(6th) Overall Record...Same Liberty (20-13, 3-3 ASUN) heads to Fort Myers, Fla., for a matchup of two of the top teams in the ASUN, taking on current conference leader FGCU (17-12, 3-0), Saturday and Sunday. Liberty and FGCU were predicted to finish first and second, in that order, in the preseason coaches poll. Both teams have beaten at least one nationally-ranked team this year, and both Liberty and FGCU are ranked in the top 25 in the nation in team ERA. FGCU Softball Complex was the site of the first five games of current Liberty head coach Dot Richardson s career with the Lady Flames, as Liberty competed in the 2014 FGCU Invitational. The stadium will also host the 2019 ASUN Softball Championship, May The Lady Flames trailed at Duke, 5-1, entering the seventh inning on Wednesday, before tying the game. Liberty scored five runs in the ninth inning, downing the Blue Devils, 10-6 in nine innings. It was Liberty s first extra-inning game of the season after going 3-2 in extra-inning contests in Liberty went 1-2 in its first-ever ASUN series, March at Kennesaw State, before winning a home series 2-1 over Lipscomb last weekend. Liberty (1.91 ERA) entered the week ranked 16th in the nation in team ERA, and the Lady Flames have tossed 10 shutouts. Liberty has tossed two no-hitters, including a perfect game from Julia DiMartino and a four-pitcher no-hitter versus Quinnipiac. Liberty s top win so far this year came on Feb. 15, when the Lady Flames downed then No. 19 Texas A&M 4-2. Liberty returns eight all-conference players from last year s team, led by two-time Big South Pitcher of the Year Julia DiMartino, 2019 ASUN Preseason Player of the Year Autumn Bishop and Amber Bishop. All three were named to the NFCA All-Region team each of the last two years. Autumn Bishop was named to the 2019 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 50 Watch List. DiMartino, a two-time NFCA All-Region pitcher, has been named ASUN Pitcher of the Week three times. She is 10-6 with a 1.40 ERA,.189 opponents batting average and three shutouts. Freshman Braelyn Cooper has posted a 1.09 ERA in seven appearances, while Chase Cassady is 6-1 with a 1.83 ERA and 7.1 strikeouts per seven innings. Autumn Bishop bats a team-best.393 and leads the ASUN with a.513 on base percentage. Her twin sister, Amber Bishop, hits.378 while leading the team in doubles (9), homers (6) and RBI (19). Madison Via (.329) is tied for the team lead with 10 runs scored. Sarah Robertson (.310 avg.,.450 OBP) and Alexis Erich (.407 OBP) are second and third on the team in on-base percentage, while Jaclyn Amader (.272, 18 RBI) and Kara Canetto (.296, 16 RBI) are also top hitters. The last time Liberty overcame a four-run seventh-inning deficit in a victory was April 21, 2015, when Liberty trailed 4-0 in the seventh and came back to defeat Hampton 5-4 in nine innings. - In both of Liberty s first two conference series, the Lady Flames have started Julia DiMartino in game one, with Chase Cassady starting game two and Emily Kirby starting the series finale. - Also, both of Liberty s first two conference series (at KSU, vs. Lipscomb) have seen the home team win the first two games and the visiting team salvage game three. - Amber Bishop hit her 40th career double last Tuesday against Tennessee, making Liberty the only team in NCAA Division I softball with three active players with 40+ doubles (also Autumn Bishop - 45, Sarah Robertson - 44). All three players are closing in on the program record of 52 career doubles, set by Ashley Williams ( ). - The Lady Flames held the high-powered No. 5 Tennessee Lady Vols to one run on five hits in a 1-0 loss in front of a Liberty Softball Stadium record 1,202 fans on March 19. Julia DiMartino fanned a season-high 12 batters, and Amber Bishop went 2-for-3 with a double. - Amber Bishop joined Sarah Robertson in the 200-hit club last weekend. This is the first time in program history that two active Lady Flames have had 200 or more career hits. - Liberty s 28-game home winning streak was the nation s second longest active home winning streak (Oklahoma, 41) when it was snapped last Tuesday by No. 5 Tennessee. - Liberty entered the week ranked in the top 25 nationally in ERA (16th, 1.83) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (18th ). - Liberty is 6-0 this season in run-rule games, and 2-6 in one-run ballgames. - Liberty posted program record streaks of nine consecutive shutout games (Feb. 21-March 8) and 60 straight shutout innings (Feb. 21-March 8), scoring 75 unanswered runs during that span. - On Feb. 28 against Quinnipiac, Julia DiMartino (4 IP), Elizabeth Engler (1 IP), Chase Cassady (1 IP) and Emily Kirby (1 IP) pitched the second combined no-hitter in program history, and first since April 20, 2011, when Kat Johnson and Grace Nordan no-hit Norfolk State. - Liberty defeated No. 19 Texas A&M 4-2 on Feb. 15. It was the program s ninth win over a Top 25 team. The Lady Flames are 1-5 against nationally-ranked opponents this season and 9-65 all-time. - Liberty went 2-7 against Top 25 teams last year. The team defeated No. 24/24 Hofstra and No. 11/10 South Carolina to start the 2018 NCAA Columbia Regional. Those were Liberty s first wins over nationally-ranked opponents since 2007, when the Lady Flames knocked off No. 23 Hawai i, No. 10 Baylor and No. 6 Michigan. - Jaclyn Amader (4-for-4 vs. BYU), Madison Via (4-for-4 vs. Duke), Amber Bishop (4-for-4 vs. Sacred Heart) and Autumn Bishop (4-for-4 at Duke) all have one four-hit game this season. This is the first time since 2006 (Beth Bennett, Dawn Jeffs, Jessica Moore, Sarah Swor, Ashley Williams) that four or more Liberty players have had a four-hit game. - Liberty s 20 runs scored Feb. 21 versus Delaware State were the team s most runs scored against a Division I opponent in program history. - Liberty s record has improved each season under Coach Richardson (11-46 in 2014, in 2015, in 2016, in 2017, program-record in 2018). - Current Lady Flames Deidra See (4/23/16 vs. CSU), Emily Sweat (3/25/17 vs. Radford), Jasmeen Click (4/26/17 vs. Longwood) and Jaclyn Amader (2/16/18 vs. Central Michigan) all have recorded a game-winning walk-off hit in their career. - Autumn (80th) and Amber (84th) Bishop were both named to the Softball America list of Top 100 NCAA Division I Softball Players. They are the top two rated players in the ASUN, as Lipscomb s Jordan Fortel is listed 92nd and North Florida s Navia Penrod 96th. - Five different Liberty pitchers have posted at least one win this season, the second time in the last three years that Liberty has had five different winning pitchers in one year. - Liberty s loss to Notre Dame, Feb. 8, snapped a program-record 15-regular-season-game winning streak, carried over from 2018, when the Lady Flames won their last 14 regular-season contests. - Liberty is 14-4 in the Eastern Time Zone this year, and 6-9 when playing in any other time zone. - Liberty s 49 wins in 2018 were tied with South Carolina for the seventh most in NCAA Division I softball in The only teams with more wins were Florida State (58-12), UCLA (58-7), Oklahoma (57-5), Florida (56-11), Oregon (53-10) and Washington (52-10). - Liberty s program-record 19-game winning streak was the longest active winning streak in the nation when it was snapped in the Regional Final last year. - The Lady Flames posted 19 shutouts last season, one shy of the program record of 20, set in Liberty blanked its first three opponents of the season for the first time since Liberty set or tied five program individual single-season records last year: sacrifice flies (Autumn Bishop - 7), saves (Julia DiMartino - 6), doubles (Autumn Bishop - 25), wins (DiMartino - 29), shutouts (DiMartino - 10) and strikeouts (DiMartino - 230). - Led by two-time Big South Coach of the Year Dot Richardson, the Lady Flames qualified for their first NCAA Regional Final in 2018, winning a program-record 49 games. She set program single-season records for wins, shutouts, saves and strikeouts last year. - In her last 22 appearances, beginning Feb. 10 against No. 2 Washington, DiMartino has gone 9-4 with a 1.06 ERA. She struck out double-digit batters against both Tennessee and Lipscomb, the first Lady Flame since Tiffani Smith in 2010 with back-to-back 10-strikeout games. - Chase Cassady struck out a career-high-tying 12 batters in a three-hit shutout over Sacred Heart on March 4. She allowed just one hit in a 4-1 win over Pitt on March 23, her second complete-game one hitter while at Liberty. Cassady is 6-0 with a 1.43 ERA in her last 13 appearances overall. - Emily Kirby pitched her third career complete game on March 16 at Kennesaw State, earning Liberty s first ASUN victory while allowing one earned run on five hits in the 11-3 win. - Sarah Robertson recorded her 200th career hit on March 15 at Kennesaw State, becoming the eighth player in program history with 200 career hits. She and Amber Bishop are two out of six Lady Flames all-time with 200+ hits, 100+ RBI and 100+ runs scored. - Autumn Bishop reached base safely in 18 straight games before having that streak snapped last Tuesday against Tennessee. She went on a 20-game hitting streak last year, tied for the third longest in program history. Bishop recently became the 17th player in program history, and third active Lady Flame, to score 100 or more career runs. - Autumn Bishop recorded her sixth career two-double game against Duke. She finished the 2018 season ranked second in the nation with a program-record 25 doubles. - After batting 2-for-21 as a freshman, sophomore Alexis Erich is third on the team with a.407 on base percentage. Erich was Liberty s first-ever ASUN Softball Player of the Week honoree, March 4. - Erich s two-out RBI single tied the game at 5-5 in the seventh inning at Duke, Wednesday. - Freshman Kara Canetto registered two doubles against BYU, the first player with two doubles in a season opener in program history. Her three steals last Saturday against Lipscomb were the most by a Lady Flame since Jasmeen Click stole three bases at Charleston Southern, March 18, Canetto posted two doubles at Duke, including a go-ahead two-run double in the ninth. - Madison Via leads the team with a.471 batting average in six ASUN games this season. Via batted cleanup for the first time in her Liberty career, Wednesday at Duke. Via drove in a career-high five runs on Feb. 21 versus Delaware State, the most by a Lady Flame in a single game this year. - Jaclyn Amader went 4-for-4 against BYU on Feb. 8, becoming the first player in program history with four hits in a season opener. She homered and tied a career high with four RBI on March 16 at Kennesaw State, then added a homer in a win over Lipscomb last Saturday. Amader has hit Liberty s only two homers in six games of ASUN play so far. - Jasmeen Click started all 70 games in center field in By contrast, six different Lady Flames have started in center this season (Click, Via, Hoffman, Amader, Erich, Canetto). - Click made her first two starts of the season, March 10 against Ohio and March 13 versus Pitt. In 20 plate appearances this season, she has reached base eight times (.400 OBP). - Kayla Harris, who played catcher at Liberty as a freshman in 2017, before playing the 2018 season at Northwest Florida State College, has returned to the Lady Flames this season. Harris has started 12 games at catcher this season, with Kaitlin McFarland starting 20 times behind the plate. - Freshman Braelyn Cooper, a native of nearby Amherst, Va., has posted a 1.09 ERA in 19 1/3 innings pitched this season. She picked up her first career win on March 2 against Robert Morris. - Freshman Denay Griffin recorded her first two career hits on Feb. 17, going 2-for-4 versus Rutgers. - Freshman Brittany Lew got a triple in her first career at bat, Feb. 21 against Delaware State. - Twice in their careers, (April 6, 2018 at Longwood and April 17, 2018 vs. Virginia Tech), both Amber and Autumn Bishop hit home runs in the same game. Neither instance was back-to-back. - Liberty senior Sarah Robertson was the fifth Lady Flame all-time to reach the 100-hit plateau as a sophomore. In 2018, she became the first Lady Flame to hit 10 or more homers as both a freshman and a sophomore. It marks the first time in program history that Liberty has been voted first in a conference s preseason softball poll. Also, Julia DiMartino was named ASUN Preseason Pitcher of the Year and Autumn Bishop was named ASUN Preseason Player of the Year, while Amber Bishop joined her sister and DiMartino on the preseason all-conference team. Last year, DiMartino was voted Big South Preseason Pitcher of the Year and Amber Bishop was voted Big South Preseason Player of the Year. Watch Out Autumn Bishop was named to the Top 50 Watch List for the 2019 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. She is the only ASUN player on the Top 50 Watch List. The field will be narrowed to 25 (April 24), 10 (May 8) and 3 (May 22), before the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year is announced on May 28. Liberty will play against 11 of the Top 50 Watch List players during the regular season. Regional/National Recognition Liberty s softball team was recognized both regionally and nationally last year. Associate Head Coach Paige Cassady was voted the 2018 NFCA National Assistant Coach of the Year. Additionally, Dot Richardson s staff was named the 2018 NFCA Mid-Atlantic Regional Coaching Staff of the Year. Liberty placed three players on the NFCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region team last year, in pitcher Julia DiMartino (first team), second baseman Amber Bishop (first team) and first baseman Autumn Bishop (second team). It marked the second year in a row that DiMartino and the Bishop twins were all named to the NFCA All-Region team. Then, Feb. 8 against BYU, Kara Canetto went 2-for-4 with two doubles in her career debut.
