Lorenzo Romar has tied Hec Edmundson for most 25-win seasons (4) by a coach. With one more win he would equal the 4th most in a year. Quincy Pondexter has played in a UW record 134 career games. Pondexter (670) and Isaiah Thomas (565) have combined to score 45.4% of the UW s 2,713 points this season. Thomas has 1,106 career points, the most ever by a UW player in their first two seasons. Venoy Overton (139) needs one steal to tie Nate Robinson for 4th most in UW history. Pondexter s 670 pts are the 3rd-most in a season by a UW player. He needs 14 pts. to move past Bob Houbregs (1,774) for 3rd most career pts. Pondexter earned a Pac-10 record fi ve Player of the Week honors during the season. Thomas and Pondexter were named fi rst team All-Pac-10, while Venoy Overton and Justin Holiday were on the All-Pac-10 Defensive team. He tallied win number 150 for his UW career, just the fourth coach to reach that mark, against Montana on Nov. 29. He owns a (.654) record at Washington and is (.596) in 13 seasons as a head coach. The fi rst African-American head basketball coach at UW, he moved to third all-time in victories at UW after passing Tippy Dye against Cal on Jan. 16. That win was also the 250th overall during his coaching career. Romar led Washington to three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances (2004, 05, 06) and the school s fi rst back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances (2005 & 06). He was the 2005 Pac-10 and Black Coaches Association Coach of the Year. Romar played point guard for Marv Harshman s 1979 and 1980 teams and spent fi ve years in the NBA after college. Prior to UW, Romar served as the head coach at Saint Louis ( ) and Pepperdine ( ) and was an assistant coach at UCLA ( ) - He helped lead the Bruins to the 1995 national title. A native of Compton, Calif., he graduated from Pius X High School. Romar and his wife, Leona, have three daughters: Terra, Tavia and Taylor - a current UW cheerleader. By no means was it an easy road for the Huskies as they almost didn t make it out of the quarterfi nals against Oregon State, who they had met in their previous game fi ve nights earlier. UW had to rally from a nine point halftime deficit and trailed by 12 with 16:49 remaining before a 23-4 run put the Dawgs in control and on their way to a win. Thomas scored 15 to lead the Dawgs. The next night Washington and Stanford came out ice cold from the fl oor but fortunately for the Huskies their defense did not rest and they were just warm enough to hold a halftime lead. Stanford never lead in the game and UW ran away in the second half with 51 points and a win. Pondexter had 19 and Thomas 17 to lead the way to the win. In Saturday s fi nalagainst Cal, the lead changed hands 22 times but ultimately Washington was able to escape with the win, thanks in large part to hot shooting and limiting Jerome Randle and Patrick Christorpher who each shot 3x11 from the fl oor. Pondexter scored 18 and Thomas 16, and the UW role players all had a hand in helping UW to its fi rst conference trounament title since Thomas was named the Most
