The Z s dropped 10 of 16 meetings with the Topes last season, including six of eight played at Isotopes Park, losing three out of four in each visit. Over the last five seasons, New Orleans is vs. Albuquerque, with a 5-21 record in the Duke City. LAST NIGHT In a reversal of Sunday s fortunes, the Isotopes prevailed in a back-and-forth affair, winning 7-6 on J.D. Closser s walk-off sacrifice fly in the ninth inning. After falling in an early 4-1 deficit, the Z s battled back to twice tie the score in the late innings, behind Joe Thurston s three hits and three RBI. Albuquerque was led by Corey Smith, who had three hits of his own, including a home run, and set up the game-winning rally with a leadoff single. Z s starter Tom Koehler was touched up for five runs in five innings, after allowing just two runs over his previous three starts. Steve Cishek took the loss, allowing four hits in 1.1 innings. HOUSE OF HORRORS The Zephyrs have lost 16 of 19 games at Isotopes Park since becoming a Marlins affiliate in The Marlins called Isotopes Park home for their Triple-A club from The current Z s roster has four former Topes: Dallas Trahern, Chris Aguila, Brad Davis and trainer Steven Miller. THIRSTIN FOR THURSTON Joe Thurston has successfully reached base in each of his 17 starts this season, only failing to reach base in his two pinch-hit at-bats. In his starts, Thurston is 24x67 (.358) with two home runs, seven doubles and nine walks. He leads the team with a.343 batting average, and batted.440 (11x25) with four doubles on the Zephyrs opening homestand. Thurston s three hits last night gave him his second three-hit effort of the year; Ruben Gotay (3x3 at Memphis on April 12 th ) is the only other Zephyr with a three-hit game this season. AGUILA AMMO Over his last 10 games, Chris Aguila is batting.342 (13x38) with four home runs and 13 RBI, tying him for the most RBI in the PCL over that span with Iowa s Lou Montanez and Tucson s Anthony Rizzo. Aguila now has 35 career home runs with the Zephyrs (2008, ), tying him with Jason Alfaro for fourth-most in New Orleans history. Alan Zinter ranks third with 47 career homers, with J.R. Phillips (56) owning the top spot. SURGING After collecting a season-high 18 hits in Sunday s victory, the Zephyrs tallied nine more last night, and are now batting.353 (41x116) over the first three games of the series. The Z s have risen their team batting average for the year from.196 to.225 since arriving in Albuquerque, though they still rank last in the PCL in hitting; Tacoma is 15 th with a.235 team average. IN NEED OF QUALITY Tom Koehler failed to give the Zephyrs a quality start for the first time in his four outings this season. The Z s have just five quality starts through the first 19 games. Zephyrs starters have a 5.46 ERA (56 ER / 92.1 IP), while opposing starting pitchers have posted a 3.72 ERA (40 ER / 96.2 IP) against the Z s. As a team, New Orleans is sixth in the PCL with a 4.52 ERA. THE LONG BALL Thurston s home run last night gave NOLA 16 homers over the last 11 games, the most in the PCL over that period. The Z s have hit 23 home runs this season, tied with Albuquerque for second-most in the league, behind Reno s 25. ONE IS THE LONELIEST NUMBER New Orleans played their league-leading 10 th one-run game last night, falling to 7-3 in those contests. Memphis and Nashville, both with records of 2-7, have played in nine games decided by a single run. TV DEBUT DELAYED With the New Orleans Hornets forcing at least a Game 6 in their first-round NBA Playoffs series against the Los Angeles Lakers, the Zephyrs 2011 debut on Cox Sports Television has been postponed. CST, originally scheduled to air the Zephyrs-Oklahoma City game on Thursday, will instead air the basketball game. CST will still air eight Zephyrs games in 2011, the ninth year the team has partnered with the regional cable network.
