2 Page 2 President s Report - from the AGM This year PHRC ran, as usual, three official competitions. The first of these was our official show in Any feedback on this is of course welcomed. can also compete in straight dressage at this event). march which was very well attended and made quite a good profit. Our show doesn t make as much as After discussions regarding our current polo tops, other types of event, but it also doesn t take anywhere near as much organisation in the lead up or have sourced some new style tops. We hope to committee thought it was time for an update and we as much work on the day. We think the profit:effort have this finalised soon and available for members ratio makes it worthwhile. to purchase. We have also stocked up our uniform cupboard in the clubrooms with the three in one vest/rain jackets as we took advantage of the reduced price these were selling for recently. In June we ran our showjumping day which had even higher entries than we ve had in previous years and again made a very good profit. A couple of weeks ago was our third event, a dressage jackpot. The past couple of years we have run combined training, so this year we decided we d have a change and run dressage instead. We had 135 entries which meant tests began at 8.30 and were scheduled to finish around 4.30 although late running classes meant it was more like 5.30! There was lots of positive feedback from competitors, about the fantastic all weather surfaces all classes were run on, and about how efficiently PHRC events run. We have a great reputation for running well organised events and it s wonderful to hear these comments after all the hard work that goes into holding these competitions. We made a massive profit from the dressage day and that makes it all the more worth it! Thanks yet again to all the members for giving up some of their precious time to help either on the day or in the weeks and months before comps. I know how much work it involves and it really is appreciated. We also ran one unofficial event, a short course horse trials in april which was a fantastic chance for our members who have a go at cross country. This was a low key, relaxed day where members helped and encouraged each other. Some used it as preparation for upcoming official horse trials events, and some used it to test out their cross country skillsmany for the first time ever. We hope to run something similar in the coming year- either a short course, or perhaps a team event (discussions are underway at committee meetings). This year committee would like to run three official events again. A show, showjumping and combined training. The first will be our show, and this year we also plan to have a freshmans showjumping ring on the day as this shouldn t involve too much work and will provide an alternative activity for riders who aren t into showing and those who d like to have a go at a showjumping round without too much pressure. We had planned to alternate running the Combined Training and the Dressage Jackpot each year, so this year would be Combined Training. (Riders LERR committee has been productive this year and together with LPC we achieved quite a bit. Several joint working bees have resulted in the tidying up of cross country tracks, placement of some new log jumps and LPC have done a lot of work clearing up around the car park. We have jointly purchased two patio heaters for use at events, meetings and rallies when the weather is cold, and we have extended the concrete area in front of the clubrooms. After deciding we needed to replace some of the old showjumping equipment we have now finalised quotes etc and are ordering new lighter weight wings to replace the old, very heavy white ones. We will also replace the old poles with new round ones, and we will be organising working bees in the new year to paint these. In December we held a seminar with Tanja Mitton, an equestrian mindset coach. This was something a bit different and was well attended by both our members and members of other local clubs. Tanja ran lessons and also came back early this year for another clinic. We hope to run a few clinics in the coming year, and possibly one in December as a thankyou for members who have helped out at events and working bees. Instructors we are looking into are Amanda Ross, Will Enzinger, and David Middleton. I would like to thank everyone on committee for all the work they have put in during the year. Thanks to Sheree and Bec for their work on the short course horse trials; Tracey for her usual booking of officials for showjumping and instructors for rallies; Sue for organising entries and judges for the dressage day; Pam for TTT coordination; Mike for compiling the newsletter; Sam for doing the sometimes quite difficult job of helper coordination; and as per usual, Debbie for massive amounts of work in many areas! And last but by far not least...thankyou to all the members who make this a great club to be part of! Nicole
