3 The Cat s Eye November Journalism Under New Leadership by Hannah Brooks A new year has arrived and so has creating the yearbook! The Journalism class is ready to begin planning with Mrs. Kendra Richardson. Mrs. Richardson is the new sponsor of the class. The class has planned many cool ideas for the yearbook, such as having a page for senior autographs and quotes. The class is very excited to be photographing Menifee's students at events such as pep-rallies, ball games, academic meets, and much more. Students chose the beats/topics over what part of the yearbook they want to write about and photograph. The class is working on Pixami.com, which is a website for designing the yearbook. Students can add photos, writings, clipart, and use many different colors and backgrounds. There are layout designs for the class to use so each student knows what everyone else is doing and who's up to date on each beat. Mrs. Kendra Richardson reviews some of the old yearbooks with the students of the journalism class. She hopes of taking some old ideas and incorporating them into the newest yearbook for the year. BETA Helps the Community by Olivia Ballard The MCHS BETA Club is working on three service projects to better the community. The whole month of November Mrs. Valerio will be accepting non-perishable food items to donate to the food drive in order to fill backpacks to give to less fortunate families. They are also working on putting together a care package for Paige Warren and collecting pop tabs to donate to the Ronald McDonald House of the Bluegrass. Prayer Request Locker 5K Run/Walk Raises Awareness and Money for Childhood Cancer by Mara Walker A 5K Color Run/Walk took place at the Menifee County Park on Saturday, November 12 th. It was hosted by the J.J the Jet Plane Foundation in order to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer. This was the first annual J.J the Jet Plane Foundation 5K, and many people turned out for this event, despite it being rather chilly. The Wildcat Medical Club participated with this event with some members throwing color on the runners while others joined the 5K. After everyone completed the race, medals and other awards were given to the top finishers. Sources say the 5K turned out so well they are already planning for next years race! MCHS students who either ran or threw the powder during the Color Run/Walk were Sara Franklin, Mara Walker, Travis Trimble, Katie Moore, Luke Brewer, Maribeth Adams, June Welch, Maranda Williams, Alison Johnson, Emma Hacker, and Dalton Martin. The Prayer Group meets daily at 7:35 a.m. There is a locker available for students to place their prayer requests, located outside of Mr. Perkin s room.
4 The Cat s Eye November 2016 The MCHS Pep Club by Whitney Craft The MCHS Pep Club is spreading school spirit through the youth of our students. The Pep Club has three different groups. The first group of students is responsible for creating posters and hanging them up throughout the school. The social media group posts information on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook about upcoming ballgames, pep rally s, tournaments, etc. The decor group puts up the decorations for each sporting event. All information including game schedules is posted on the board by Mrs. Ingram s office for everyone to see in hopes that more people will support the Wildcats & Ladycats. On Friday, November 11 th, Green & White night was held in the MCHS gym. All of the Boys Wildcat basketball players were split into two teams, one team was white and the other was green. They played a 30-minute game against one another. The student section was full of spirit. We are MENIFEE! Student Council has chosen: Jordan Fugate is November student of the month for his kindness and courteous attitude toward everyone. Congratulations Jordan! Pud (Roy Branham) is employee of the month of November for the long, late hours he spends cleaning our school. Congratulations Pud! A special THANK YOU to Ale8-1 Bottling Company for a special donation to Menifee veterans and guests. FCCLA News by Kirsten Harris This school year FCCLA has attended the KY state fair, officer training, has had a cookout, and a movie/ fun night. FCCLA members are planning on having another fun night soon. Currently they are working on raising money for the St. Jude s hospital, to run St. Jude s for only one day it cost a total of 1.6 million dollars. St. Jude s hospital never denies a childcare or bills a parent. FCCLA is hoping to have a fundraiser the week of Thanksgiving at the school. Also, next semester FCCLA members are planning on collecting pennies for Leukemia to help raise money and find a cure for this awful disease. They will be at home ballgames collecting any donations. 21 st Century Education by Tammy McPherson The newly instated 21 st Century classes have been a big hit among the students and teachers. 21st Century classes are being offered to all MCHS students to prepare them for college and careers. Students are learning important life skills such as managing stress, balancing budgets, problem solving, sewing, and the list goes on. The last Friday of each month new 21 st Century classes are offered. Students may sign up for various classes or choose to attend ESS to complete any make-up assignments. For the October 21 st Century Day, a former MCHS student, Haley Lane, visited to discuss that high school does matter, that getting good grades are important, and that applying for scholarships help pay for college. Lane also gave the Do and Don t list of college life. At the end of the day all students met in the gym for a pep rally. The best Halloween costumes were voted for with students screaming the We are Menifee chant. Jeannie Sizemore won the best costume contest. Sizemore said she had been up until three in the morning doing her make up. The October 21 st Century Day was a success with the classes earning the following points: Seniors 278 points, Juniors 193 points, Sophomores 172 points, Freshmen 210 points. The points will continue to be added throughout the year for various events and activities. Ethan Hurt and Jocelyn Rogers were voted best freshman costume where they dressed as skeletons for Halloween.
