4 SCOUTING MCNEESE STATE McNeese State is 2-10 on the year with wins over Centenary (81-79 OT) and Texas Southern (61-50). Courtnee Hollins leads the Cowgirls in scoring with 11.4 points per game. Brittany Boone leads the team in rebounding with 6.1 boards each time out. Mc- Neese State Head Coach Brooks Donald Williams is no stranger to MSU. Williams is a 2000 graduate of the University. THE MCNEESE STATE SERIES Mississippi State leads the all-time series with Mc- Neese State, 2-0. FANNING: 500 AND COUNTING Mississippi State Head Coach Sharon Fanning reached the 500-win plateau, 31 years into her career, on Nov. 10, 2006, when the Lady Bulldogs defeated Troy. All of Fanning s 525 career wins have come at the Division I level. With a win over Southern Mississippi on Nov. 29, MState Head Coach Sharon Fanning got her 200th win at Mississippi State. AGAINST NON-CONFERENCE TEAMS All-time against non-conference teams, MSU is (.559). During the Sharon Fanning era, the Lady Bulldogs are (.665). AGAINST THE SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE Mississippi State is 13-6 all-time against the Southland Conference. State holds winning records against Birmingham-Southern (2-0), Lamar (1-0), McNeese State (2-0), Nicholls State (1-0), Northwestern State (1-0), Southeastern Louisiana (6-3) and Texas State (1-0). COMMON DOMINATORS Mississippi State and McNeese State have four common opponents this season. MSU defeated Southern Mississippi (77-56) on Nov. 29, while McNeese State fell to the Golden Eagles (52-94) on Nov. 13. Both teams defeated Centenary (MSU, and McNeese State, 81-79). MState has already defeated Louisiana Tech (63-50) and Southeastern Louisiana (71-55). Mc- Neese State faces those two programs on Dec. 31 and Feb. 7, respectively. RICHARD, JACKSON HIT 500 POINT MARK With her nine points against Iowa, Marneshia Richard broke the 500-point mark of her career. Imesia Jackson tallied her 500th career point on Dec. 2, 2007 against Memphis. Richard, Jackson and junior guard/ forward Robin Porter are the only current Lady Bulldogs to have reached the milestone. Richard has 551 career points and Jackson has 519 points, while Porter has 645 to her credit. SOMETHING POSITIVE TO THINK ABOUT With 23 assists to 16 turnovers against Memphis (1.4 ratio), MSU posted a positive assist/turnover ratio for the fourth time this season. Previously, State had 18 assists to 12 turnovers (1.5) against Southern Miss 22 assists to 18 turnovers (1.2) against Arkanas-Pine Bluff and 16 assists to nine turnovers (1.8) versus Centenary. Collectively on the year, MSU has an assist/turnover ratio of 1.0. MOVING ON UP Three current Lady Bulldogs are climbing the career leaders list in two all-time categories. Sophomore Alexis Rack (465) and sophomore Tysheka Grimes (377) are approaching the 500-career points mark, while Richard has 242 career assists, 28 shy of 10th on that list. TAKING ONE FOR THE TEAM MState had a total of 21 charges taken by six different players this season. Imesia Jackson leads the team with WIN SEASONS UNDER FANNING MSU has had win seasons and reached the postseason eight times under Sharon Fanning (four NCAA, four WNIT) (4-7 SEC, T8th) (1-11 SEC, T10th) (4-10 SEC, T9th) (7-7 SEC, T5th) (8-6 SEC, 5th) (4-10 SEC, T9th) (8-6 SEC, T4th) (10-4 SEC, T3rd) (7-7, T7th) (6-8 SEC, 6th) FSN, CSS TO BROADCAST GAMES The Lady Bulldogs will play a total of four televised contests this season. State host Tennessee in a CSS telecast on Feb. 7 and Florida the following Sunday, Feb. 10 on Fox Sports South. The Lady Vols and MState are again on television on Feb. 24 in Knoxville. State closes out the regular season hosting LSU in a Fox nationally televised game on March 2. STATE ADDS THREE FOR SEASON Mississippi State University Head Women s Basketball Coach Sharon Fanning has Lumanu Kalonda Mokango announced the signings of Chanel Mokango, Armelie Lumanu and Rima Kalonda, all of Kinshasa, Congo, Africa, to national letters-of-intent. The trio will begin competing for the Lady Bulldogs beginning with the season. All three players are currently at Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg, Ill and members of the Congo National Team. The SIC squad is ranked sixth in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association Division I poll. The trio helped lead the Falcons to a conference and regional championship last season, as well as a fourth-place finish in the NJCAA national tournament. A NJCAA Second Team All-American, Mokango was also named NJCAA Region XXIV Freshman of the Year a season ago and the Region XXIV Tournament Most Valuable Player. The high school all-state and all-grac selection at SIC was also named to the NJCAA National Tournament s all-tournament team. The 6-5 guard/forward was the leading rebounder on the SIC team last season, bringing down 11.1 boards each time out. She was the team s second-leading scorer with 14.4 points per game and shot 56.5 percent from the floor. In eight games played this season, Mokango leads the Falcons in scoring and rebounds with 16.4 points and 7.8 rebounds each time out. Lumanu, a 5-9 guard/forward, was named to her high school s all-state squad in the Congo. Since being at SIC, she has been named all-grac and all-region XXIV. Last season, she averaged 12.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per contest. She also led the team in steals, taking away the ball 6.1 times each game. Already this season, Lumanu is tallying 16 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Kalonda, a 6-3 forward/center, averaged 8.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game last year. Through eight games this season, Kalonda is averaging 12.8 points per game and bringing down 7.5 boards. INDIVIDUAL PLAYER NOTES ALEXIS RACK Sophomore Guard Franklin, La. Moving up the career three-pointers made list Alexis Rack ended her freshman campaign with 64 three-point field goals made. With her 29 three-pointers made on the year, she now ranks ninth on the all-time list for three-pointers made with 95. Of the former Lady Bulldogs on the single season list, Rack has the most three-pointers made as a freshman (Tan White had the previous-best of 53 three-pointers made). Of those 10, only Cynthia Hall (82 as a junior) and Angela Harris (89 as a senior) have a higher single-season total. Three-point streak at 26 games Rack has made at least one three-point basket in every game dating back to the South Carolina game at home last year (Jan. 21, games). Her current streak is the longest by a Lady Bulldog since the three-point line was introduced in Tan White has the next longest consecutive games with a three-point shot made. White drained a three in 20 straight games from Nov. 27, 2001 to Feb. 14, Taking it away With her career-high six steals against Southern Mississippi, sophomore guard Alexis Rack tied Tan White for third on the sophomore single game records list for steals. TYSHEKA GRIMES Sophomore Forward Baton Rouge, La. Stepping up against Georgia Tech Grimes had a season-high 21 points and hit a careerhigh four three-pointers to lead MState in scoring against Georgia Tech. It marked the second consecutive game Grimes led the team in scoring (14 vs. Louisiana Tech). She now leads the team in points per game, netting 12.5 each time out. Career-high against Iowa With her four steals against Iowa, Tysheka Grimes tied her career high, set two times last season. First double-double this year With her 11 points and 11 boards, sophomore forward Tysheka Grimes tallied her third career double-double against Mercer. She also had a career-high five assists. MARNESHIA RICHARD Junior Guard Lamar, Miss. Dishing it out to set records With eight assists against Georgia Tech, Richard tied Angela Harris (vs. Arkansas, 2/24/99 and vs. Vanderbilt (12/8/98) for fourth on the junior class single game list.

She led the Lady Bulldogs against #10 Oklahoma with a season-high 18 points, shot a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe and brought down 10 boards. Hits the boards for a career-high Senior forward Imesia Jackson brought down a gamehigh 13 rebounds against Belmont to set a new career high in the category. Jackson s 13 boards are the most for a Lady Bulldog this season and the most since Robin Porter had 16 against Tulane last season. Earns preseason honor MSU senior forward Imesia Jackson was selected to the Southeastern Conference Preseason Coaches All-SEC Second Team. The Lady Bulldogs were voted to finish seventh among league teams in the coaches and media voting. MARY KATHRYN GOVERO Freshman Forward Clinton, Miss. Gets first double-double Freshman Mary Kathryn Govero tallied her first career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in 18 minutes played against Belmont. She becomes the first freshman non-starter to accomplish the feat.

When Fanning first came to Mississippi State University, she had a vision of building a quality Lady Bulldog basketball program. Time combined with hard work and dedication has paid off, as the program has reached national prominence since her arrival before the season. In November 2006, Fanning became the 29th NCAA Division I head coach to record 500 wins. During her tenure at MSU, Fanning has tutored two Kodak (now State Farm) all-americans in Tan White ( ) and LaToya Thomas ( ). As a senior, White led the nation in scoring, averaging 23.5 points per game, was named to the Associated Press s All-America Second Team, Frances Pomeroy Naismith recipient, all-sec First Team selection and became the SEC s all-time Career Steals Leader in addition to finishing atop five MSU career categories. She became the second Lady Bulldog to be drafted into the WNBA when she went as the No. 2 pick in the 2005 Draft to the Indiana Fever. STARKVILLE, Miss. - The 34th season of Mississippi State women s basketball got off to a good start Friday night as the Lady Bulldogs beat Southeastern Louisiana to tip off the campaign. With the win MState improves to 32-2 in home openers and remains undefeated (13-0) in the Sharon Fanning era. The Lady Bulldogs overcame shooting woes in the first half to lead the Lady Lions at the half. MSU shot only 32 percent from the field and missed all nine of their attempts from three point range in the opening half. Marneshia Richard led the team with eight points at the break while Imesia Jackson had six. The Lady Bulldog defense was the story in first 20 minutes of play, forcing 18 turnovers, seven of which were steals. Mississippi State was able to score 13 points of Lady Lion miscues in the first half. In the second half, the MSU offense began to match the success of its defense. The Lady Bulldogs shot 50 percent from field and also ended their drought from behind the arc with two, three point buckets. Not to be unmatched, MSU defense continued to apply pressure to Southeastern Louisiana with seven more steals in the half. Bethany Washington led the team with 5, while five other Lady Bulldogs recorded at least one steal. Mississippi State was also able to control the boards as they outrebounded the Lady Lions 42-33, Imesia Jackson led all players with eight. In the first half, State would race out to an early lead thanks in large part to Centenary miscues. The Bulldogs scored 13 points off of 18 Ladies turnovers, which included 12 steals by the MState defense. Although Centenary shot nearly 57 percent from the field, State would lead at the half. In the first half of action, the Lady Bulldogs traded baskets with the Lady Bruins before putting together a 10-0 run spanning more than five minutes long to go up by 10 at the 10:01 mark. Belmont pieced together a short 6-2 run of their own, chipping away at MState s lead to bring the score to Back-to-back three pointers a field goal by Belmont s Shaunda Strayhorn would bring the Lady Bruins as close as four points, but that was as close as they would get in the half. A fast-paced first half featured four ties and saw Iowa jump out on top 3-1 early in the period. They extended that lead out to five before MState got a three-point basket from sophomore Alexis Rack to tie the game at 10 with 13:49 left in the period. After trading baskets and the game s fourth tie, Iowa turned out a 5-0 run to jump out by five with less than 10 minutes remaining. STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Mississippi State women s basketball team got back to its winning ways on Tuesday evening as the Lady Bulldogs (5-2) defeated the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions (1-3), 85,56, at Humphrey Coliseum. In the first half, both teams went back and forth over the first ten minutes of the period. Leading by a score of with just under 12 minutes to play in the half, the Lady Bulldogs distanced themselves from the Lady Lions. State outscored Arkansas Pine-Bluff over the final 10 minutes of the opening period, giving MSU a lead at the intermission. The Lady Bulldogs picked up where they left off during the second period. MState built on their halftime lead, using defense and stellar shooting to race past the Lady Lions. MSU shot 57 percent from behind the arc, while holding the Lady Lions to just 36 percent shooting from the field in the second half. The Lady Bulldogs had five players in double-figures for the game. Senior forward Imesia Jackson tallied her second consecutive double-double, the fifth of her career with 12 points and 11 boards. Junior guard/forward Robin Porter led MState in scoring with 13 points, while sophomore forward Tysheka Grimes had 11. Freshman forward Mary Kathryn Govero tallied 10 for the Lady Bulldogs. Sophomore guard Alexis Rack ended the game with 12, shooting 4-of-5 from behind the arc. With her four three-point field goals made, she now has 81 total career three-point field goals made, good enough for 10th on the all-time list. Arica Green led the Lady Lions with a game-high 14 points, including a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. With the win, Mississippi State Head Coach Sharon Fanning picked up her 200th victory at MSU. In the first half, USM came out to take the lead early at 3-2 with more than 18 minutes to play in the period, marking the only time the Lady Bulldogs would trail in the first half. State played aggressive in the period, hitting 11-of-18 from the free-throw line. MSU also scored 15 points off of Golden Eagle turnovers, taking a lead at the intermission. Sophomore forward Tysheka Grimes led State in scoring in the first half, recording eight points. Sophomore guard Alexis rack added five assists for the Lady Bulldogs in the period. Junior forward Pauline Love was the leading scorer for Southern Mississippi at the break with seven points for the Golden Eagles. State s impressive performance from the first half carried over into the second period. The closest Southern Mississippi would get to the Lady Bulldogs was 13 with more than 10 minutes to play in the game. The Lady Bulldogs once again played aggressive inside, making it to the free-throw line 21 times in the period. Mississippi State had three players in double figures for the game. Sophomore forward Tysheka Grimes scored a season-high 20 points along with eight rebounds. Senior forward Imesia Jackson turned in another strong performance with 18 points, while making it to the free-throw line a career-high 13 times. For the second consecutive game, junior guard/forward Robin Porter scored in double figures with 12 points against the Golden Eagles. Entering Thursday night s game, the Golden Eagles averaged 19.3 turnovers per contest, posting a positive assist/turnover ratio of 1.2. Mississippi State forced USM into 30 turnovers on the evening, scoring 31 points off those miscues. Southern Miss only had eight assists on the evening. MState committed just 12 turnovers with 18 assists for a positive assist/turnover ratio for the third time this season and second straight game. Mississippi State parlayed its best offensive half of the season into a victory over homestanding Memphis in women s basketball action Sunday afternoon at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. The Lady Bulldogs scored a season-best 53 first-half points and did not trail in the final 32 minutes of the contest. The 92-point total was the highest output of the season offensively for MSU. MSU (7-2) ran its modest win streak to three games. The Lady Bulldogs won on the road for a second time this season and also beat a Conference USA foe for the second time in four days. MState has now won three straight against Memphis in women s basketball play. Rack paced the MSU offensive attack with 20 points, one point shy of a season high. Jackson added 17 points, while Marneshia Richards was also in double figures with 10 points. Tysheka Grimes had nine points and a team-high nine rebounds. For the contest, MSU shot 44.6 percent from the floor, hitting on 37-of-83 attempts. MSU was 7-of-22 from three-point range, including four three-pointers by Rack. MSU was 11-of-18 from the foul line. The Lady Bulldogs had 23 assists and committed 16 turnovers. Mississippi State notched a road victory over Louisiana Tech Thursday night in women s basketball action, as the Lady Bulldogs (8-2) won their fourth consecutive game. MState jumped out to a 6-0 run to open the game and never relinquished their lead. State took a lead into the lockerroom. MSU held the Lady Techsters to only 26 percent on 16-for-62 shooting from the field, while connecting on 42 percent (23-55) of their field goal attempts. The Lady Bulldogs won the war on the boards, outrebounding Louisiana Tech, In a sloppy game that saw both teams combining for 37 first-half turnovers, State scored 20 points off Lady Techster miscues. The Lady Bulldogs shot 76.5 percent from the charity stripe, connecting on 13 of 17 trips. The MState scoring effort was charged by sophomore Tysheka Grimes 14-point effort, including going 4-for-5 from the free throw line. With the win, the Yellow Jackets (8-1) gave MState their first home loss of the season and snapped the Lady Bulldogs four-game win streak. In the first half of play, the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead on a 12-4 run to take a 15-6 advantage. The Lady Yellow Jackets answered with a 12-4 run of their own to cut MSU s lead to a single point at With 4:13 left in the period, Tech s Bridgitte Ardossi drained a jumper to give them their first lead of since the opening minute. MState fought back to tie the game and then take a lead into the half on back-to-back three-pointers by sophomores Alexis Rack and Tysheka Grimes. Both teams came out of the half trading baskets with Georgia Tech going on a 6-2 run to tie the game 31 on a 3-point play by Iasia Hemingway with 17:02 left in regulation. State continued to fight by banking four more straight shots, but the Yellow Jackets put together another run with 13:35 left in play. MState tied the game one more time and cut it to single digits at with 1:55. However, the late comeback wasn t enough as the Yellow Jackets took the win.
