Wisconsin (27-15, 9-5) hosts Purdue ( , 12-5) in a Big Ten showdown at Goodman Diamond this weekend in the Badgers final home weekend series of the year. The Badgers and Boilermakers meet in a 4 p.m. game on Friday that will air on BTN before meeting on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon. The Badgers enter the weekend with a 10-game winning streak, the longest current such streak in the Big Ten. During the streak, Wisconsin has outscored its opponents and has held its opponents to two runs or fewer in seven of the contests. In addition, Mary Massei has 15 hits during the streak, while Michelle Mueller has six home runs and 22 RBI during the 10-game stretch. On the season, Michelle Mueller ranks second in the Big Ten in RBI with 45 and is tied for third in home runs with 10. Mary Massei s eight home runs rank sixth in the league, while her 53 hits rank eighth in the conference. The second annual Get To Goodman game will take place on Sunday as the Badgers look to break their single-game attendance record of 2,007. The game is also the annual Youth Team Day and free ice cream will be available to fans in attendance while supplies last courtesy of Schoep s Ice Cream. The Badgers trail the series with Purdue The Boilermakers won the last series against the Badgers back in 2012, winning two of three in West Lafayette, Ind. The Boilermakers enter the weekend winners of their past five series in Big Ten play. Purdue has won Big Ten series this year against Penn State, Michigan State, Indiana, Ohio State and Illinois. Not only did the senior earn her second career Big Ten Player of the Week award, but she was named the USA Softball Player of the Week and the Louisville Slugger NFCA Player of the Week. The La Crosse, Wis., native gathered nine hits in 15 at bats for a.600 batting average en route to her second career Big Ten Player of the Week award. Mueller smoked a grand slam against North Dakota in UW s, 17-1, Game 2 win. She added three home runs in three consecutive at bats in the Badgers 10-3 win over Illinois, marking just the fifth time that s ever happened in NCAA history. In total, Mueller picked up six extra-base hits (two doubles and four home runs), five runs, one walk and 18 RBI in five games against UND (two) and Illinois (three). 500 CLUB Wisconsin won its 500th game, 3-2, on April 12 against Illinois. The program has posted fourteen 20-win seasons since its start in 1996, including five-straight since head coach Yvette Healy took the helm in UW has an all-time record of for a winning percentage of.507. The Badgers have just six sub-.500 years in 18 completed seasons. SENIOR SWAG The four Wisconsin seniors dominated action on April 9 in 11-2 and 17-1 wins against North Dakota. Mary Massei went 3-for-5 on the day with two runs, two long balls and four RBI. Michelle Mueller finished with three hits in five at bats, including a grand slam in the second inning of Game 2. The La Crosse, Wis., native recorded nine RBI in the two games. Stephanie Peace added four hits in six tries, as she also poked two over the outfield fence, helping her to gather three RBI. Cassandra Darrah picked up her eleventh win of the season, allowing just two runs, one earned, on five hits and one walk in Game 1. OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION Wisconsin s three home runs in the second inning of its 17-1 win over North Dakota tied the program record, matching three previous instances against Ohio State and North Dakota State in 2005 and East Tennessee State in The Badgers five home runs in the contest was the second most by a UW squad in a contest and the team s 17 runs tied a school record for the most in a single game. BEATING THE RANKED UW s 2-1 Game 1 win in the April 6 doubleheader at No. 14 Minnesota was the team s third win over a ranked opponent this season. The Badgers gained 7-5 victories against then-no. 7 Arizona on March 7 and No. 23 Northwestern on March 22. Wisconsin holds a 3-9 record versus the top-25 this season. NEW CAREER HIGHS Senior pitcher Cassandra Darrah threw the second no-hitter of her career in an 8-0, five-inning win over Detroit on March 20. Darrah went 3-1 that week, pitching 26.2 innings with a 2.36 earned run average. 3 Marissa Mersch joined her teammate, posting a new career high in hits and RBI after she went 4-for-4 and drove in four RBI, as the Badgers split the doubleheader with an 8-4 victory. B1G FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK X 2 Freshman middle infielder Sara Novak had a huge impact in UW s games vs. Louisville and Northwestern March 17-22, hitting.500 with a slugging percentage and blasting the first two home runs of her career. For her impressive play on the field, Novak was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week--the second Badger to win the award this season. The second of her home runs ignited a seven-run rally in the top of the seventh inning that propelled the Badgers to a 7-5 come-from-behiond victory at Northwestern. She was also hit by a pitch four times, helping to compile an on-base percentage of.643. TOTAL TAKEOVER Senior Mary Massei s 329 career total bases set a new UW school record. Massei is poised to set new career records for hits, doubles and runs scored. The senior is tied for first with 203 career hits, second with 45 career doubles and second with 117 runs. COMEBACK KIDS The Badgers used a seven-run seventh-inning rally to take down No. 23 Northwestern on March 22 to record their first conference win of the season. After dropping two two-run games on Saturday, UW entered the final inning of its last game against the Wildcats trailling by a score of 3-0. Sara Novak led off with a home run--her second of the weekend--followed by six singles, a HBP, RBI-groundout, wildpitch and walk from the Badgers offense to complete the inning s scoring. Wisconsin fended off Northwestern s attempt at a rally after the Wildcats plated two runs in the bottom half of the inning to steal the game, 7-5. JUDI GARMAN GREATNESS Despite facing three top-10 teams in a span of 20 hours in Fullerton, Calif., at the Judi Garman Classic March 7-9, Wisconsin finished the weekend 3-2, garnering wins over No. 7 Arizona, Long Beach State and host Cal State Fullerton. The Badgers proved to be The Beach s lone loss of the weekend, as they finished the tournament with a record of 4-1. VICTORY AT LAST The Badgers picked up its first win over a ranked opponent this season in Fullerton, as the they defeated No. 7 Arizona, 7-5. Wisconsin did whatever it could to get runners on base, over and across home plate against an opponent who had won eight of its previous nine games in run-rule fashion. Cassandra Darrah picked up the win, stranding 10 U of A runners on base. UW was previously 0-4 against top-25 opponents this season, losing twice to both then-no.4 Florida and then-no. 16 Texas A&M. SENIOR LEADERS Seniors Michelle Mueller and Cassandra Darrah led the way for the Badgers at the Judi Garman Classic. Mueller was the lone Badger to post an above-.300 batting average, finishing the weekend at.308. The LaCrosse, Wis., native, also notched four RBI -- three coming in UW s 4-1 win against Cal State Fullerton -- and one double, while striking out just twice. Darrah gathered three wins on the weekend, leading the Badgers to victory against No. 7 Arizona, Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton. She had an ERA of 1.67 in 21.0 innings pitched and allowing opponents to hit just.213 in the batter s box. BIG TEN AWARD WINNERS Sophomore Taylor-Paige Stewart and freshman Chloe Miller were recognized by the Big Ten on March 3 as pitcher and freshman of the week, respectively. Stewart appeared in each of the team s five games in College Station, posting two wins in two starts against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The sophomore recorded a 1.24 earned run average for the weekend and picked up a new career high when she struck out ten Islanders batters on Friday. Miller started all five games behind the dish, gathering four hits, five RBI and two runs. It was the Badgers third-consecutive 30-win season under Healy, marking the first time ever that UW recorded three straight 30-win seasons. UW capped off its best conference season ever with a its first Big Ten tournament title, defeating Northwestern, No. 6 Michigan and Minnesota during its title run. For the first time since 2005, Wisconsin qualified for the NCAA regional where it advanced to its first ever regional title game. The Badgers broke over 30 single-season records, including the school record for runs (283), hits (458) and RBI (247). Mary Massei set new marks in seven individual categories, including batting average (.421), hits (82) and runs (51). Starting with a win against CSU-Bakersfield on March 2 and ending with a loss to Iowa on March 29, Wisconsin won a school-record 13-straight games, besting a previous mark of 11 set earlier in the season. For the first time in program history, UW s pitchers recorded three no-hitters, including a pair of no-no s by Meghan McIntosh. Wisconsin was awarded Big Ten weekly honors five times and saw five athletes earn All-Big Ten honors. Whitney Massey, Cassandra Darrah and Mary Massei were named to Great Lakes All-Region teams. Healy marked her 100th win at Wisconsin with a 12-1 victory over Indiana on April 27, Healy concluded her second season as head coach at Wisconsin in 2012 with a program-best tying 34 wins, including 13 Big Ten victories, the most ever at UW. It was the Badgers second-conscutive 30-win season under Healy, marking the first time since 2002 that UW recorded back-to-back 30-win seasons. Wisconsin s offense set school records with a.300 batting average,.385 on base percentage and.426 slugging percentage. UW recorded more runs (272), doubles (73) and RBI (230) than any other Badger softball team. Whitney Massey set a single-season record and led the Big Ten with 22 doubles, while Maria Van Abel set a freshman single-season record with 17 stolen bases. The Badgers swept Minnesota and Penn State at Goodman Diamond on their way to a school record 13-game home win streak. Wisconsin also recorded a school-best nine-game win streak from April Wisconsin finished the season with a victory over Nebraska. The win snapped Nebraska s 16-game home win streak and was UW s first ever victory over the Huskers. Four times Wisconsin was awarded by the Big Ten with weekly honors, as Cassandra Darrah was named pitcher of the week twice and Molly Spence and Stephanie Peace each earned player of the week honors. In her first season at the helm of the program, Healy led the Badgers to 30 wins for just the sixth time in school history. The team s 10-game win improvement over the 2010 season tied for the second-best in school history. Healy had three players named All-Big Ten. Karla Powell became just the third player in Badger history to be named first-team All-Big Ten and the first since Andrea Kirchberg in Mary Massei earned second team honors and Jennifer Krueger was selected for the third team. Of the Badgers 30 victories in Healy s first season, 15 were comeback wins. Wisconsin also won all 21 games in which it outhit opponents, something no other team in school history had done. Healy s first season with the Badgers produced record results. As a team, the Badgers recorded the most stolen bases in a season with 107, 37 more than the previous record. The 2007 Horizon League Coach of the Year, Healy guided the Loyola (Ill.) Ramblers to a top-four conference finish in every season she was at the helm. She has coached four NFCA All-Mideast Region players over the last four seasons, and the team set the single-season school record for batting average (.292) in Healy s team also set single-season Loyola records for stolen bases (116) and home runs (37) in A two time All-American and three-time Academic All-American as a player, Healy ranks second on the DePaul single-season chart with a.424 batting average and is the school s all-time leader with 102 stolen bases. In her senior campaign in 1999, Healy led the Blue Demons to a school-record 54 victories, an NCAA Regional Championship and the College World Series as the team wrapped up the year ranked third in the nation. She earned All-Mideast Region honors on three occasions as well. Prior to her collegiate coaching career, Healy worked for the Chicago Bulls and Chicago White Sox Academy as Director of Marketing. She also served as head softball coach at Providence High School. Healy earned her bachelor s degree in communication from DePaul in 1999 and her master s in secondary education and English from DePaul in 2007.
