albert on our bicycles, scooters and long boards. Please dust off and tune up your bikes in preparation. Also, your bikes will need to be ready for our Spring Optional Trip (May 30th - June 2nd). Sean, from Velofix will be here and giving a tutorial on how to trouble shoot some common bike issues. Get your bikes ready!!! If you do not own a bike, make sure to let one of you Rec Academy teachers know and we will organize a bike for you.
Page 11 HOCKEY ACADEMY Hockey Academy is well into our Strength and Conditioning phase on the ice. Students are working with resistance bands, parachutes, and other instruments to help them build the power and explosiveness in their game. Off the ice, the focus is the same with building both the body and the mind for the next hockey season. We look forward to a great month of May in the academy!
