1 EASTERN NEW MEXICO UNIVERSITY GREYHOUNDS 2012 Weekly Press Release Eastern New Mexico University at New Mexico Highlands Eastern New Mexico University at Cameron Las Vegas, N.M. / Brandt Field Lawton, Okla. / McCord Field Greyhounds Hit the Road For Games at Highlands and Cameron On the Road Again As the road team, the Hounds have won five of seven games, with victories over Texas-Permian Basin, Abilene Christian, Southeastern Oklahoma and University of the Southwest. On the road, Eastern is out hitting the opposition, , and is led by Luis Quiñones, Alex Schultz and Derek Crenshaw, all with.429 batting averages. Andrew Martin s 2.31 earned run average leads the pitching staff, which boasts a 3.10 ERA in road games. In the Series New Mexico Highlands holds a edge in the overall series against Eastern and has won three of the five meetings this season. Last week, the Greyhounds rallied from a two-run deficit to hand the Cowboys their third loss of the season. Daniel Binz s RBI ground out in the eighth inning gave ENMU the lead for good, while Joe Jones went 3.1 innings of scoreless relief for the win, while Chris Bataska earned the save. The Hounds and Aggies have split the first 60 games of the series evenly, but Cameron is on a four-game win streak against Eastern. The Hounds last victory in the series came on February 20, 2010, when Tyler Vance allowed one earned run over five innings to pick up a 5-2 win, while Anthony Smith earned a scoreless four-inning save. Garrett Cook batted three-for-four with a triple, while Mitch Wolfe hit two-for-four with two RBIs. Up Next This weekend, the Greyhounds will continue Lone Star Conference play, with a four-game series against Cameron. Next weekend, ENMU will return to Greyhound Field, for another four-game LSC series against Abilene Christian. 2 Recaps The Greyhounds are looking to bounce back from a four-game sweep at the hands of Tarleton State, last weekend. Mitch Wolfe has hit safely in nine consecutive games, while Joe Huwer and Sam hedrick have seven-game hit streaks. Cowboys Corner Since dropping a 6-3 decision in Portales, last week, the Cowboys got right back on track, with a four-game sweep of Colorado Christian. Cameron Corner The Aggies enter the weekend on an eight-game skid after dropping series to West Texas A&M and Newman. Cameron picked up non-conference wins over the Hounds and Abilene Christian, earlier in the month. Cameron opened the season with six consecutive victories and are 8-2 at home, this season. Last season, Cameron posted a record and finished fourth in the LSC, with a mark. 4 Head Coach Chris Terry Chris Terry Head Baseball Coach (First Season at ENMU 9-11) Eastern New Mexico University Athletic Director, Dr. Jeff Geiser has announced the addition of Chris Terry to the staff as the Greyhounds new baseball coach. Terry joins the ENMU staff after a highly successful stint at Culver-Stockton College (Mo.) and succeeds Phil Clabaugh, the Greyhound coach for the last 20 years. I am very excited about the opportunity to be the next coach at Eastern New Mexico University, said Terry. Both the academic and athletic direction of the university impressed me and I am looking to move the tradition forward and into a new era. The bottom line is that he s a winner, said Geiser. He proved he can win at Culver-Stockton, where he was the head coach. We believe he is a fit for Eastern New Mexico University. We put him before a lot of people during the interview process and everyone was impressed. Our search committee did a great job, as we started with over 106 applicants and narrowed it down to three finalists. Chris Terry emerged as our best choice to lead the baseball program. Terry was the head coach at Culver-Stockton College (Mo.) since the 2007 season and has registered three seasons with at least 30 wins. In 2011, he guided the Wildcats to a record, with a 24-4 mark in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. For his efforts, Terry was selected as the HAAC Coach of the year, while the team received 11 all-conference honors. Ranked 23rd in the NAIA, CSC received a bid to the national championship tournament. Prior to his stint at Culver Stockton, Terry spent seven years at Sheldon High School in Sacramento, Calif.
