The Lady Bulldogs (8-9, 0-5 SEC) and Georgia will tip at 3 p.m. ET and the game will be televised by Fox Sports Net. Dave Baker and Stephanie Ready will have the call. The game can also be heard on WFCA and Maroon to the Max as the voice of the Lady Bulldogs Bart Gregory has the call. LADY BULLDOGS BY THE NUMBERS Mississippi State continues to be among the SEC leaders in several defensive categories this season. State is allowing opponents to score just 56.5 points a game.the Lady Bulldogs are fourth in the league in field goal percentage defense as opponents are shooting just 35.8 percent from the field. That ranks 41st nationally. Offensively, State is scoring 57.7 points a game and is shooting 37.3 percent from the field. MSU has a +1.2 scoring margin and a +1.4 rebound margin. State is averaging 9.8 assists a game and turning it over 16.8 times a contest. Junior guard Diamber Johnson is pacing the Lady Bulldogs in scoring, averaging 11.4 points a game. Mary Kathryn Govero is scoring 10.7 points a game. Junior Ashley Brown is pacing State in rebounds with 9.6 a game which is third-best in the SEC and 49th nationally. Brown is now averaging 7.0 points a game. A QUICK LOOK AT GEORGIA Georgia (15-3, 5-0 SEC) is on a 6-game winning streak and have won 9 of its last 10. Georgia ranks sixth in the SEC in scoring offense, averaging 62.2 points a game and ranks second in the league in scoring defense, allowing just 56.2 points a game. The Bulldogs rank second in the SEC in blocked shots, second in offensive rebounds and third in 3-point field goals made. Sophomore guard Jasmine James leads UGA in scoring, averaging 12.3 points a game. Senior forward Porsha Phillips is second in scoring averaging 11.3 points a contest. Head coach Andy Landers is in his 31st season at Georgia. ON DECK FOR THE LADY BULLDOGS Following Sunday s game, Mississippi State will travel to Knoxville to take on #5 Tennessee next Thursday, Jan. 27. Mississippi State s only previous 3-game win streak over Georgia came from in the series first three games. MISSISSIPPI STATE SEEKING OFFENSIVE SUCCESS While Mississippi State has played excellent defense this season, the Lady Bulldogs have struggled to score this season. MSU has broken the 70-point barrier just three times this season and have reached 60 points in eight of 17 games. STINGY ON DEFENSE Through 17 games, Mississippi State has allowed just two teams to surpass the 70-point barrier. Eight times this season, State has held its opponent to less than 60 points. BETT BIG DOWN LOW Junior center Catina Bett has been solid in the paint the last two games for the Lady Bulldogs. Bett has scored 12 and 15 respectively against Kentucky and Auburn. A FULL SEC SCHEDULE For just the second year, Mississippi State and the rest of the Southeastern Conference teams will play a 16-game conference schedule this season. Fanning eclipsed the 500-win mark on Nov. 10, 2006 with a win against Troy. OVER 200 AND COUNTING Now in her 16th season at the helm of the Lady Bulldogs, Fanning has ammassed 262 wins. She is the all-time winning coach for women s basketball at Mississippi State. 10-WIN SEASONS UNDER FANNING MSU has had win seasons and reached the postseason 11 times under Sharon Fanning (six NCAA, five WNIT). During nine seasons including this year, Fanning and the Lady Bulldogs have eclipsed the 15-win mark. HEAD COACH SHARON FANNING-OTIS 16TH SEASON AT MISSISSIPPI STATE TH SEASON OVERALL Now in her 16th season at the helm of the Mississippi State women s basketball team, Sharon Fanning-Otis continues to guide the program to new heights. When Fanning-Otis first came to Mississippi State University, she had a vision of building a quality Lady Bulldog basketball program. Time combined with hard work and dedication has paid off, as the program has reached national prominence since her arrival before the season. In November 2006, Fanning became the 29th NCAA Division I head coach to record 500 wins. During her tenure at MSU, Fanning has tutored two Kodak (now State Farm) all-americans in Tan White ( ) and LaToya Thomas ( ). As a senior, White led the nation in scoring, averaging 23.5 points per game, was named to the Associated Press s All-America Second Team, Frances Pomeroy Naismith recipient, all-sec First Team selection and became the SEC s all-time Career Steals Leader in addition to finishing atop five MSU career categories. She became the second Lady Bulldog to be drafted into the WNBA when she went as the No. 2 pick in the 2005 Draft to the Indiana Fever. She led the program to new heights during the campaign, taking the Lady Bulldogs to the Sweet 16. In 115 games, Govero has 973 points for an average of 8.5 points a game. Govero is now just 27 points shy of 1,000 for her career. GOVERO MOVING UP THREE-POINT LISTS In her four years, Mary Kathryn Govero has found her stroke behind the three-point line. Last season, she hit a career best 74 shots from behind the arc. That mark ranks fifth all-time at Mississippi State. Govero also took the eighth most three-point attempts in school history last season with 306 attempts. The senior has hit shots from three-point range this season. LADY BULLDOGS ADD FIVE IN EARLY SIGNING PERIOD Mississippi State signed five in the early signing period. Khadijah Ellison, Jamica James, Martha Alwal, Kendra Grant and Shamia Robinson will enroll next fall in Starkville. Ellison is the 44th ranked recruit nationally while Robinson and Grant are part of Mississippi s Dandy Dozen by the Jackson Clarion-Ledger. Alwal, a 6-5 post player is out of Worthington, Minn., while James is out of the highly succesful North Little Rock High School. MSU went more than five minutes in the opening half without a point and had an even longer stretch - better than six minutes - without a score in the final half. As snow showers fell outside the arena, the Lady Bulldogs had a tough time getting anything to fall inside for the first 20 minutes. Down at halftime, the Lady Bulldogs actually trailed by as many as 17 before mounting one final charge. Arkansas improved to 14-1 overall and 2-1 in league play, while MSU slipped to 8-6 and 0-2. Still, the Lady Bulldogs had their chances. Down with 9:22 left in regulation, the Lady Bulldogs reeled off eight straight points. The Lady Tigers shot 50.9 percent from the floor. It is the first time this season, the Lady Bulldogs allowed better than 50 percent shooting from the floor in a contest. The 72 points scored by the Lady Tigers also marked the most allowed by MSU in a contest this season. LSU only led by six points at halftime. The guests then opened the final half with an 8-1 run and were not threatened the remainder of the contest. It appeared things might end differently when the Maroon and White grabbed a lead with 7:35 remaining on a layup by Ashley Brown. However, the hosts did not score again Catina Bett hit a jumper in the lane with 16 seconds remaining. The contest was a defensive struggle throughout. Still, MSU could not muster enough offense, including a miserable 1-for-13 night from 3-point range. The Lady Bulldogs also turned the ball over 20 times - a third time in league play for 20 or more turnovers by MSU.
