Thursday s game will be televised on Fox Sports South and can be heard on WFCA and Maroon To The Max. Thursday s winner will advance to face 3-seed Vanderbilt on Friday at 9 p.m. LADY BULLDOGS BY THE NUMBERS Mississippi State has relied heavily on its defense this season as the Lady Bulldogs are fifth in the league in field goal percentage defense as opponents are shooting just 37.7 percent from the field. Offensively, State is shooting 37.6 percent from the field. Senior Mary Kathryn Govero is leading the scoring charge, averaging 12.8 points a game. Junior Diamber Johnson is scoring 12.5 points a contest. Junior Ashley Brown is pacing State in rebounds with 8.3 a game which is fifth-best in the SEC. Brown is now averaging 6.2 points a game. Junior Porsha Porter is adding 10.1 points a game. A QUICK LOOK AT AUBURN Auburn enters Thursday s game with a overall record, 8-8 in league play. The Tigers are coming off a home loss to Kentucky and are 2-3 in their last five games. Auburn is led in scoring by senior guard Alli Smalley who is 18th in the SEC in scoring, averaging 12.1 points a game. Sophomore Blanch Alverson is averaging 10.9 points a contest. Head coach Nell Fortner is in her seventh season with Auburn. 1

The Lady Bulldogs won back-to-back games on the road at Auburn and at Ole Miss before winning consecutive games at Alabama and at home on senior day over Ole Miss. STATE ENDS REGULAR SEASON ON A HIGH NOTE Mississippi State ended the regular season with a victory over Ole Miss on senior day in Starkville, closing out a season sweep of the Rebels. The Lady Bulldogs shot 40 percent for the game and had 18 assists to just 10 turnovers. Mary Kathryn Govero led the way with 18 points while Diamber Johnson had her firstcareer double-double with 16 points and 10 assists. AT THE SEC TOURNAMENT In 31 years at the SEC Tournament, Mississippi State has an all-time record of Mississippi State s best finish was in 2000 when they reached the finals in Chattanooga, Tenn. Last season, Mississippi State reached the semifinals as the #3 seed, defeating Georgia before falling to Kentucky. State has reached the semifinals three times. GOVERO GARNERING POSTSEASON AWARDS Mississippi State senior Mary Kathryn Govero was one of just five women s basketball players to be named to the District 6 Capital One Academic All-District First Team announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday. Govero has also been named the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the All-SEC Second Team. THE SERIES Mississippi State and Auburn will meet for the third time this season when they meet Thursday night in Nashville. Auburn won the first meeting on Jan. 20 while State defeated Auburn on Feb. 6. In the series, Auburn holds a advantage while each team has won a game on a nuetral court. LAST TIME - MISSISSIPPI STATE VS. AUBURN In the last meeting in Auburn, Ala., Mississippi State won a decision over the Tigers. The Lady Bulldogs, who led by one at the half, shot 38 percent from the field while holding AU to just 33 percent shooting. A FULL SEC SCHEDULE For just the second year, Mississippi State and the rest of the Southeastern Conference teams will play a 16-game conference schedule this season. There is still no divisions but the 16-game schedule will continue this season FANNING-OTIS ADDING TO WIN TOTAL In 34 seasons as a head coach, Sharon Fanning-Otis has amassed 593 career victories. Fanning eclipsed the 500-win mark on Nov. 10, 2006 with a win against Troy. OVER 200 AND COUNTING Now in her 16th season at the helm of the Lady Bulldogs, Fanning has ammassed 265 wins. She is the all-time winning coach for women s basketball at Mississippi State. 10-WIN SEASONS UNDER FANNING MSU has had win seasons and reached the postseason 11 times under Sharon Fanning (six NCAA, five WNIT). During nine seasons including this year, Fanning and the Lady Bulldogs have eclipsed the 15-win mark. HEAD COACH SHARON FANNING-OTIS 16TH SEASON AT MISSISSIPPI STATE TH SEASON OVERALL Now in her 16th season at the helm of the Mississippi State women s basketball team, Sharon Fanning-Otis continues to guide the program to new heights. When Fanning-Otis first came to Mississippi State University, she had a vision of building a quality Lady Bulldog basketball program. Time combined with hard work and dedication has paid off, as the program has reached national prominence since her arrival before the season. In November 2006, Fanning became the 29th NCAA Division I head coach to record 500 wins. During her tenure at MSU, Fanning has tutored two Kodak (now State Farm) all-americans in Tan White ( ) and LaToya Thomas ( ). As a senior, White led the nation in scoring, averaging 23.5 points per game, was named to the Associated Press s All-America Second Team, Frances Pomeroy Naismith recipient, all-sec First Team selection and became the SEC s all-time Career Steals Leader in addition to finishing atop five MSU career categories. She became the second Lady Bulldog to be drafted into the WNBA when she went as the No. 2 pick in the 2005 Draft to the Indiana Fever. She led the program to new heights during the campaign, taking the Lady Bulldogs to the Sweet 16. In 126 games, Govero has 1,150 points for an average of 9.1 points a game. Govero scored her 1,000th point at Tennessee on January 27. She is just 13 points shy of 12th now on the all-time scoring list. GOVERO MOVING UP THREE-POINT LISTS In her four years, Mary Kathryn Govero has found her stroke behind the three-point line. Last season, she hit a career best 74 shots from behind the arc. That mark ranks fifth all-time at Mississippi State. Govero also took the eighth most three-point attempts in school history last season with 306 attempts. The senior has hit shots from 3-point range this season. LADY BULLDOGS ADD FIVE IN EARLY SIGNING PERIOD Mississippi State signed five in the early signing period. Khadijah Ellison, Jamica James, Martha Alwal, Kendra Grant and Shamia Robinson will enroll next fall in Starkville. The Lady Bulldogs finally broke into the Southeastern Conference victory column with a hard-earned victory over Auburn Sunday afternoon in the new AU Arena. After dropping a pair of hard-fought games at home last week, MSU shook those woes, while snapping a 10-game losing streak. The Maroon and White won for only the fourth time ever on the Plains. However, coupled with last season s victory, the Lady Bulldogs have now won back-to-back trips to Auburn. The Lady Bulldogs were tremendous on the defensive end. In the second half, Auburn was held to 17 points. It marked the second time this season the MSU defense has held a conference opponent to 17 or fewer points in a half. Ironically, the other time was when Auburn scored 16 first-half points in a victory last month in Starkville. In the rematch, MSU found the answer on the offensive end. The Lady Bulldogs out-rebounded Auburn. MSU also hit 8-of-15 shots from 3-point range, including a 5-of-6 night from Porsha Porter beyond the arc. Both teams had strong offensive halves in a competitive first half. The Lady Bulldogs eased out to an early 11-6 advantage. Auburn scored the game s next eight points to take a advantage.
