4 SCOUTING MEMPHIS Memphis enters Sunday s game 2-4 on the year. The Lady Tigers opened the season with three consecutive losses before winning their first game of the season over Tennessee State. UM comes into the game with State after defeating Alabama A&M Wednesday night. The Lady Tigers are led by Ashley Thornton who is averaging 15.3 points along with eight rebounds a game. MEMPHIS HEAD COACH BLAIR SAVAGE-LANSDEN Tiger Head Coach Blair Savage-Lansden is in her fourth season as a collegiate head coach. All four years have been with Memphis. This is Savage-Lansden first time to face Mississippi State. THE MEMPHIS SERIES Memphis leads the all-time series with Mississippi State, Complete series results can be found in the Mississippi State Women s Basketball Media Guide on page FANNING: 500 AND COUNTING Mississippi State Head Coach Sharon Fanning reached the 500-win plateau, 31 years into her career, on Nov. 10, 2006, when the Lady Bulldogs defeated Troy. All of Fanning s 523 career wins have come at the Division I level. With a win over Southern Mississippi on Nov. 29, MState Head Coach Sharon Fanning got her 200th win at Mississippi State. AGAINST NON-CONFERENCE TEAMS All-time against non-conference teams, MSU is (.559). During the Sharon Fanning era, the Lady Bulldogs are (.665). AGAINST CONFERENCE USA Mississippi State is all-time against Conference USA. State holds winning records against Central Florida, Houston, Rice and Tulsa. BEST START SINCE Through eight games played, MState is off to its best start since going 7-1 in MSU went 8-1 in its first nine games and finished the season RICHARD HITS 500 POINTS MARK With her nine points against Iowa, Marneshia Richard broke the 500-point mark of her career. Richard and junior guard/forward Robin Porter are the only current Lady Bulldogs to have reached the milestone. Richard has 528 career points, while Porter has 622 to her credit. SOMETHING POSITIVE TO THINK ABOUT With 18 assists to 12 turnovers against Southern Mississippi (1.5 ratio), MSU posted a positive assist/turnover ratio for the third time this season. Previously, State had 22 assists to 18 turnovers (1.2) against Arkanas- Pine Bluff and 16 assists to nine turnovers (1.8) versus Centenary. Collectively on the year, MSU has an assist/ turnover ratio of 0.9. MOVING ON UP Four current Lady Bulldogs are climbing the career leaders list in two all-time categories. Senior Imesia Jackson (492), sophomore Alexis Rack (419) and sophomore Tysheka Grimes (333) are approaching the 500-career points mark, while Richard has 227 career assists, 43 shy of 10th on that list. LIGHTING IT UP Sophomore guard Alexis Rack ended her freshman campaign with 64 three-point field goals made. With her four threepointers made against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, she now ranks 10th on the all-time list for three-pointers made and currently has 82. Of the former Lady Bulldogs on the list, Rack has the most three-pointers made as a freshman (Tan White had the previous-best of 53 three-pointers made). Of those 10, only Cynthia Hall (82 as a junior) and Angela Harris (89 as a senior) have a higher single-season total. RACK S THREE-POINT STREAK Sophomore guard Alexis Rack has made at least one three-point basket in every game dating back to the South Carolina game at home last year (Jan. 21, 2007). TAKING ONE FOR THE TEAM MState had a total of 15 charges taken by five different players this season. Imesia Jackson leads the team with seven. TAKING IT AWAY With her career-high six steals against Southern Mississippi, sophomore guard Alexis Rack tied Tan White for third on the sophomore single game records list for steals. DOUBLE OR NOTHING Three Lady Bulldogs have scored in double-figures in the last two games. Robin Porter (12 vs. Southern Miss and 13 vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff), Imesia Jackson (18 vs. USM and 12 vs. UAPB) and Tysheka Grimes (20 against Southern Miss and 11 vs. UAPB) become the first trio to accomplish that feat this season. Jackson has scored in double figures in four straight games (Southern Mississippi, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Oklahoma and Iowa). JACKSON: BACK-TO-BACK DOUBLE-DOUBLES Imesia Jackson tallied her fourth and fifth career double-doubles against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Oklahoma. Against the Lady Lions, Jackson tallied 12 points and brought down 11 boards. She led the Lady Bulldogs against #10 Oklahoma with a season-high 18 points, shot a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe and brought down 10 boards. GRIMES STEALS AWAY CAREER HIGH With her four steals against Iowa, Tysheka Grimes tied her career high, set two times last season. FIVE PLAYERS TALLY DOUBLE FIGURES For the first time since last season, five Lady Bulldogs scored in double figures in the same game. Alexis Rack led all scorers with 21 points, while Tysheka Grimes, Donnisha Tate and Marneshia Richard added 11 each and Bethany Washington had 10. GRIMES NETS DOUBLE-DOUBLE With her 11 points and 11 boards, sophomore forward Tysheka Grimes tallied her third career double-double on Sunday. She also had a career-high five assists. FRESHMAN GOVERO NETS CAREER FIRST Freshman Mary Kathryn Govero tallied her first career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in 18 minutes played against Belmont. She becomes the first non-starter since Miayorka Johnson (12 points, 11 rebounds vs. Mississippi Valley, 11/26/06) to net a double-double, becoming the first freshman nonstarter to accomplish the feat. JACKSON HITS THE BOARDS FOR CAREER HIGH Senior forward Imesia Jackson brought down a gamehigh 13 rebounds against Belmont to set a new career high in the category. Jackson s 13 boards are the most for a Lady Bulldog this season and the most since Robin Porter had 16 against Tulane last season. WASHINGTON STEALS AWAY CAREER HIGH With her five steals on against Southeastern Louisiana, sophomore Bethany Washington set a career high in the category. JACKSON EARNS PRESEASON NOD MSU senior forward Imesia Jackson was selected to the Southeastern Conference Preseason Coaches All-SEC Second Team. The Lady Bulldogs were voted to finish seventh among league teams in the coaches and media voting. 10-WIN SEASONS UNDER FANNING MSU has had win seasons and reached the postseason eight times under Sharon Fanning (four NCAA, four WNIT) (4-7 SEC, T8th) (1-11 SEC, T10th) (4-10 SEC, T9th) (7-7 SEC, T5th) (8-6 SEC, 5th) (4-10 SEC, T9th) (8-6 SEC, T4th) (10-4 SEC, T3rd) (7-7, T7th) (6-8 SEC, 6th) FSN, CSS TO BROADCAST GAMES The Lady Bulldogs will play a total of four televised contests this season. State closes out the regular season hosting LSU in a Fox nationally televised game on March 2. STATE ADDS THREE FOR SEASON Mississippi State University Head Women s Basketball Coach Sharon Fanning has announced the signings of Chanel Mokango, Armelie Lumanu and Rima Kalonda, all of Kinshasa, Congo, Africa, to national letters-of-intent. The trio will begin competing for the Lady Bulldogs beginning with the season. We re very excited about this year s recruiting class, said Fanning. They have experience, size, quickness, strength, versatility and they have been very successful. They are very competitive and should provide an immediate impact for our basketball team. These young ladies expect to win and we look forward to seeing them in maroon and white. All three players are currently at Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg, Ill and members of the Congo National Team. The SIC squad is ranked sixth in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association Division I poll. The trio helped lead the Falcons to a conference and regional championship last season, as well as a fourth-place finish in the NJCAA national tournament. A NJCAA Second Team All-American, Mokango was also named NJCAA Region XXIV Freshman of the Year a season ago and the Region XXIV Tournament Most Valuable Player. The high school all-state and all-grac selection at SIC was also named to the NJCAA National Tournament s all-tournament team. The 6-5 guard/forward was the leading rebounder on the SIC team last season, bringing down 11.1 boards each time out. She was the team s second-leading scorer with 14.4 points per game and shot 56.5 percent from the floor. In eight games played this season, Mokango leads the Falcons in scoring and rebounds with 16.4 points and 7.8 rebounds each time out. Chanel is a very versatile athlete who can play the two through five positions, Fanning noted. She can face up, run the floor well, post hard and will alter shots on the defensive end. Lumanu, a 5-9 guard/forward, was named to her
