The Lady Flames will then play four games at the Holy City Showdown, hosted by College of Charleston, Friday through Sunday at Patriots Point. While at the Holy City Showdown, Liberty will face Dartmouth (2-7), Jacksonville (10-10), South Carolina State (4-2) and Loyola Chicago (6-8). Liberty is 2-1 all-time against Dartmouth, 1-0 versus Loyola Chicago and 0-2 against Jacksonville. The team will face South Carolina and South Carolina State for the first time. Lady Flames at a Glance Liberty looks to bounce back from a four-game winless streak, as the Lady Flames competed at the Aquafina Invitational Feb The Lady Flames fell to then undefeated Kansas and No. 1/1 and defending national champion Florida on Feb. 20. Freshman Tori Zavodny leads the team with a.351 batting average and a.595 slugging percentage. Kelby Allen has hit.316, while Mickey Loveridge (.297) paces the Lady Flames with four doubles and 10 RBI. Blair Lawrence has stolen a team-best nine bases. Liberty vs. Jacksonville (Series: Jacksonville leads, 2-0) Jacksonville is off to a start, and the Dolphins have hit 21 home runs as a team. Emily Sanchez (.377) has posted five homers and 16 RBI, while Victoria Brown has recorded six home runs and 18 RBI. Brown is also 7-6 with a 3.64 ERA in the circle. Liberty vs. Loyola Chicago (Series: Liberty leads, 1-0) Loyola Chicago holds a 6-8 record entering this week, including 1-1 against Big South opponent Coastal Carolina. Hannah Jenkins has hit.368, while Brooke Wyderski leads the team with four homers and 10 RBI. Madison Hope is 4-3 with a 4.13 ERA. Liberty won the only previous meeting against Loyola Chicago, a 2-1 victory over the Ramblers on Feb. 22, 2002 in Chattanooga, Tenn. Palmetto State Points On Thursday, Liberty returns to the site of its first-ever NCAA Regional appearance. The Lady Flames competed in the Columbia Regional at Beckham Field in 2002, falling to No. 1 UCLA (3-0) and UMBC (7-1) on May 16. That is the last time that Liberty has played in Columbia, and the Lady Flames will meet the South Carolina Gamecocks for the first time, Thursday. Gardner-Webb Preseason Player of the Year Megan Baltzell, Longwood Preseason Pitcher of the Year Kiana Quolas, Coastal Carolina Weekend Recap - Florida Aquafina Invitational Liberty went 0-4 against a challenging field at the Aquafina Invitational. The Lady Flames fell to a pair of unbeaten teams on Feb. 20, in Kansas and No. 1/1, defending national champion Florida. It was the second year in a row in which the Lady Flames faced the defending national champion, meeting Oklahoma in Ball Named Big South Pitcher of the Week Redshirt junior Chandler Ball was named Big South Pitcher of the Week, Feb. 17, the first Lady Flame since Katrina Johnson (May 10, 2010) to be voted Pitcher of the Week. Ball went 2-1 with a 2.47 ERA in four appearances at the Dot Richardson Invitational. She pitched four-hit shutouts against both Cleveland State and UMass Lowell, her second and third career shutouts. Ball is the first Liberty pitcher to throw multiple shutouts in the same season since 2011, when Tiffani Smith threw three shutouts and Johnson had two. Off and Running Liberty is off and running again this season, stealing 23 bases in 13 games (1.77 spg). Junior Blair Lawrence, who swiped 20 bases last year, leads the Lady Flames with nine stolen bases, while freshman Tori Zavodny has swiped eight bags. The Lady Flames led the Big South and ranked 23rd nationally with 92 stolen bases last season. The program record of 93 was set in Good First Impression Freshman RHP Abby Tincher made her first career start Feb. 13 against Arkansas, and pitched a complete game as Liberty downed the Razorbacks, 5-2. She allowed two runs on five hits, walking six and striking out five. Tincher is the first Lady Flame to throw a complete-game victory in her first career start since Dana Wheeler pitched all seven innings in a 14-1 win over Rhode Island, March 3, Run Producing Junior Mickey Loveridge leads the Lady Flames with four doubles and 10 RBI so far this season. She has also stabilized Liberty s infield defense at the shortstop position. On Feb. 14 against South Dakota State, Loveridge celebrated her birthday by hitting a two-run inside-the-park home run during the first inning. It was the first inside-the-park home run by a Lady Flame since Katie Zavodny did so on Feb. 15, 2014 versus Norfolk State, in Dot Richardson s first collegiate coaching victory. Strong Start Freshman Tori Zavodny leads the Lady Flames in batting average (.351), triples (2), runs scored (11) and slugging percentage (.595). Senior Kelby Allen has batted.316 with three doubles and seven RBI, while Mickey Loveridge hits.297 with a team-best four doubles and 10 RBI. Freshman Alexia Taylor leads the way with a.419 on-base percentage. 3-Hit Club So far this year, Tori Zavodny has posted two three-hit games, while seniors Kelby Allen and Jamie Crisp have registered three hits in one game apiece. Allen leads current Lady Flames with seven career three-hit games. The other current Lady Flames to post a three-hit game during their time at Liberty are: Megan Robinson (3), Crisp (2), Katie Han (2), Kassidy McCoy (2) and Blair Lawrence. No current Lady Flame has registered four or more hits in a game. That s a Game-Winner Senior Jamie Crisp hit a game-winning, two-run home run on Feb. 15 in a 2-0 win over UMass Lowell. Crisp had a two-home run, five RBI game on April 22, 2014 versus ETSU, and is one of two current Lady Flames with a multiple-home run game to her credit. Senior Kelby Allen has hit two home runs in a game three times, doing so against Longwood on May 5, 2012 and April 15, 2013, and versus Gardner-Webb in the first game of the 2014 Big South Softball Championship, May 8, 2014.

New Beginnings The new Liberty Softball Stadium opens on March 19, as the Lady Flames host the Liberty Softball Classic. Liberty s first game at the new facility will be March 19 at 7:30 p.m. against Rider. The Lady Flames are scheduled to play 23 games at home this season. The Liberty Softball Stadium has 1,000 chairback seats, and the Lady Flames are scheduled to complete their full home slate at the new facility in The new stadium has home, visiting and umpires locker rooms, an expansive athletic training room, a stateof-the-art team meeting room, coaches offices, a large press box, indoor batting cages and a large scoreboard and video board, among other amenities. Finale The Lady Flames split a doubleheader against ETSU on April 24, 2014 (W, 13-4; L, 7-13) serving as Liberty s last games in the 21-year history of the Liberty Softball Field. Redshirt junior Chandler Ball ranks is tied with Susan Naylor ( ) for eighth alltime at Liberty with 244 career strikeouts. Top of the Class Senior second baseman Megan Robinson was named to the Big South All-Conference first team and Capital One Academic All-District third team last season. She became the first Academic All-American in program history. Robinson hit.303 with a team-best 10 doubles and a.526 slugging percentage to go along with eight homers and 26 RBI. Those Names Sound Familiar Freshman outfielder Tori Zavodny, a three-time all-region player at Jay M. Robinson High School, is the younger sister of Katie Zavodny, who was a 2013 NFCA All-Region outfielder and holds Liberty s records for career and single-season stolen bases. Freshman pitcher Abby Tincher, the 2014 Timesland District Pitcher of the Year is the younger sister of former Virginia Tech pitcher Angela Tincher. Angela was a three-time NFCA All-American pitcher and 2008 USA Softball National Player of the Year. Freshman Madi Clarke s father, David Clarke, played baseball at Liberty from David Clarke appeared in 133 career games, hitting.241 with 19 doubles, nine homers and 60 RBI for the Flames. Welcome Newcomers Nearly half of Liberty s 17-player roster is comprised of newcomers. The Lady Flames welcomed seven freshmen and junior college All-American, transfer Mickey Loveridge for Four newcomers (Loveridge and freshmen Madison Kotchey, Alexia Taylor and Tori Zavodny) all started in the season opener against No. 23/23 South Alabama.
