Seahawks fans do have hopes for next year because they expect a number of returning stars, a head coach and a general manager with an eye for underappreciated talent, a dedicated fan base and something my wife, Eileen, noticed: "a crazy, fierce tenacity." I like that. Crazy, fierce tenacity. Isn't that what we want our children to develop: an unrelenting, undaunted determination to reach to the next level regardless of obstacles and setbacks? The writer of the book of Hebrews exhorted his readers in a similar vein, Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him. But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul. Hebrews 10:35-39 Our new Student Learning Outcomes declare that we want our students to be "Tenacious Navigators." They do not want for examples. Did you notice the Hawk's performance during the second half the divisional playoffs? Though ultimately Russell and his teammates came up short, it was not for a lack of determination and grit... 2 Robogator News! Page 2 SHORELINE, WA Saturday, January 23, Northshore s very own Robogators Teams 1 and 2 arrived at Shoreline community college at 8 a.m. in preparation for the FLL (First Lego League) Regional Semi-Finals. The teams spent the morning in intense judging sessions. There are 3 judging sessions consisting of a presentation and questioning in 3 areas of focus: Core Values, Project and Robot. There are 560 FLL teams that compete in Washington. Of these teams it is narrowed down to 120 that compete at Semi-Finals and from there, approximately 30 will advance to state championships. There were very strong teams at Semi-Finals; Robogators prayed together and put their best foot forward. Passing out Robogator pins, they walked around meeting other teams and reading about their projects. Clapping, encouraging and congratulating other teams was high priority for the Robogators. At 1:00 the robot competition began. Robots compete 3 times at the table and teams keep their best score of the rounds. Team 1 s final score was in the 500 s placing them in 9 th place on the board. Team 2 s final score was 732, placing them in 1 st place. Both teams walked away with judges awards. Team 1 was awarded the Core Values: Gracious Professionalism award. An amazing award for a team that is most definitely deserving of this! Team 2 was recognized for two awards consisting of Robot: Strategy and Innovation award and an award for the highest score at the tables, Robot: Performance award! At the end of a long day, the 8 teams moving on to State Championships are announced. We were on pins and needles with excitement. READY FOR THIS?! Advancing on to state championships in 2016 is.. Drumroll please Please give a huge congratulations to the following students and families for the countless hours they have poured into representing Northshore at these events. 3 Musical News! Page 3 Speaking for the musical team, we couldn t be more excited for The Little Mermaid, Jr.! Though rehearsals have only just begun, it s been tremendous to see the initiative and drive the students have had to learn their parts! Every rehearsal, we see more and more of who the characters are as the students get more comfortable with their parts. The process of turning a middle schooler into a mermaid, King of the Sea, a crab, or a seagull is one that s impressive to watch and fun to participate in. Thank you all for the support you give your kiddos as well as us as we begin this journey Under the Sea! -Ms.Beth Ross Save the date! Wednesday, April 27th, we will be having a special time honoring moms at our first annual Mother s Day Chapel! Speech Meet By now your students have their speeches memorized and they are practicing in class and at home! Classrooms final run-offs will be this Wednesday and Thursday! What is Anxiety? How much Is Normal? This event is offered for 3rd-8th grade parents to come and listen to Dr. Lisa Sullivan, Psy.D talk about the thoughts and questions parents have about anxiety and how much is normal. This will be a great opportunity to hear from an expert in the psychology field speak about issues that students deal with on a daily basis. 5 Did You Know. Both Lydia and Elizabeth, two seventh grade students, had it on their hearts to do something about the inhumane disasters currently happening in Syria. Both girls spoke at chapel and announced a middle school competition to see which class could raise the most money to send to Syria via World Vision. The goal was to raise $ and we will soon find out just how much our school is able to bless the children of Syria. On Friday, February 5th the class winners will be announced!! We are very proud of these two young ladies and them following through on what the Lord put on their hearts! Page 5 These two students also went above and beyond with selling cookies for Syrian Refugees! Thank you Ann-Marie and Lydia!

6 Chamber Orchestra Page 6 The Chamber Orchestra went to Garden Court Retirement Community and shared some Christmas music with them. This group has been dedicated to coming before school and it showed during our field trip. We had several compliments from the residence including a pastor from a local church who was visiting who told us that our Christianity shown bright through our music. Wow, way to go Chamber! Gator Hoops! Come on out and watch the Lady Gators in action! Our 7th and 8th grade girls basketball teams are gearing up for their jamboree Wednesday, Feb. 3rd. This is only for middle school and sales will start the week of Spirit Week February 8th. Valentine Grams are.50 and come with a piece of candy and a note! Sales will be before school and during lunch in the Pavilion. Spirit Week 2016 The Middle School kicks off Spirit Week February 8th! Here are the dress themes!! Monday, February 8th Sports Day (pro/college wear, personal sports uniform, etc) Tuesday February 9th Decade Day (wear outfit from your favorite decade) Wednesday February 10th Career Day Thursday, February 11th Character Day (book, movie, TV) Friday, February 12th (half day) Crazy Dress Day (crazy hair, hat, clothes, etc...) Students will be participating in a canned food drive, homeroom door decorating contest, hula hoop contest and other fun activities during lunch time of Spirit Week!
