TBA All times local to site * = Western Athletic Conference game HOMESTAND CONTINUES: With the March 1 game at Portland postponed, Seattle U will continue to enjoy homefield advantage when the Redhawks host Oakland University over the weekend at Bannerwood Park. Seattle U brings a five-game winning streak into the weekend thanks to a team batting average close to.300 and an earned run average under LAST WEEKEND: Seattle University swept Bowling Green to extend its winning streak to five games, plus it gave the Redhawks their first four-game sweep over an opponent since returning to intercollegiate action in The Redhawks outscored the Falcons 26-3, collecting 44 hits while holding Bowling Green to 17 hits as Seattle U earned three shutouts over the weekend. Sean Sutton led the way with a.667 batting average (8-for-12). The offense combined for a.355 batting average, while the pitching staff produced a 0.26 earned run average. STRIKEOUT MACHINE: Sophomore Tarik Skubal earned WAC Pitcher of the Week honors this past Monday after his second straight stellar performance to start the 2016 season. Against Bowling Green on Saturday, Skubal allowed just two hits in six innings of work, striking out 10 batters without walking anybody. After the first two weekends of the college baseball season, Skubal leads the country in strikeout-to-walk ratio (23.00), is tied for the lead in earned run average (0.00), and is second in Division I in total strikeouts (23). HITTING MACHINE: Sean Sutton, a sophomore infielder, was named the WAC Hitter of the Week on Feb. 29 after batting.667 (8-for-12) against Bowling Green with two doubles, two runs scored, three RBI, and four walks. In the series opener, he was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate and followed that up by going 4-for-6 in Saturday s doubleheader. For the season, he is currently second in the WAC in batting average (.478), third in total bases (17) and fourth in hits (11). REDHAWK LEADERS: After two weekends, Sean Sutton leads the team with 11 hits and three doubles, plus he is tied with Griffin Andreychuk with six RBI apiece. Sheldon Stober has scored six runs, Michael McCann has drawn a team-high nine walks, and Dalton Hurd leads the way with four stolen bases. On the mound, Tarik Skubal leads the way with 13 innings pitched, two wins, a 0.00 ERA, 23 strikeouts, and a.119 opponent batting average.

3 SCOUTING OAKLAND: The Golden Grizzlies enter the weekend with a 3-5 overall record. They have spent the entire season along the Pacific Coast, first playing Pepperdine and Fresno State before splitting a four-game series at Portland last weekend. As a team, Oakland has compiled a.257 batting average, a.939 fielding percentage, and a 5.24 earned run average. Myles Zilinsky leads the team with a.360 batting average, while Ben Hart and Mike Brosseau have earned a team-high 11 hits apiece. Matt DiLeo is one of five Oakland players with a home run, plus he has driven in eight runs. Jake Lee is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA, allowing just five hits and two walks in nine innings of work. Joe Buchalski has struck out 13 opposing batters in 10 innings on the mound. These will be the first baseball games alltime between Seattle University and Oakland University. THE LEADER OF THE REDHAWKS: Donny Harrel is in his seventh season as the head coach of the Seattle University baseball program. Last season, Harrel took the Redhawks to the championship game of the WAC Tournament, finishing with 31 victories, the most in program history. Also, for the first time since 1980, at least one current Seattle U player was taken in the MLB Draft, as three Redhawks (Landon Cray, Will Dennis, Brian Olson) were selected. He led the team s continued improvement from 11 wins in 2010 to 21 wins in 2011 to 23 wins in Although the squad took a small step back in terms of victories in 2013, Harrel saw his first four-year class graduate that spring. In 2014, the team won 26 games, at the time the most since the program was reintstated in 2008 and the third-most all-time. Harrel earned his 100th victory as a head coach against Bakersfield May 15, At the University of Washington as an assistant coach for four seasons, Harrel was not only responsible for assisting in onfield coaching, but he also was responsible for the Huskies schedule and assisted with travel issues, budgeting, and helping student-athletes through the admissions process. He also oversaw the team s academic performance and was named Academic Coach of the Quarter in Winter 2007 when the team broke a 14-year record for highest cumulative grade point average. His head coaching experience comes from seven seasons at Lane Community College in Eugene, Ore., where he compiled a record and led the team to the NWAACC championship in Named NWAACC Southern Division Coach of the Year four times, he also led fundraising efforts to build a field, improve other facilities, buy equipment, and increase scholarship opportunities. PRESEASON EXPECTATIONS: Coming off its best season since the program s rebirth, Seattle University was picked to finish in third place in the Western Athletic Conference in voting by the league s 10 coaches. In addition, Seattle U claimed two spots on the Preseason All- WAC Team, as sophomore outfielder Dalton Hurd earned one of the at-large positions and sophomore lefthander Tarik Skubal was one of three starting pitchers named to the squad. Seattle U, coming off a second-place finish in 2015 with a 19-8 league record, received one first place vote and 57 total points in the coaches vote. Defending WAC regular season champion Grand Canyon received five first place votes and 77 total points to edge out Sacramento State, which earned four first place votes and 74 total points for second place. CSU Bakersfield, the defending WAC Tournament champion, finished in fourth place in the poll with 55 points, just ahead of New Mexico State in fifth place with 50 points and Utah Valley in sixth place with 48 points. UT Rio Grande Valley collected 31 points for seventh place, followed by Northern Colorado in eighth place with 27 points, North Dakota in ninth place with 22 points, and Chicago State in 10th place with nine points. IN THE PROS: Currently, four Seattle U baseball alumni find themselves within the systems of Major League Baseball. Eric Yardley was signed by the San Diego Padres as a free agent in July Last year, he went 2-4 with a 2.72 ERA and 16 saves for the Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League, including a selection to the All-Star Game, before finishing the year with the San Antonio Missions of the Texas League. Landon Cray was selected in the 18th round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. He immediately joined the Princeton Rays of the Appalachian League, batting.259 with two home runs and 25 RBI in 57 games played. Will Dennis was picked by the Baltimore Orioles in the 23rd round of last year s draft. He split his time between the Gulf Coast League Orioles and the Aberdeen IronBirds of the New York-Penn League, going 4-2 with a 4.07 ERA and one save. Brian Olson was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 34th round last year. After starting with the Gulf Coast League Twins, he was elevated to the Elizabethton Twins of the Appalachian League, batting.333 with two home runs and eight RBI in 15 games.
