1 NORTHCOAST SPORTS POWER PLAYS $ Northcoast Sports Service VOLUME 28 ISSUE 7 October 14-18, 2010 PP COLLEGE 4.5! s SWEEP LW! 4.5! s MOVE TO L/2Y!! NEWS AND NOTES - WEEK SEVEN, NEWS AND NOTES: Troy took command of the SBC with their dominating win on the road at Middle Tennessee. Much was expected from MTSt this year after LY s 10-3 record incl a bowl win over SM but QB Dasher missed the fi rst 4 (susp). While he returned to the lineup, he injured his fi nger on the 2nd series of the game and looked tentative running the football with just 27 yards rushing on 14 carries. MTSt had just 207 yards while Troy s offense dominated with 238 yards rushing and 281 passing...husker QB Taylor Martinez sparkled in front of a national audience on the Thursday Night game. While Nebraska only had a FD edge, they had a yd edge as big plays were the key. Martinez set an NU record for rushing yards by a QB with 242 and he accounted for 4 TD s. A couple of key plays helped the rout. Leading 7-3 NU was sk d on 3&6 for a 7 yd loss. Offsides gave them a 3&1 and 4pl later Martinez got a 35 yd TD run. NU took over with 2:07 left in the half and were pinned at their own 17. Martinez raced 54 yds which set up a 39 yd FG with just :14 left 1H. Martinez got a 41 yd TD run for the 45-6 lead and that would be his last play of the game...oregon St QB Ryan Katz has taken on a hellacious slate of D s. Heading into last weekend, the top 3 D s statistically in the NCAA were TCU, Boise St and Arizona and Katz will have taken on all 3 in his fi rst 5 games...rutgers had FD and yd edges vs Connecticut...Oklahoma St trailed Louisiana at the half and had a couple of big plays at the end of the game to cover. They did score TD s on their fi rst 3 drives of the 3Q but only led when UL was SOD at the OSU40 with 12:33 left. OSU got 52 and 47 yd FG s. They recovered a fumble at the UL15 and got a TD 3pl later to get ahead of the spread, Northern Illinois had 209 yds rushing and 211 yds passing vs 272 total yards for Temple. Temple missed a 42 yd FG in the 3Q and NI went 75/10pl for a TD and the lead, Mid-4Q NI went 90/11pl for a TD, TU was SOD at the NI7 (1:38) and SOD at the NI16 with 1:00 left...the surprising number for the Minnesota/Wisconsin game was the halftime stats as UM had a yd edge and trailed only UW scored TD s on their fi rst four 2H poss, the last put them ahead ATS They surprisingly went for 2 after their last TD and it failed. UM got a 33 yd screen pass to the 29 and then on 4&11 a 29 yd TD pass with 5:01 left gave them the backdoor cover...georgia was probably the best 1-4 team in the country as they were without AJ Green for 3 losses and had some tough close defeats. UGA took it out on Tennessee. The Bulldogs led 27-7 at the half. UGA scored on their fi rst 2 poss of the 3Q to lead with 3:12 left and UT had 1 more drive with backup QB Bray guiding them 77/12pl but they were SOD on 4&gl at the 3...USF had won 5 straight vs Syracuse winning by a combined USF got a 94 yd KR TD to lead 9-6 but missed the xp. USF s last gasp ended on a 4&5 at their own 40 with 1:30 left...indiana came in avg 455 ypg on offense but was held to just 210 with most of it late. Pryor had a career best 334 yds passing and 3 TD s but after the week prior s quad injury, never left the pocket being sk d 3x for -19 rush yds. OSU led 31-0 at the half with a yd edge and Pryor left for good with 11:05 left 3Q...Western Michigan jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead as Ball St fumbled the opening KO at their 23, then gave up a 24 yd IR TD in the fi rst 1:00. Both offenses did move the ball with WM fi nishing with a yd edge in their win...illinois played one of their best games yet under Ron Zook. They went into Penn St and while they trailed 3-0 early, they pretty much dominated the game with 23-7 FD and yd edges. UI even fumbled 2 punts deep in its own territory but PSU had to settle for FG s on each...tyrod Taylor broke Bryan Randall s VT record with his 27th win as a starting QB. Central Michigan actually opened the game with an 80/13pl drive for a TD but Virg Tech stormed back to 38-7 and leads. The stats show CM having FD and yd edges...tom O Brien got his fi rst win vs his former team, Boston College, and did so in convincing fashion with a win. NCSt had FD and yd edges...charlie Strong was an SEC DC and brought some defense to Louisville as they pulled the shutout, the Cardinals fi rst in 4 years. Memphis closest scoring opp came in the 2Q when they went 55/7pl but missed a 42 yd FG on 4&8. UL led 35-0 at half and scored on their opening 2 drives of the 3Q for a 49-0 lead en route to their 56-0 win. UL had a yd edge...texas Tech has now beaten Baylor 15 consecutive years and had FD and yd edges...tcu got their 2nd straight shutout for the fi rst time since Wyoming was playing without QB Austyn Carta-Samuels and Dax Crum hit just TCU led 31-0 at the half with a yd edge and scored TD s on their fi rst two 3Q poss to lead 45-0 and punted for the fi rst time with 10:25 left in the game...west Virginia had their most points since scoring 66 vs Connecticut in It was a rare trip east for UNLV, who was off rival Nevada, but WV didn t commit a TO for the fi rst time in 8 games. Despite the fact WV only had a FD edge, they scored TD s on their fi rst 2 poss and another on their 3rd on a 30 yd drive after a fumble to lead 21-0 and it was 35-0 at the half with a yd edge...cal dominated UCLA, in fact in the 1H they led 28-0 and had a yd edge. Cal had a FD edge for the game...georgia Tech had 477 yards rushing, the 5th best total in school history. GT trailed 7-6 late 2Q when they got a TD to take a 13-7 lead but GT did have a yd edge. GT fumbled to open the 3Q and the next 3 poss were TD s and GT led UVA was SOD at the GT3 and GT went 97/11pl for a TD with 4:49 left. UVA trailing started at their 2 with 2:23 left and went 98/9pl for a TD...Louisiana Tech has been playing musical QB s but may have fi nally found one and amazingly it was the same QB who had been their starter last year in Ross Jenkins. Once Jenkins took over last week vs Hawaii, the offense responded with nothing but long drives. Against Utah St, LT had yd edge at the half and led 17-3 and ended the game with FD and yd edges...arkansas did have a yd edge and never trailed vs A&M...Still playing without a host of susp d players, NC s converted on 4&2 for a FD to the CU21 on their 1st drive and went 48/12pl for a TD and had a 7-0 lead with 6:45 left 1Q and never trailed...miami, Fl took its opening drive 11pl but missed a 32 yd FG. FSU led 24-7 at half but UM had a yd edge. UM in fact fi nished with a FD edge in the game. FSU fi nished with the yardage edge when they got an int with 5:59 left and Thompson got a 90 yd TD run with 4:24 left, a big part of their 298 yards rushing...tulsa had a 45 yd FG blk d in the 1Q and in the 2Q, on 4&1 from the SMU22 were SOD. TU settled for a 30 yd FG in the 3Q and then had a 48 yd FG blk d again, this time with 12:19 left. TU got a TD with 6:45 left to make it and SMU took over at their own 9 and went on a 12pl drive incl 4 FD s to the TU40 and ran out the clock...missouri s 26-0 win over Colorado was not as impressive as the score with CU being stopped 3x inside the MU22 and missing 2 FG s. MU had just a yd edge and each team had 18 FD s...there was nothing fl uky about SC s upset of #1 Alabama as SC scored TD s on their fi rst 3 poss to lead 21-3 and Bama got a TD with :38 left in the half to pull within The momentum appeared to shift a couple of times as Bama pulled within but SC converted on 3&10 and went 82/15pl for a TD to lead Four plays later Bama got a 51 yd TD then 3pl later they int d a pass which bounced out of the rec s hands. They appeared poised to tie the game but they settled for a FG and faked it and it fell incomplete. SC then went 74/10pl, with the key a gutsy 4&1 conversion at their own 34 yd line. The TD made it and Bama didn t threaten after that. Stephen Garcia played the game of his career hitting yds with the only int coming on a bobbled pass...three years ago Mike Hart made his infamous Little Brother comment about Michigan St and Michigan is 0-3 vs the Spartans since. MSU got their most lopsided win in the series since beating the Wolves 34-0 in 1967 and Denard Robinson who was the current fl avor-of-themonth for the Heisman Trophy, had an off game with 3 crucial int include 2 inside the 5 (1 in EZ) which changed the momentum of the game...it had to be a frustrating loss for Southern Miss HC Fedora. SM led 20-0 and were in complete control. EC did not get a FD until the fi rst play of the 2Q and after converting on 3&7, got a 46 yd TD on the next play. SM punted for the fi rst time with 11:33 left in the 2Q. EC went 32 yds for a TD with 4:36 left to give them the lead, SM got to midfi eld but on 4&10 Davis was sk d for a 13 yd loss...at one point Dayne Crist had 12 straight completions for Notre Dame. Pitt did miss a 27 yd FG early 2Q and then their holder dropped the snap on a 36 yd FG at the end of the half and ND led 17-3 at the half. Pitt took some chances in the 2H. Trailing 20-3, they went for it on 4&1 at their own 32 and Lewis got a 30 yd run to the ND38 keying a 77/10pl TD drive. Pitt was SOD at its own 13 with 1:11 left and ND took a knee 2x...Toledo had their moments vs Boise St as they only trailed 15-7 in the 1Q and also fumbled at their own 45 setting up a TD and were int d at the BSU16 in the 2Q. BSU got a TD with :30 left 1H to lead 36-7 then got a 36 yd IR TD to go up Up 50-7, they recovered a fumble and drove 27/7pl for a TD to lead 57-7 with 2:03 left 3Q. UT went 71/11pl for a TD with 10:55 left but BSU ate up 10:31 on a 14pl drive before being SOD at the UT26...Wake Forest had a solid advantage vs Navy in the fact they had just faced GT s option offense the previous week and were catching Navy at the tail end of a 6,000 mile 3 game road trip. Tanner Price returned to the lineup and hit yds for WF. With the game tied at 7, WF fumbled at the Navy4. Later WF fumbled at the Navy49 but still led at the half. Leading WF settled for a 31 yd FG with 8:34 left, Navy got a TD with :26 left to lead WF ret d the KO 47 yds to the 49 needing only a FG for the win but their fi nal 3 passes were incomplete...one of the reasons we liked Miss St over Houston beside the talent difference, was that MSU s large O-line fi gured to overpower UH s smaller defensive front. MSU rushed for 409 yards on 57 carries and had 538 yds offense. MSU led at the half and opened the 3Q with a drive for a TD. Starting QB Relf was shaken up and Russell QB d the rest. MSU led when they had a 31 yd FG blk d with 8:15 left 3Q at the end of a 10 pl drive. Their next drive was 61/9pl but they settled for a 39 yd FG which was blk d. They scored a TD with 7:08 left, and UH got a garbage TD with 4:36 left. MSU ended at the game at the UH15 for a comfortable 23 point win. BACKDOOR COVERS - Air Force led Colorado St 28-7 at the half and extended it to after 3Q s. Colorado St got a TD with 11:14 left and then took over with 6:55 left and drove 92/16pl. A TD with :41 left gave them the backdoor cover. Colorado St outrushed Air Force thanks to those last 2 drives Air Force did abandon the run in the 2H going to more of a pass attack and threw for 185 yards.

Our ratings are unlike any computer rating> as *e take into account all of the follo*ing@ Strength of Opponents Individual Units (Rushing Offense and Defense> Passing Offense> I Defense> Scoring Offense and Defense> Garbage Yards> Weather> InMuries> Home Field Edge> and Successful Unbalanced Attacks). Here is ho* each is re! ected@ Strength of Opponent@ Our ratings do not Must take the opposing team s overall po*er rating into account. For example> in 1992> Washington s defense vs the rush *as rated at a W110Y (From 1-100). They faced Colorado and allo*ed 183 yds rushing and dropped 12 spots in the national rushing defense ratings. Ho*ever> Po*er Plays took into account the potent Buffalo run attack and had forecasted the Huskies yielding 225 yds. Due to the fact they did better than the forecast> Po*er Plays raised their rating to 112 even though they slipped in the national (straight yardage) rankings. Another example *as Michigan vs Purdue in Michigan held Purdue to Must 45 yards rushing and improved their ratings in rushing defense in the national statistics. Ho*ever> our ratings had them rated at a 102 and moved them do*n to 99> as they should have yielded Must 32 yards to an impotent Purdue rush attack. Next time an announcer on TV tells you that a certain team is c3 in the country vs the run you better check Northcoast Sports Power Ratings and see how good a rush defense they really have! The top t*enty ratings in Po*er Ratings for each offensive and defensive category *ill be listed in each *eek s issue of Po*er Plays. Garbage yards@ These are yards that a team gains or allo*s in the "nal minutes of a game *hen it has been decided. For example> Team A is ahead 63-0 and allo*s 93 yards passing for a TD vs its fourth string defense. These yards are counted into national ratings> but not in Northcoast Sports Power Ratings! Weather@ If a game is played in miserable *eather conditions and is lo* scoring> the straight statistics credit the defense *ith outstanding performances. Our Po*er Ratings re! ect the conditions and do not give excess credit to the defenses. Injuries@ When South Carolina played NC State in 1989> South Carolina fb Todd Ellis *as inmured on the third play of the game. His backup> *ho had seen very little action all year> *as not prepared and hit on Must 4 of 13 passes for 65 yards. The offensive coordinator did not risk any passes. In the national statistics NC State s pass defense MOVED UP 14 NOTCHES. In our Po*er Ratings they stayed the same> as the lo* yardage WAS NOT re! ective of an outstanding performance by the defense. Home Field Edges@ The *eekly promection of yards and points is *eighted *ith the home " eld factored in. Successful Unbalanced Attacks@ In 1989> Ohio St *as held to 127 yards passing vs North*estern. This dropped OSU in the national passing offense ratings I RAISED the Wildcats in the pass defense ratings. In our ratings the t*o units remained rated the same. Whyg OSU rushed for 456 yards I DID NOT HAVE TO PASS I *hen they did they hit 9 of 11 passes> *hich is VERY effective. While North*estern s pass defense looked good in the national ratings> only Northcoast Sports Po*er Ratings re!ected the TRUTH! There you have it. More than Must numbers> THESE RATINGS REFLECT the true strength of each unit and allo* them to have the most accurate forecast of yards gained and points allowed in the country! No other rating system takes into account all the previous factors. Next time you hear that a team is rated third in the country in pass defense> Must remember> yards are not everything and Northcoast Sports Po*er Plays *ill sho* you ho* strong the team really is. NORTHCOAST SPORTS PLUS OR MINUS POWER RATINGS The Po*er Ratings listed belo* are not based on the Po*er Plays> they are based on last year s "nal computer po*er rating numbers *ith the pluses and minuses from the off season changes factored in. They are then admusted during the course of the season based on the "nal score of the games that are played on a *eekly basis. The Po*er Ratings listed belo* can be used for you as a base po*er ratings to forecast up coming lines and strength of opponents> etc. Once again> they are not based on Po*er Plays and they differ from what we have shown in recent years> *hich has been our actual computer Po*er Ratings. Rutgers is 7-0 ATS vs Army winning the L6 by an avg score of We won with a 4.5! on Army LW and PP says Army will pull another outright upset TW. NO PLAY: ARMY 21 RUTGERS 20 MIAMI, OH CENTRAL MICHIGAN PP says CM will win by 12 (line 11) with a yd edge, but we like the dog Miami. NO PLAY: C MICHIGAN 33 MIAMI OH 21 MARYLAND " CLEMSON The visitor is 4-1 SU with 4 outright upsets, but PP calls this right at the line but shows Clemson with a yd edge. 5 IOWA " MICHIGAN The score certainly favors Iowa but the yards don t so we ll pass. PP is calling for the Hawkeyes to fi nish with only a yd edge. Iowa was outgained by 59 yds & did lose their only other road game TY. NO PLAY: IOWA 33 MICHIGAN 25 OREGON ST """ WASHINGTON We ll pass here as the forecast is divided. PP is calling for a 2 pt OSU win but the forecast is also for Wash to fi nish with a yd edge. Could be a letdown after the Beavers knocked off #9 UA LW. NO PLAY: OREGON ST 33 WASHINGTON 31 WAKE FOREST VIRGINIA TECH PP is calling for VT to have a sizeable yardage edge but this is usually where the Grobe coached team has success. We lean with the Demon Deacons who have gone 8-3 ATS as a conf DD dog. NO PLAY: VIRGINIA TECH 42 WAKE FOREST 16 IDAHO LOUISIANA TECH "" La Tech is fi nally settled in at QB and we expect a sizeable increase in their numbers. PP is calling for Idaho here but with LT having outgained Utah St LW, we like their new found potential. NO PLAY: IDAHO 25 LOUISIANA TECH 23 BYU TCU "" TCU has won 16 straight at home with an avg score of so don t be afraid to lay over 4 TD s. PP is calling for the Horned Frogs to fi nish with a yd edge and they ll have to impress voters as well. 2! TCU 39 BYU 6 UTEP UAB This forecast is a bit misleading as UAB has avg d 480 ypg at home and gained 544 at Tennessee. The Blazers are forecasted with a yd edge and we agree with the yards here. NO PLAY: UTEP 29 UAB 26 ARIZONA "" WASHINGTON ST This series brings back fond memories as it produced Power Sweep s only ever 5!. PP has Arizona forecasted with a yd edge and will be angry after a home loss LW. We like the Wildcats here. NO PLAY: ARIZONA 36 WASHINGTON ST 19 UTAH "" WYOMING Not afraid to back a Utes team that s beaten NM & Iowa St by a combined while outgaining them Another blowout in the offi ng with a projected yd edge. 4.5! UTAH 41 WYOMING 14 KENT ST "" TOLEDO PP give the Rockets edges in yards ( ) and in the score but Kent St has the turnover and ST edge. KSU s D is for real and they are allowing just 283 ypg & 1.7 ypc incl trips to BC & Penn St. NO PLAY: TOLEDO 26 KENT ST 21 OKLAHOMA ST TEXAS TECH " OSU s offense may be avg 526 ypg but so far their only road game was against a Sun Belt team that is currently ranked #99 in D. PP knows better and TT is forecasted with a dominating yd edge. 1! TEXAS TECH 44 OKLAHOMA 39 MISSOURI TEXAS A&M """ We ll look past the score as the Aggies are forecasted to fi nish with a yd edge. A&M offense is still rolling as they ve topped 500+ yds 3 times and face a Missouri squad making their 1st true road trip. NO PLAY: TEXAS A&M 26 MISSOURI 26 SOUTHERN MISS "" MEMPHIS When you re only 6 games into the ssn and your team has already been outgained by 240, 332 & 351 yds it s a bad time to take on a SM team off a home loss. BOISE ST 42 SAN JOSE ST 2 AIR FORCE " SAN DIEGO ST While you may not think of D when talking about SDSt but they re only allowing 319 ypg & 3.5 ypc. A closer look shows two similar teams with the NCAA s #2 & #6 off and & #69 & #72 D s. We ll take the HD. 4! HAWAII (+) 37 NEVADA 38 ARKANSAS ST INDIANA " PP likes ASU as they opened as a 2 TD dog. Indiana s defensive continues to struggle as they re allowing 434 ypg and that includes facing Akron s #119, WKU #110 and the 1AA offense of Towson. NO PLAY: INDIANA 32 ARKANSAS ST 23 MIDDLE TENNESSEE """" GEORGIA TECH PP has the expected edges for the Ramblin Wreck but we disagree. This is a tough spot for GT after 4 straight ACC games incl a Homecoming win LW while having an ACC Champ rematch on deck. NO PLAY: GEORGIA TECH 39 MIDDLE TENNESSEE 15 ULM "" WKU We have this game at even and that s where Vegas opened it. PP however calls for the Hilltoppers to fi nished with a yd edge and win by 5. Must be noted that WKU has lost 11 straight at home. 3! WKU 27 ULM 22 LOUISIANA TROY " Troy is off a win against fellow SBC heavyweight MT. This is the Trojans only game in a 25 day period and they are forecasted to outgain ULL by a margin. Troy is 11-1 SU & 9-3 ATS home vs SBC foes. 4! Obviously this newsletter is based upon statistical numbers and rankings that are used to develop the projections you see here. As with all types statistical information the more numbers that one inputs ordinarily the stronger the accuracy of the results. Therefore, one would expect the projections to be more reliable after a number of weeks worth of stats are input. The numbers here are based upon how they fi nished last season with adjustments made due to personnel changes. Preseason statistics are not included in any of the projections as we do not feel they would accurately adjust the numbers. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 17th SAN DIEGO c32 ST LOUIS c25 Something has to give in SD as all 3 losses TY have due to bad special teams play. Injuries at LB have pushed special teamers into the starting lineup further weakening those units. SD logged a yd edge vs OAK but special teams & an inability to get off the fi eld on 3rd & 4th Dns (8-18) cost them. STL was drummed by DET LW & lost their best WR Clayton (patella) for the year. PP calls for SD to log a yd edge here but the 10 pt margin is right around the line so No Play. NO PLAY: CHARGERS 27 RAMS 17 KANSAS CITY c2 HOUSTON c20 HOU was mauled by the Giants LW at home as their #32 pass defense was taken apart. The Texans have given up at least 360 yds & 24 ppg to start the season. KC has only given up 360 yds once TY (SD) as DC Crennel runs a very basic scheme that plays to the athleticsm & speed of his defense. KC hung tough with IND LW thru 3.5 Qtrs LW but gave up a 12 pl/71 yd drive late that put the game out of reach. PP likes KC here to pull the upset but we want to wait on the line to settle in & check WR Johnson s health 1st. NO PLAY: CHIEFS 26 TEXANS 23 BALTIMORE c26 NEW ENGLAND c4 NE is off the bye week were they got a good look at how a pass heavy team with no balance fares vs the Ravens defense. While the trade of Moss does lessen the deep threat for NE, they have been using a heavy amount of 2-TE sets & emphasizing route running. BAL logged its 1st victory by DD s TY but were in a great situation vs a DEN team on its 2nd EST road game with a young OL & no run game. NE has a massive special teams edge, more defensive speed than what took the fi eld in LY s playoff loss to BAL with extra rest (5-2 ATS after bye) & are a small play here. 1! PATRIOTS 30 RAVENS 23 NEW ORLEANS c7 TAMPA BAY c19 NO is off 2 embarrassing games where they struggled vs rookie QB s despite outgaining them by 132 & 179 yds respectively. Their lack of a run game (#31 3.3) allows defenses to play the deep routes to limit explosive plays. NO is also not getting the lucky breaks that they had LY (4 fbls by ARZ - 0 takeaways) while TB got them LW. The Bucs were gifted 3 Int s LW vs CIN (2 in fi nal 2:30) which they turned into 17 pts. PP calls for TB to keep it close but we disagree as NO is the proven & more talented team here. NO PLAY: SAINTS 24 BUCS 23 ATLANTA c14 PHILADELPHIA c18 PHI escaped with a SNF win LW by turning 5 49ers TO s into 10 pts. Kolb played within the system as the Eagles called a very balanced game (+4 passes) with 125 yds rushing (4.6). ATL has this game targeted as the Eagles came into their house as a 5 pt favorite & beat them 34-7 with Vick scoring 2 TD s. ATL has outgained its L4 foes & were able to overcome a tougher than expected CLE team. PP calls for ATL (who didn t have Ryan or Turner LY) to earn the road win & we agree. 4! FALCONS (+) 25 EAGLES 17 DETROIT c3 NY GIANTS c27 The Giants will have lots of confi dence here after 2 big wins dominating on defense then offense. They scored on 5 of their 1st 7 drives LW while forcing HOU into 1 FG, 1 Int & 4 punts. They now take on a DET team who ended a 10 game losing streak with their biggest win since beating the expansion Jaguars in PP calls for the Giants to dominate with a yd edge here but thinks the Lions will keep it close & we disagree so No Play. NO PLAY: GIANTS 27 LIONS 23 SEATTLE c1 CHICAGO c12 SEA is only 2-10 SU & 1-11 ATS after a bye & their -5 TO s on the road TY have killed them. They did improve their #29 run game with the other trade of LW by acquiring RB Lynch from BUF. SEA is 1-8 SU & ATS on the road with Hasselbeck (6-12 ratio). CHI s defense took advantage of their matchups vs CAR LW holding them to 147 yds forcing 8 3 & out drives. Its not unusual for Martz to discover his run game after an embarrassing loss ( LW) & he ll likely be under strict guidelines to do so again. Cutler is expected back here & look for CHI to employ a balanced gameplan here to protect him. 4! BEARS 23 SEAHAWKS 11 MIAMI c30 GREEN BAY c25 GB went into the WAS game without 3 starters & had 5 more including QB Rodgers (concussion) & OLB Matthews (hamstring) leave the game. MIA was thoroughly embarrassed at home on MNF before the bye & will be very focused here. MIA has the talent to make the AFC East an interesting race but Henne needs to make better decisions (5-4 ratio) & play to the run game. With no line due to the vast amount of injuries here this is a No Play for now. NO PLAY: PACKERS 30 DOLPHINS 23 CLEVELAND c19 PITTSBURGH c9 The 3-1 Steelers with the #5 defense return from their bye with their franchise QB who was allowed to practice with the team over the break. CLE comes into the game beat up at the QB spot as both Delhomme & Wallace have ankle sprains. RB Hillis was held to 28 yds (2.8) on the ground as the Browns lack of speed on offense allowed ATL to focus in on him. This is a very bad matchup for a beat up CLE team on the road vs a Div foe who will have LY s 13-6 upset as 10.5 pt AF s in primetime on though the total is worth a look. NO PLAY: STEELERS 21 BROWNS 12 NY JETS c3 DENVER c20 Orton is 1 of 3 QB s who for the 1st time in NFL history who have earned 1,600 yds passing in the 1st 5 Wks (P Manning & Rivers). DEN is catching the Jets at a good time as they travel on a short week for the 3rd time in 4 Wks after 3 primetime games to open the season. The Jets also have a bye on deck & will be happy to leave with a win. Without knowing how they did vs MIN on MNF though we ll call this a No Play. NO PLAY: JETS 27 BRONCOS 16 OAKLAND c11 SAN FRANCISCO c27 The Raiders ended a 13 game losing streak to the Chargers thanks to solid special teams play. QB Campbell was effi cient off the bench (159 yds 72%) with 1 TD & didn t make any mistakes to let the game slip away. Now they travel across the Bay to take on the best 0-5 team in the NFL. 5 TO s & 10 penalties did SF in LW with QB Smith being one of the biggest hot & cold QB s in the league. Owner Jed York put his confi dence in the team by publicly announcing that we re going to win this division after the loss. There is a chance SF starts QB Carr here & we ll make this a No Play as we want to see if they do. NO PLAY: 49ERS 25 RAIDERS 20 DALLAS c22 MINNESOTA c23 MIN destroyed DAL LY 34-3 as a 3 pt HF holding them to 5 FD & 103 yds in the 2H. They are off LW s MNF game & its unknown if Favre got into rhythm after the bye & how effective Moss was in the passing game. DAL dominated statistically LW with a yd edge (13:28 TOP edge) but 3 TO s & 133 yds of penalties doomed them. With no line due to MNF this is a No Play. NO PLAY: VIKINGS 20 COWBOYS 12 INDIANAPOLIS c31 WASHINGTON c5 Shanahan is 2-7 SU & ATS vs Manning including playoffs. IND found itself in a tougher than expected matchup vs the Colts & needed an impressive 4Qtr drive for the win. WAS played disciplined football LW & were able to take advantage of GB s injuries to rally from a 10 pt defi cit for the win. Can IND move to 8-1 ATS in primetime or will WAS pull their 4th upset of 2010? NO PLAY: COLTS 21 REDSKINS 16 MONDAY, OCTOBER 18th TENNESSEE c8 JACKSONVILLE c4 This is the Jaguars Super Bowl as a 3 win streak will go a long ways to boosting ticket sales & staving off talks of relocation. TEN is 10-6 SU & ATS vs the Jaguars as their physical playstyle simply matches up very well. All 4 teams in the AFC South are 3-2 & the winner gains a vital tiebreaker.
