The Z s will be looking to avoid their second sweep at the hands of the RedHawks in as many years, as they were swept July 20-23, 2009 at Zephyr Field. The last sweep at Bricktown Ballpark came in a rainshortened three-game set from May 19-22, New Orleans has not been swept in a four-game series in Oklahoma City since August 30-September 2, LAST GAME Doug Mathis and Michael Ballard each tossed complete games, leading Oklahoma City to a doubleheader sweep of the Zephyrs on Wednesday, 4-1 and 7-0. Mathis scattered nine hits in the opener, as the Zephyrs hit into three double plays in seven innings. The RedHawks pounced on Adalberto Mendez for seven runs in the second inning of the nightcap, and Ballard struck out eight while blanking the Z s on four hits over seven innings. THE BROOMS The Z s were swept in a doubleheader for the first time since last July 25 th, when Memphis took both games of a twin bill to complete the Zephyrs club-record 13-game losing streak. New Orleans had swept a doubleheader in Portland on May 27 th. The Z s are scheduled to play three more doubleheaders this season, including on back-to-back days in Omaha July LOSING GROUND Just two days after sitting within a game of.500 for the first time since they were on May 9 th, the Zephyrs have now dropped to 6½ games behind Oklahoma City in the division race, tying their largest deficit of the season, set during their last visit to Bricktown Ballpark on April 30 th. SEEING RED In 11 games this season vs. Oklahoma City, the Zephyrs are 4-7 while being outscored The RedHawks are batting.310 as a team, and Z s pitching has posted a 6.95 ERA. Against the rest of the league, the Zephyrs team ERA in EVERYBODY HITS Oklahoma City s seven-run second inning in game two was the highest-scoring inning for a Zephyrs opponent this season, surpassing the six-run fourth inning by Albuquerque on April 12 th. It was also the 15 th time this season the opposition batted around; opponents batted around just 11 times during the entire 2009 season. GONE STREAKING Logan Morrison saw his 22-game consecutive games on-base streak end with an 0x3 in the first game last night. The streak stands as the 11 th -longest in the PCL this season, during which time Morrison batted.349 (30x86) with 10 doubles, two triples, one homer and 14 RBI, along with 13 walks. Morrison went 2x3 in game two, boosting his batting average in June to.382 (21x55), tied for 11 th in the PCL this month. THE DISTANCE Sean West was credited with a complete game in game one last night, allowing four runs in 6.0 innings. It marks the first complete game of West s career, spanning 90 games (87 starts). The four runs were the first four he allowed in his four starts with the Z s this season, and his 2.04 ERA this month is eighth-best in the PCL. LUNA ECLIPSE After missing three games due to illness, Hector Luna played both games of the doubleheader yesterday and was the only Zephyr to collect a hit in each contest, notching a single in the opener and a double in the nightcap. Since entering play on April 30 th with a.200 batting average, Luna has gone 48x148 (.324) over his last 37 games, with 10 doubles, seven home runs and 26 RBI. AN EXTRA BAT The Z s fell to when using a designated hitter, and 0-6 when Mike Lamb fills the role. In 25 games vs. American League affiliates, Zephyrs DH s are 24x87 (.276) with one home run, 11 RBI and 11 runs scored. ROSTER MOVE Left-handed reliever Renyel Pinto was designated for assignment by the Marlins following their game Wednesday night, and right-hander Tim Wood was promoted from the Zephyrs. Wood retired all three batters he faced in the fifth inning of the second game last night. Wood is 0-1 with one save and a 5.60 ERA in 15 games over two previous stints with Florida this season. NAWLINS NOTES The Zephyrs are 0-3 so far in a stretch of 16 consecutive games against American Conference division leaders Oklahoma City (South) and Memphis and Iowa (co-leaders in the North) The Z s have lost four straight road games for the second time this season; they also dropped all four games in Tacoma from May The loss in game one last night was just the fourth defeat in 24 games this season when the Z s out hit the opposition.
