With the help of this program guide, we hope you find many ways to be involved at the Blair Family YMCA this summer. From summer camps to a community wellness day and senior bingo to swim lessons, we have programs for every age group and ability. Join us today! Child Watch At the Y, we know that it s important for your child to have fun and learn while you are recharging. That s why we offer free Child Watch, supervised play for children ages 6 weeks to 7 years, while parents exercise at the Y. Parents must remain in the building. The Y, in partnership with the Blair Area Chamber of Commerce & the Blair Public Library are offering a special entrepreneur class for youth ages This day camp aims to equip them with the knowledge and skills to start their own business or improve an existing one! Janita Pavelka, award winning Youth Entrepreneurship Educator will be leading the class. Days & Times: Monday - Friday 10am 2pm Ages: years Cost: Members $40/Non-Members $55

4 YOUTH DEVELOPMENT Summer Day Camps Have the BEST SUMMER EVER at YMCA Day Camp! Amazing things happen when kids unplug and reconnect with others! Y Summer Day Camp provides a fun, safe experience for kids to learn new skills, build self-confidence, and make lasting friendships. The Y camp offers choices for all interests, including traditional outdoor camps, a huge variety of sports camps, and themed camps for every interest -- like aquatics, cooking, art, science, music and so much more! Our campers aged 5-12, build skills and confidence get to know one another, make new friends, and feel like they belong. Day camp activities are age appropriate, challenge attitudes and actions and are fun! The structured daily schedule includes small group time, all camp activities and field trips SUMMER DAY CAMP DATES: May 29- August 8, 2018 Summer Day Camp Rates There is a one time $30 Non-refundable Registration fee due at the time of registration. Fee covers a camp t-shirt, YMCA lunch bag and all field trips. Please bring sunscreen. 5 YOUTH DEVELOPMENT Summer Day Camps Blair Family YMCA takes on a campy feel in the Summer for our Summer Day Camp. We are gearing up for the BEST SUMMER EVER! So grab those water bottles, slather on that sunscreen and join us each week as we explore, create and become the best we can be! Dates Theme Description May 29th-June 1st IGNITE YOUR SUMMER Grab your sunglasses, water bottle and get ready for a fun week to start off the Summer. The fun will rise as the heat does! Help us set the tone and kick off Summer right with outdoor games, crafts, sports and variety of get to know you games! June 4th-8th ANIMAL PLANET Lions, Tigers and Bears Oh My! Come on a safari with us to the Zoo and learn everything from animal calls to life at the Zoo. Learn about all different habitats and experience the different plants and animals on our planet. June 11th-15th ARE YOU GAME? The clock starts ticking, the crowd is watching, your team is cheering you on let the games begin! From board games to sports, this week has something for every camp ALL STAR! June 18th-22nd NEBRASKA ADVENTURES Nebraska is indeed a beautiful land. We will dive into the Nebraska Outdoors and travel back in time to explore our natural history. June 25th-29th FARM TO TABLE In this camp, we will fully immerse campers in the science, history and fun of agriculture and provide the perfect set of activities for kids to enjoy during the Summer. We will teach students about the science of butter making and ice cream. July 2nd-6th *No Class on 7/4/18* RED, Y AND BLUE Join us as we celebrate our amazing country! We will have the best birthday party this week for the USA. We will participate in activities that celebrate our country and community. July 9th-13th ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN We are keeping this week s theme a mystery. Join us as the adventure unfolds. Be prepared for anything can happen! July 16th 20th MYTH BUSTERS Can you really slip on a banana peel? Can you really catch a cold from the weather? Are yawns contagious? Take a look at some of the most common myths as we take an in-depth look and see if they can be BUSTED! July 23rd-27th WATER WIPEOUT Splash into Summer and join us for a week jam-packed with water games. Cool off with us as we swim at local pools and water parks. July 30th-August 3rd BOOTS AND HOMETOWN ROOTS Pull out your cowboy boots for a foot stompin good time! We will spend our days in the Great Outdoors and explore all it has to offer. Campers will attend the Washington County Fair this week. August 6th-8th THE FINAL COUNTDOWN It s the end of the Summer and we are counting it down, but going out in style. Join us for a final week filled with activities, games and swimming. Just because school is starting back doesn t mean we can t have FUN!

6 YOUTH & FAMILY ENRICHMENT PARENTS NIGHT OUT (FREE FOR MEMBERS) Parents can enjoy a night out while children enjoy meeting new friends and having fun at the YMCA. Parents Night Outs are now offered once a month at the Y. Time: 5-10 p.m. Ages: 3-12 (must be toilet trained) Class limit: 75 Dinner is provided. This program helps kids develop teamwork, problem solving and sportsmanship. Bring your Nerf guns, and we will supply the darts and the engineering help. Kidswill be arranged into age appropriate groups. Time: 7-8:30 p.m. Grades: K-5 Class limit: 50 Fee: Member: $5/Non-Member: $10 Register by 6 p.m. the night of the event. NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL DODGEBALL NIGHTS Saturdays, May 12 and July 28 Teens will get their hearts pumping while gaining skills like coordination and teamwork all while having a blast playing Dodgeball. Grab a friend and join us for some dodge ball fun at the Y! Time: 9-10:30 p.m. Grades: 6th-8th Fee: $4 if pre-registered, $5 at the door OUTDOOR POOL PARTIES Middle School Night Wednesday, July 25 (8-11pm) Gather some of your friends and head to the City Pool for a summer time pool party. There will be games and fun along with pizza and snacks for purchase. Fee: Free for Y members, $5 for non-members. Family Night Tuesday, August 7 (8-10pm) Gather some of your friends and head to the City Pool for a summer time pool party for whole family. Fee: Free for Y members, $20 for a non-member family.

7 SPECIAL EVENTS 12th ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT FOR OUR STRONG KIDS CAMPAIGN Sponsored by Washington County Bank & CON-E-CO Friday, June River Wilds Golf Course Registration Deadline: May 25, 2018 Hole Sponsor & 4-person golf team - $500 4-person golf team - $350. Golf pricing includes sack lunch on the golf cart and brisket dinner. 2nd Annual Fastest Round of Golf - $30 person Children and Adults are both invited to take place in this potentially RECORD SETTING EVENT. Event will take place from 11:30am - 12:30pm on June 1st. 28th ANNUAL GATEWAY TO THE WEST RUN/WALK (That 80 s Run) June 9 at 8am Let s Get This Run Started! Run back to the future with this 80 s themed FUN RUN or WALK! You bring the neon shorts, leggings and big hair and we ll bring the 80 s music to get you started and finished. Afterwards you can run into our 80 s themed Zumba class on the outdoor basketball court. We will award prizes for the best Totally 80 s costume (Adult Male & Female and Children12 & under) and fastest Runner (Adult Male & Female and Children 12 & under). Time: Registration at 7am race starts at 8am Fee: $25 (Must be registered by May 23rd to receive a Neon Shirt.) NEW ADULT & PEDIATRIC FIRST AID/CPR/AED CERTIFICATION Saturday, April 21 The Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course incorporates the latest science and teaches students to; recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries, heat and cold emergencies and how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies to help victims of any age - adults (about 12 years and older) and pediatric (infants and children up to 12 years of age). Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED valid for two years. Time: 8-1:00 Age: 12 years and older Fee: Member: $65/Non-Member: $80 This project was funded in part by a grant from the Blair Area Community Foundation. NEW Class will be taught by April Komasinski. She is a Defensive Tactics and Pressure Point Control Tactics Instructor. She is also a Police officer for the Papillion, Ne Police Department. WOMEN S SELF DEFENSE CLASS Thursdays, May 3rd June 7th This class will focus on self-defense tactics that are valuable and empowering for women. By learning and practicing the most effective survival strategies, women will feel stronger and safer on a day-to-day basis! Time: 7:15-8:15 p.m. Age: 16 years and older Fee: Member $50/Non-Member $100

8 HEALTHY LIVING SUMMER SIZZLE CHALLENGE Sponsored by Cargill Sweet Bran Feed Team May 1 - July 31 Get your fitness and body sizzlin with this summer challenge! Exercise at your Blair Y at least 15 times per month in May, June, and July (a total of 45 times) and you will be entered in the drawing to win a Yeti Cooler to help show off the dedication, all Summer Sizzle participants who reach 25 times will receive a YMCA tank top. You can reach 45 times by hitting the weight room, sweating during a group exercise class, swimming laps, shooting some hoops, or playing pickle ball. It s that easy! Register at the Welcome Center to receive a punch card to help track progress during the challenge. $10 Members BOOT CAMP 2018 Summer Boot Camp: May 14 - June 22 This class is a group physical training program designed to help participants build strength, endurance, flexibility and overall fitness through a variety of exercises. This fast-paced, calorie-burning class is geared toward most fitness levels. Modifications are always offered for the beginner to the advanced. This class offers support, accountability and camaraderie. Plus, we will enjoy the great outdoors by exercising outside when the weather permits. Morning Boot Camp Monday, Wednesday & Friday Time: 5:30-6:15 a.m. or 6:30-7:00 a.m. Class limit: 40 Fee: Member Free/Non-Members: $100 Evening Boot Camp Monday & Wednesday Time: 5:30-6:15 p.m. Class limit: 30 Fee: Members Free/Non-Members: $75 YOUTH CARDIO KICKBOXING Thursdays 6:30-7:15pm (Starts April 5th) NEW YOUTH WEIGHT TRAINING Youth Weight Training participants will learn the basics of weight lifting followed by weight training on free weights and Cybex weight machines. Participants can exercise in the wellness center upon completion. Registration and scheduling can be done at the Welcome Center. By appointment only. Age: Fee: $30 Members only. SUMMER FIT & FUN Mondays & Wednesday June 4 20 Be Y Strong at a young age! This class is designed to keep middle school aged kids stay engaged and focused on health and well-being during the summer. We will work on age appropriate cardio and strength exercises while building friendships and working together as a team. At the Blair Family Y, we want to make sure that every youth has the opportunity to exercise and have the tools for living a healthier lifestyle. Grades: 6th-8th Time: 11-11:40am Fee: Members $25/ Non-Members $45 NEW A 45 minute cardio and strength training workout that includes combinations of punching and martial arts style kicking, combined with use of resistance bands and abdominal work, all set to upbeat music. For ages 7-14.

10 HEALTHY LIVING Adult & Senior Programs CLASSIC FITNESS Ongoing, Monday & Friday This low-impact aerobics class will help seniors stay fit and healthy. Low-impact aerobics helps increase balance, coordination, flexibility and overall fitness with less strain on the joints. Time: 9-10 a.m. Class limit: Fee: Included with membership. FOUNDATIONS OF MOVEMENT Tuesdays, Wednesday & Thursdays 10:30-11:30 a.m. This class is specific to those with Parkinson s Disease, however people with balance issues such as diabetes, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis may also benefit from these exercises. It will be a safe environment with goals of increasing range of motion, improving strength and balance. Fee: Free for Members/Day pass for Non Members TAI CHI Moving for Better Balance Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays 7:45-8:30 a.m. This beginner s Tai Chi class for older adults is a gentle exercise also known as a moving meditation that helps improve balance and helps prevent falls. It empowers a person so they feel more confident in daily activities. Tai Chi improves a person s mental and social well-being. You will leave the class with a smile. Class limit: 20 Participants should wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Fee: Free for Members/Day Pass for Non-Members. PICKLEBALL - DROP IN Monday - Friday, 9 a.m a.m. Pickle ball is a fun game that is played on a badminton court with the net lowered to 34 inches. Enjoy learning and playing this game in drop-in pickle ball. It s easy for beginners and can develop into a fun, fast-paced competition for more advanced players. Drop in anytime to learn and play pickle ball and have fun staying active. No registration necessary. Fee: Free for Members/Day Pass for Non-Members. ADULT CO-ED SOFTBALL Get back in the game this summer and join a softball team. Games are played on Fridays, starting at 6 p.m. A double elimination tournament will be played at the end of the season. Location: Dana Softball and Baseball Field Dates: May 25 - June 29 with Tournament to follow Register by Friday, May 18. Fee: $280 per team. BINGO Ongoing, Tuesdays & Thursdays 9 a.m p.m. Bingo at the Y is a great place to meet other seniors and enjoy conversation and activities year round. Free for all seniors. ADULT NOON BASKETBALL Need a little competition to exercise? Join us for pick-up basketball games played Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from noon-1 p.m. Fee: Free for members.

11 AQUATICS CHILD SWIM LESSONS Kids of all ages will learn safety around the water while gaining confidence and self-esteem through learning to swim with American Red Cross swim lessons offered through the Y. Location for Sessions 1-3: City Pool Divisions: Preschool/Levels 1-6 Age: 3 and up, must be toilet trained Class limit: 6 Please have child wear a swimsuit under his/her clothing and bring a towel. Session 1: Monday, June 4-Thursday, June 14 (M-TH) Time: 9-9:30 a.m./9:35-10:05 a.m./10:10-10:40 a.m. Registration dates: Monday, May 14-Thursday, May 31. Fee: $40 members/$65 non-members. Session 2: Monday, June 25-Friday, July 6 No class Wednesday July 4. Makeup day is Friday, July 6. Fee: $40 members/$65 non-members. LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION June 4-8 Lifeguarding will help you develop skills and experience that will be valued by colleges and future employers. This 30 hour course includes First Aid, CPR and AED. Certification will be valid for 2 years. The primary purpose of the Red Cross lifeguarding program is to provide the entry lifeguarding participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent recognize and respond to emergencies and to provide the care for injuries and sudden illnesses in and around the water until emergency medical services (EMS) arrive and take over. This course is design for those planning on working in an indoor or outdoor pool environment. Prerequisites: Minimum age of 15 and pass Prerequisite Skill Test. Prerequisite Skills Test - Swim 300 yards continuously, using these strokes in the following order: 100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick. 100 yards of breaststroke 100 yards of either front crawl using rhythmic breathing or breaststroke. Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Exit the water without using a ladder, with-in 1 minute, and 40 seconds. Fee: $200 Course fee includes Lifeguard and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers Certifications and pocket mask. *Must be 15 years of age to participate.
