Next up, State travels to Cincinnati, Ohio, to take on 5th-ranked Xavier on Friday. The Lady Bulldogs will face its first ranked opponent in the Musketeers who are 9-0 this season. LADY BULLDOGS BY THE NUMBERS Through its first eight games, Mississippi State continues to lead all Southeastern Conference teams in scoring defense, allowing opponents to score just 51.2 points a game. That mark ranks 25th nationally. The Lady Bulldogs also lead the league in field goal percentage defense as opponents are shooting just 32 percent from the field. That ranks 12th nationally. Offensively, State is scoring 63.9 points a game and is shooting 42.2 percent from the field. MSU has a scoring margin and a +5.1 rebound margin. State is averaging 10.4 assists a game and turning it over 16.4 times a contest. Junior guard Diamber Johnson is pacing the Lady Bulldogs in scoring, averaging 13.6 points a game after a 24-point performance against Utah. Mary Kathryn Govero is scoring 11.4 points a game. Junior Ashley Brown is pacing State in rebounds with 11.8 a game which is fourth-best in the SEC and 14th nationally. Brown is now averaging 10.3 points a game and was just one rebound shy of her third consecutive double-double. A QUICK LOOK AT THE MUSKETEERS Ranked fifth in both major polls, Xavier is off to a 9-0 start this season. The Musketeers are coming off road wins at Cincinnati and at Middle Tennessee. XU has four players averaging double-digit scoring, led by senior Amber Harris who is scoring 19.8 points a game. Senior center Ta Shia Phillips is averaging a double-double with 14.8 points a game and 11.7 rebounds a contest. Katie Rutan is averaging 11.3 points a game while Tyeasha Moss is scoring 10.2 a game. ON DECK FOR THE LADY BULLDOGS Following Friday s game in Cincinnati, Mississippi State returns home for its final non-conference home game of the season when they host Mississippi Valley State on Dec. 20. After a nine-day break, State will then travel to Bethlehem, Pa., to close out its non-conference slate in the Christmas City Classic. State will take on Buffalo on Dec. 29 and either Lehigh or Rider on Dec

The Pontotoc, Miss.,-native is pacing the Lady Bulldog scoring attack, scoring 13.6 points a game. Johnson has hit field goals this season and is shooting 40 percent from the field. Johnson had a career-high 24 points against Utah, 14 points against North Texas, 14 points against Louisiana Tech and 17 points against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. BROWN A DOUBLE THREAT Junior Ashley Brown has been Mississippi State s top rebounder all season. She is pacing State with 10.8 rebounds a game. Lately, Brown has been scoring also. Brown is now averaging 10.3 points a game after a 14-point performance against Southern Miss. Brown added nine rebounds and was just one rebound short of her third consecutive double-double. SHUTTING THEM DOWN Mississippi State continues to lead all SEC teams in scoring defense, allowing just 51.2 points a game. The Lady Bulldogs have held every opponent under 70 points this season and held Arkansas-Pine Bluff to just 31 points on Nov. 28. AGAINST XAVIER Mississippi State and Xavier have met just four times dating back to the first meeting in Xavier leads the series 3-1 and defeated State last season in Cincinnati AGAINST THE ATLANTIC 10 Mississippi State is just 1-5 all time against the Atlantic 10. A FULL SEC SCHEDULE For just the second year, Mississippi State and the rest of the Southeastern Conference teams will play a 16-game conference schedule this season. There is still no divisions but the 16-game schedule will continue this season FANNING-OTIS ADDING TO WIN TOTAL In 34 seasons as a head coach, Sharon Fanning-Otis has amassed 587 career victories. Fanning eclipsed the 500-win mark on Nov. 10, 2006 with a win against Troy. OVER 200 AND COUNTING Now in her 16th season at the helm of the Lady Bulldogs, Fanning has ammassed 260 wins. When Fanning-Otis first came to Mississippi State University, she had a vision of building a quality Lady Bulldog basketball program. Time combined with hard work and dedication has paid off, as the program has reached national prominence since her arrival before the season. In November 2006, Fanning became the 29th NCAA Division I head coach to record 500 wins. During her tenure at MSU, Fanning has tutored two Kodak (now State Farm) all-americans in Tan White ( ) and LaToya Thomas ( ). As a senior, White led the nation in scoring, averaging 23.5 points per game, was named to the Associated Press s All-America Second Team, Frances Pomeroy Naismith recipient, all-sec First Team selection and became the SEC s all-time Career Steals Leader in addition to finishing atop five MSU career categories. She became the second Lady Bulldog to be drafted into the WNBA when she went as the No. 2 pick in the 2005 Draft to the Indiana Fever. She led the program to new heights during the campaign, taking the Lady Bulldogs to the Sweet 16. She had three players drafted in the WNBA Draft including Chanel Mokango, Armelie Lumanu and Alexis Rack. In 106 games, Govero has 878 points for an average of 8.4 points a game. Govero is just 9 points shy of 20th and is just 35 points shy of 19th. GOVERO MOVING UP THREE-POINT LISTS In her four years, Mary Kathryn Govero has found her stroke behind the three-point line. Last season, she hit a career best 74 shots from behind the arc. That mark ranks fifth all-time at Mississippi State. Govero also took the eighth most three-point attempts in school history last season with 306 attempts. The senior has hit shots from three-point range this season. LADY BULLDOGS ADD FIVE IN EARLY SIGNING PERIOD Mississippi State signed five in the early signing period. Khadijah Ellison, Jamica James, Martha Alwal, Kendra Grant and Shamia Robinson will enroll next fall in Starkville. Ellison is the 44th ranked recruit nationally while Robinson and Grant are part of Mississippi s Dandy Dozen by the Jackson Clarion-Ledger. Alwal, a 6-5 post player is out of Worthington, Minn., while James is out of the highly succesful North Little Rock High School. MSU went more than five minutes in the opening half without a point and had an even longer stretch - better than six minutes - without a score in the final half.
