Both solo shots were well over the wall in left-center field, one coming in the second and one coming Pavlica in the eighth. It was the first multi-homer game for a GCU batter since Chad De La Guerra homered twice vs. Texas-Pan American on April 4, Pavlica also homered to make it a three extra-base hit day. His 10 total bases was a season-high for any GCU player this season. LOPES SPLIT SERIES AT SAN JOSE Took kick off its five-game roadtrip starting on Tuesday, May 3rd, GCU split its two-game series at San Jose State. Malis marks the second GCU player to garner WAC weekly awards this season. Malis Malis'.305 batting average ranks fifth on the club while his 16 RBIs in WAC play ranks second in the conference. Malis went 6-for-13 in the series at North Dakota with his third homer of the season, five runs and five RBIs. The freshman had a seven-game hitting streak snapped in the Lopes' tie at Kansas on Tuesday. SWIPING BAGS David Walker (Class of 2015) had the last three-steal game for GCU, and it came on May 18, 2014 vs. Utah Valley. In last weekend's series vs. North Dakota alone, two individuals had three-steal performances. In Game 1, Austin Bull swiped three bases and in Game 3, Brick Paskiewicz stole three. The Lopes combined for 11 steals in the three-game set. GCU is up to second in the WAC with 57 stolen bases. GRAND CANYON NOTES WYATT'S BREAKOUT WEEKEND The reigning Arizona High School Gatorade Player of the Year, freshman utility man Tyler Wyatt burst onto the scene in GCU's threegame set at North Dakota. From the plate, Wyatt finished 7-for-13 with a pair of three-hit games. Wyatt Wyatt also tripled and drove in four runs. The freshman's average jumped from.186 to.250 over the series. On the mound, Wyatt built off of last week's solid start at North Dakota (4/24) and picked up his second straight win on the mound with a victory over Chicago State, to take the series over the CSU. BULL IN WAC FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR RACE Freshman Austin Bull played his way into the everyday second baseman role early in the season with a sure-handed glove and an impressive bat. Bull is second on the club with a.322 batting average, but boasts a more impressive.394 batting average in conference games which ranks 3rd in the WAC. Bull and UND's Miles Lewis, a redshirt freshman, Bull are the frontrunners for the WAC Freshman of the Year. BULL VS. The shortstop is also top five in the conference in on-base percentage (.449). Panaccione was held out of nine games due to Panaccione injury before returning to the field on May 4th at San Jose State IMPROVEMENT FROM PITCHING STAFF After ranking at the bottom of the conference in ERA, the 2 pitching staff has shown marked improvement as the season continues. In WAC play, 's staff ERA of 3.40 ranks first in the conference, 0.08 points ahead of Seattle U. He has two walkoff hits (3/13 vs. Cal Poly & 3/24 vs. Utah Valley) as well as a hit in the top of the ninth at UNLV on March 22 to score the go-ahead run. McDONALD ADDS TO FRESHMAN SUCCESS Lerouge Prior to the Seattle U series (4/15-17), had only gotten 11 hits (11-for-88,.125) out of the catcher position this season, by far the least of any position. Jared McDonald has started the last 12 games behind the plate and has gone 12-for-35 (.343) with eight RBIs. McDonald had seven RBIs in the last five games. McDonald

3 SCOUTING SAN JOSE STATE The Bears have found their groove late in the season, winning their last four games including the series finale against Chicago State and sweeping North Dakota in their last three games. Northern Colorado has not hit for average this year as a team, ranking ninth in the WAC (.236). Although they may not hit for average, UNC has been able to generate runs from the long ball, hitting 16 home runs, which is sixth best in conference. The Bears have received solid pitching performances of late, as Nick Tanner is the reigning WAC Pitcher of the Week. On offense, Brett Minnick leads UNC this season with 22 RBIs while Tanner has been able to get on base for the Bears with a.320 batting average. GRAND CANYON NOTES (CONT.) Head Coach HEAD COACH ANDY STANKIEWICZ Andy Stankiewicz begins his fifth season as 's head baseball coach in 2016 after becoming the fourth head coach in the history of the program in Under the guidance of Stankiewicz, the Lopes won the Western Athletic Conference regular season title in 2015 with a 19-7 record. Claiming the championship took up until the last game of the season when the Lopes topped Sacramento State on the road to prevent CSU Bakersfield and Seattle U from catching GCU in the standings. The Lopes recorded a mid-week sweep over No. 21 Texas Tech while also notching impressive wins over UNLV, Cal Poly and Kansas. Stankiewicz guided the Lopes to a top-10 team batting average in the nation at.308. In its return to Division I in 2014, placed 2nd in the WAC and went overall, including marquee wins over NCAA regional participant Kansas and Arizona, which won the 2012 College World Series. In 2013, Stankiewicz led GCU to its first appearance in the Division II Championship in Cary, N.C. after the squad boasted an impressive overall record. The Lopes won the Division II West Region Championship after earning the fourth seed in the tournament. Stankiewicz was named the ABCA/Rawlings Division II West Region Coach of the Year as his team posted its most wins since collecting 43 in He was also named Pacific West Conference Coach of the Year after GCU earned a share of the conference crown for the first time since joining in Stankiewicz was selected as an assistant coach for USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team during the summer of The squad traveled to Cuba and the Netherlands to compete in Honkbal-Haarlem Baseball Week, where it captured the bronze medal. In 2013, he served as an assistant coach for the USA Baseball U National Team Development Program. In the summer of 2014, Stankiewicz served as the manager of the USA Baseball 18U National Team and guided the squad to a gold medal at the COPABE 18U Pan American Games in La Paz, Mexico. The team went a perfect 12-0 in its summer contests. Prior to joining GCU, he held the position of minor league field coordinator for the Seattle Mariners. Before his stint with the Mariners, Stankiewicz was a member of the Arizona State baseball coaching staff from 2007 to He helped guide the Sun Devils to three Pac-10 championships and two appearances in the College World Series. Stankiewicz also brings to GCU a professional coaching background, having served as manager for the New York Yankees' NY-Penn League team in Staten Island. He guided Staten Island to the NYPL championship in Stankiewicz was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 12th round of the 1986 First-Year Player Draft. He made his Major League debut with the Yankees on April 11, Stankiewicz played in parts of seven Major League seasons, with the Yankees ( ), Houston Astros ( ), Montreal Expos ( ) and the inaugural season of the Arizona Diamondbacks in Stankiewicz was a standout infielder at Pepperdine and ranks in the school's top 10 in runs scored (172), triples (9), at bats (755), stolen bases (101) and games played (220). Wallis played at UC Irvine. RYAN CISTERNA Assistant Coach Cisterna is in his 5th season. He was drafted by three MLB clubs and, after a career at Arkansas, spent four seasons in the Angels system. The founder and developer of GCU baseball, Brazell coached the Lopes for 28 seasons, compiling a record of His teams won eight NAIA District Titles and one NAIA National Title. Brazell s clubs made four appearances at the NAIA College World Series. A member of the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Brazell was twice named the NAIA Coach of the Year and had his No. 20 uniform retired in Coach Brazell is certainly honored and respected at GCU.
