TBA All times local to site * = Western Athletic Conference game FINAL REGULAR SEASON GAMES: Seattle University does not have to worry about clinching a berth in the WAC Baseball Tournament, as the Redhawks secured their spot last weekend. They will be home for the remainder of the regular season, with the only road game taking place at Washington s Husky Ballpark Tuesday. The Redhawks will look to improve their seeding when they host Bakersfield over the weekend before closing out the regular season against Washington State. THE PREVIOUS WEEK: Although Seattle University lost two of three to Utah Valley over the weekend, the Redhawks still clinched a spot in the WAC Baseball Tournament thanks to other results within the league. Friday, Seattle U took a 7-1 lead, but gave up backto-back four-run innings to fall behind, 9-7. Seattle U scored single runs in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings, with Cullen Hendrickson s ninth-inning home run proving to be the game-winning tally. Grant Gunning faced the minimum six batters in two innings for the victory, while Connor Moore pitched a perfect ninth inning for his first save of the season. Big innings proved to be the Redhawks undoing in Saturday s doubleheader, as Seattle U lost both games, 8-2 and 9-4. Sam Finfer went 5-for-8 in the twinbill. BAKERSFIELD SCHEDULE: The start times for the Bakersfield series have been set. The games on Thursday, May 15, and Friday, May 16, will start at 6 p.m., with the series finale Saturday, May 17, beginning at 12 noon. All three games will take place at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue. Senior Day ceremonies will take place before the game Saturday, with seniors Mac Acker, Chase Fields, Cullen Hendrickson, Andrew Olson, and Ryan Somers being honored for their contributions to the Redhawk baseball program. CLOSE SHAVE: Seattle University has been involved in many exciting games this season, playing 18 one-run games, tied for 12th-most in the country. The Redhawks are 10-8 in those 18 contests, including a 1-0 victory over then-fifth ranked Washington April 22. Their most recent one-run game came last Friday at Utah Valley, as Seattle U rallied for a 10-9 victory over the Wolverines thanks to Cullen Hendrickson s ninthinning home run.

The Redhawks have a chance to sweep the season series over the Huskies for the first time since winning four games in On April 22 at Bannerwood Park, Skyler Genger and Mac Acker combined on a three-hit shutout, and the Redhawks took advantage of Washington s lone defensive mistake of the game, scoring on a passed ball in the fifth inning for a 1-0 victory. One week later at Husky Ballpark, Seattle U scored five runs in the fourth inning, capped by a bases-clearing triple from Cullen Hendrickson, for a 6-3 victory. After a rough start, Grant Gunning settled down to give the Redhawks a seven-inning start, and Andrew Olson pitched the final two innings for his first save of the season. 4 THE LEADER OF THE REDHAWKS: Donny Harrel is in his fifth season as the head coach of the Seattle University baseball program. He has led the team s continued improvement from 11 wins in 2010 to 21 wins in 2011 to 23 wins in Although the squad took a small step back in terms of victories, Harrel saw his first four-year class graduate last spring. At the University of Washington as an assistant coach for four seasons, Harrel was not only responsible for assisting in on-field coaching, but he also was responsible for the Huskies schedule and assisted with travel issues, budgeting, and helping student-athletes through the admissions process. He also oversaw the team s academic performance and was named Academic Coach of the Quarter in Winter 2007 when the team broke a 14-year record for highest cumulative grade point average. His head coaching experience comes from seven seasons at Lane Community College in Eugene, Ore., where he compiled a record and led the team to the NWAACC championship in Named NWAACC Southern Division Coach of the Year four times, he also led fundraising efforts to build a field, improve other facilities, buy equipment, and increase scholarship opportunities. COACHING: Harrel made some changes in the coaching staff after last season. Mike Nadeau was promoted into the top assistant s position, while Jeff James also moved up from director of baseball operations to assistant coach. Elliott Cribby is the new pitching coach for the Redhawks, and Cody Ryckman takes over as director of baseball operations. MOORE EARNS WAC WEEKLY HONOR: Sophomore lefthander Connor Moore was named Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 17 after his performance in the season opener Friday, Feb. 14, at UC Davis. Moore pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out six Aggie batters. It was an efficient start for Moore, as he threw just 79 pitches in the seven innings. This was the second weekly honor for a Seattle U player since joining the WAC last season, as Andrew Olson was named WAC Pitcher of the Week April 22, 2013, after throwing a complete game shutout the previous day against UT Arlington. A PLACE TO CALL HOME: The March 8 game against Cal Poly was played at Triton Field on the campus of Edmonds Community College in Lynnwood, the seventh different park in which Seattle U has played a home game since the return of the baseball program in The Redhawks returned to Triton Field for the March 28 doubleheader and the completion of the third game of the series against Texas-Pan American. DRIVE FOR FIVE: Brian Olson went 5-for-5 in Seattle U s 7-3 victory over Portland at Hilken Stadium March 26. It was the second five-hit game of his career, with the first coming on May 12, 2012, in the Redhawks 11-1 victory over Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio. That was also the only other time any Seattle U player had collected five hits in a single game since the program returned to varsity status in JOHNNY BENCH AWARD WATCH LIST: On March 6, Brian Olson was named to the official watch list for the Johnny Bench Award, given annually by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission to the top Division I collegiate catcher in the country. He is currently one of just two Redhawks to start every game so far this season, posting a.348 batting average with 63 hits, including 14 doubles, two triples, and three home runs. He has scored 26 runs and driven in 45 runs, already the second-most RBI in a single season by a Seattle U player since baseball returned as a varsity sport in Defensively, Olson has a.981 fielding percentage and has thrown out 9 would-be base stealers in 30 attempts (30%). The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists on May 15, with three finalists chosen by a national voting panel on June 3 and the award winner announced at the 17th annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 26. THE BANDIT: Senior Chase Fields has stolen 22 bases so far in 2014, the most by a Redhawk player in a single season since baseball was reinstated for the 2010 campaign. Last season, Fields had tied the modern record originally set by Doug Buser in 2010 with 14 stolen bases. Over the past two seasons, Fields has collected 36 stolen bases in 44 attempts, successful on 81.8 percent of his chances. DOUBLE TROUBLE: Seattle University was scheduled to play just two doubleheaders during the 2014 season. However, due to weather issues, the Redhawks have participated in eight doubleheaders so far this season. Seattle U has a 5-11 record in games played during doubleheaders, having been swept four times, earning the sweep once, and splitting the twinbill the other three times. Most recently, in order to avoid forecasted rain, Seattle U faced Utah Valley in a doubleheader Saturday, May 10, losing to the Wolverines in both games, 8-2 and 9-4.
