Liberty (9-10) looks to open the 2017 home schedule on a winning note. The Lady Flames will host the third annual Liberty Softball Classic, held Thursday through Saturday at Liberty Softball Stadium. Liberty welcomes Rhode Island, Saint Francis (Pa.) and North Carolina Central. Due to threatening weather in the forecast, this weekend s classic has been shifted to a Thursday through Saturday event. Saint Francis and North Carolina Central both competed in the inaugural Liberty Softball Classic in 2015, while Rhode Island played in the 2016 Liberty Softball Classic. Lady Flames at a Glance Liberty dropped all five games at the Wilson/DeMarini Classic last weekend, including a pair of contests to No. 2/3 Auburn, the host school. The Lady Flames rank second in the Big South with a.295 team batting average. Freshman Autumn Bishop, two-time Big South Freshman of the Week, leads Liberty with a.367 batting average, three triples and 17 runs scored. Bishop s twin sister, Amber, bats.344 with 12 runs, three homers and 17 RBI. Jasmeen Click hits.361 with a team-high six stolen bases. Six Liberty regulars bat.300 or better. In the circle, Julia DiMartino (2-3) leads the Big South with a 1.67 ERA while holding opponents to a.206 batting average. (4/18/15) Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium Liberty Softball Stadium Named No. 6 College Softball Stadium Through a fan vote conducted by FloSoftball.com, Liberty Softball Stadium was voted the sxith best college softball stadium in the nation in Louisiana Lafayette s Lamson Park was voted No. 1. Last year, Liberty Softball Stadium appeared second on the list, trailing only LSU s Tiger Park. Stadium Dedication Liberty officially dedicated its new facility prior to the Lady Flames doubleheader against Presbyterian on April 3, A pregame ceremony took place, as former Liberty head coach Paul Wetmore provided the invocation. Liberty President Jerry Falwell, along with current head coach Dot Richardson, threw out the ceremonial first pitches. Becki Falwell and Liberty Director of Athletics Jeff Barber were also a part of the ceremony. The highlight of the pre-game ceremony was the announcement of naming rights of the field, which will now be called Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium. Dwayne Kamphuis, a financial supporter of Liberty University and the softball program, is a legendary fast pitch softball pitcher. Kamphuis traveled the world playing in exhibition softball games as part of the renowned King and His Court team, headed up by Eddie The King Feigner. Opening Games Liberty posted a 3-2 record at the Liberty Softball Classic, March 19-21, The Lady Flames opened their new Liberty Softball Stadium with a 9-2 win over Rider on March 19, and picked up wins over Princeton and Quinnipiac as well. Firsts for All During the first game in Liberty Softball Stadium history, March 19, 2015 against Rider, Megan Robinson recorded the first hit, Madison Kotchey the first double and RBI, Mickey Loveridge the first triple, Tori Zavodny the first stolen base and home run and Chandler Ball the first pitch, strikeout and first victory. One feat that has not been obtained during the history of Liberty Softball Stadium is a grand slam. Extra, Extra Liberty downed Coastal Carolina, 5-4 in 10 innings on April 18, 2015 the first extrainning game in Liberty Softball Stadium history. At three and a half hours, it was also the longest game in stadium history. The Lady Flames are 3-2 in extra-inning contests at Liberty Softball Stadium. Lights, Camera, Action The new stadium is equipped with the latest technology, making it ready for television broadcasts. A majority of Liberty s home games are scheduled to air either as full TV broadcasts and/or as live video webstreams. With home and visting radio booths available, most home games will air on 90.9 FM The Light as well.

Last week, she batted.312 with one double, one triple and two runs scored in five games at Auburn s Wilson/DeMarini Classic. So far this season, Bishop leads Liberty in batting average (.367), on-base percentage (.441), runs (17), doubles (4), triples (3), walks (6) and hits (22). Going Yard Tori Zavodny, who led Liberty with eight homers as a freshman, hit Liberty s first home run of the 2017 season, on Feb. 11 against Chattanooga. Freshman Amber Bishop leads the team with three homers so far this season, with the most memorable one coming off of three-time NFCA All-Region pitcher Sierra Hyland of Cal Poly, Feb. 19. Blazing the Basepaths In their first three years under the direction of Head Coach Dot Richardson, the Lady Flames averaged 85 stolen bases per year. So far this year, Liberty has averaged 1.58 steals per game, good for 53rd in NCAA Division I. Jasmeen Click leads the way with six stolen bases, followed by five from Taylor Hoffman. Zavodny, a two-time all-conference selection, led the team in stolen bases each of the last two years. She is now ranked fifth in program history with 55 career steals. Pitching Shines at Citrus Classic 1 Liberty went 4-1 at the Citrus Classic 1, Feb at ESPN Wide World of Sports. The Lady Flames pitchers allowed just two earned runs all weekend, good for a 0.39 ERA and.142 opponents batting average. Julia DiMartino tossed 16 2/3 innings over three games, yielding no earned runs while striking out 16. Kenzie Friesen allowed no runs in 11 innings pitched, including a one-hit shutout on Sunday against Morgan State during which she struck out a career-high seven. Arguably Liberty s most impressive pitching performance came on Saturday, as Cassady (4 IP) and DiMartino (5.2 IP) held No. 3/3 Florida hitless through the first six innings and allowed just two runs (both unearned) in a 2-1, 10-inning setback. Round and Round We Go The Lady Flames have averaged 4.3 runs per game, and the Bishop twins, Amber and Autumn, have been key catalysts to the offensive explosion. Autumn Bishop has averaged 0.89 runs scored per game, while Amber Bishop averages 0.89 RBI per contest. Spreading the Wealth Kenzie Friesen leads the team with three wins this season, while Chase Cassady, Julia DiMartino and Elizabeth Engler have two victories apiece. This is the first time since 2007 that four Lady Flames have posted multiple wins in the same season. Engler, a freshman, became the first Liberty pitcher since Katie Phillips in 1996 to win each of her first two collegiate pitching appearances. Making Sacrifices Liberty leads the Big South with six sacrifice flies this season. On Feb. 26, the Lady Flames tied a single-game program record with two sacrifice flies in a 7-0 win over Morgan State. The Lady Flames got sac flies from Deidra See and Amber Bishop, Sunday. Holding it Down From Feb , Liberty held each of its five opponents to two runs or fewer, including No. 3/3 Florida. The last time that occurred was May 2-13, Click-ing on all Cylinders Jasmeen Click has started all 19 games in center field, the only Lady Flame to start in the same position each game this year. She has made 34 putouts, several of the highlightreel variety. Additionally, Click bats.361 with a team-high six stolen bases.

K Zone The Lady Flames set a program single-season record with 377 strikeouts in Chase Cassady averaged 8.05 strikeouts per seven innings, good for 34th in the nation. Julia DiMartino struck out 7.76 batters per game, good for 45th among NCAA Division I pitchers. DiMartino set a career high with 13 Ks against Sacred Heart, March Alexia Taylor registered 119 hits in her first two seasons as a Lady Flame.
