TBA All times local to site * = Western Athletic Conference game WELCOME HOME: Seattle University returns to Bannerwood Park to open the 28-game home schedule this weekend, facing the Bowling Green State Falcons of the Mid-American Conference. The Redhawks received good starting pitching last weekend, but needs to see improvement offensively and from the bullpen in order to be successful as the year goes along. LAST WEEKEND: Seattle University lost three of four games to Saint Mary s College last weekend in Moraga, Calif. After scoring four runs in the first inning of the first game of the series, including a two-run home run from Sean Sutton, his first collegiate home run, Seattle U scored just three runs over the next 28 innings as Saint Mary s came from behind to win Friday s game, 10-5, followed by a sweep of Saturday s doubleheader, 1-0 and 5-2. Sunday, Tarik Skubal struck out 13 batters, a new Seattle U single game record, and Griffin Andreychuk drove in two runs as the Redhawks broke through with a 4-1 victory. STRIKEOUT MACHINE: Sophomore Tarik Skubal picked up right where he left off last season, allowing just three hits and one walk in seven innings while striking out 13 Saint Mary s batters in Sunday s 4-1 victory. Skubal set a new Seattle U single-game record for strikeouts, breaking the previous mark of 11 strikeouts set three times last season, including by Skubal against Chicago State May 10, Skubal was named one of the Louisville Slugger National Players of the Week by Collegiate Baseball, the same organization that tabbed him as a Freshman All-American last season. WEATHER FORECAST: Friday s forecast calls for cloudy skies with periods of rain and temperatures falling into the 50s during the game. Saturday, the prediction is for rain showers early with some sunshine later in the day and temperatures in the low 50s. Occasional rain looks to continue on Sunday, with temperatures again in the low 50s. SEASON TICKETS: Fans interested in a season ticket can purchase the Redhawk Sports Pass for $50 by going to Single game general admission tickets are $7, with youth and senior citizen tickets costing $5 each. Group tickets are also available for $5 by contacting the Seattle U Athletics Ticket Office at GOSU (4678). The parent of a Rudy s Kids Club member can receive their ticket for $3. The front gate to Bannerwood Park opens one hour before first pitch of each game.

3 SCOUTING BOWLING GREEN: The Falcons split their opening weekend series, defeating East Tennessee State 7-1 on Feb. 19 before losing to ETSU on Feb. 20, The third game of the series was cancelled due to inclement weather. As a team, Bowling Green has combined for a.246 batting average, a.958 fielding percentage, and a 5.82 earned run average. Offensively, Nick Glanzman led the Falcons last weekend, going 4-for-9 (.444) with two runs scored and two RBI. C.J. Schildt picked up the victory in the season opener, allowing five hits, one walk, and one run in five innings of work, striking out four batters along the way. Devin Daugherty went the rest of the way in that game for the save, giving up just two hits in four innings while picking up four strikeouts. Last season, Bowling Green put together a overall record, including a record within the Mid-American Conference. Seattle U and Bowling Green are meeting for the first time ever. THE LEADER OF THE REDHAWKS: Donny Harrel is in his seventh season as the head coach of the Seattle University baseball program. Last season, Harrel took the Redhawks to the championship game of the WAC Tournament, finishing with 31 victories, the most in program history. Also, for the first time since 1980, at least one current Seattle U player was taken in the MLB Draft, as three Redhawks (Landon Cray, Will Dennis, Brian Olson) were selected. He led the team s continued improvement from 11 wins in 2010 to 21 wins in 2011 to 23 wins in Although the squad took a small step back in terms of victories in 2013, Harrel saw his first four-year class graduate that spring. In 2014, the team won 26 games, at the time the most since the program was reintstated in 2008 and the third-most all-time. Harrel earned his 100th victory as a head coach against Bakersfield May 15, At the University of Washington as an assistant coach for four seasons, Harrel was not only responsible for assisting in onfield coaching, but he also was responsible for the Huskies schedule and assisted with travel issues, budgeting, and helping student-athletes through the admissions process. He also oversaw the team s academic performance and was named Academic Coach of the Quarter in Winter 2007 when the team broke a 14-year record for highest cumulative grade point average. His head coaching experience comes from seven seasons at Lane Community College in Eugene, Ore., where he compiled a record and led the team to the NWAACC championship in Named NWAACC Southern Division Coach of the Year four times, he also led fundraising efforts to build a field, improve other facilities, buy equipment, and increase scholarship opportunities. PRESEASON EXPECTATIONS: Coming off its best season since the program s rebirth, Seattle University was picked to finish in third place in the Western Athletic Conference in voting by the league s 10 coaches. In addition, Seattle U claimed two spots on the Preseason All- WAC Team, as sophomore outfielder Dalton Hurd earned one of the at-large positions and sophomore lefthander Tarik Skubal was one of three starting pitchers named to the squad. Seattle U, coming off a second-place finish in 2015 with a 19-8 league record, received one first place vote and 57 total points in the coaches vote. Defending WAC regular season champion Grand Canyon received five first place votes and 77 total points to edge out Sacramento State, which earned four first place votes and 74 total points for second place. CSU Bakersfield, the defending WAC Tournament champion, finished in fourth place in the poll with 55 points, just ahead of New Mexico State in fifth place with 50 points and Utah Valley in sixth place with 48 points. UT Rio Grande Valley collected 31 points for seventh place, followed by Northern Colorado in eighth place with 27 points, North Dakota in ninth place with 22 points, and Chicago State in 10th place with nine points. IN THE PROS: Currently, four Seattle U baseball alumni find themselves within the systems of Major League Baseball. Eric Yardley was signed by the San Diego Padres as a free agent in July Last year, he went 2-4 with a 2.72 ERA and 16 saves for the Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League, including a selection to the All-Star Game, before finishing the year with the San Antonio Missions of the Texas League. Landon Cray was selected in the 18th round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. He immediately joined the Princeton Rays of the Appalachian League, batting.259 with two home runs and 25 RBI in 57 games played. Will Dennis was picked by the Baltimore Orioles in the 23rd round of last year s draft. He split his time between the Gulf Coast League Orioles and the Aberdeen IronBirds of the New York-Penn League, going 4-2 with a 4.07 ERA and one save. Brian Olson was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 34th round last year. After starting with the Gulf Coast League Twins, he was elevated to the Elizabethton Twins of the Appalachian League, batting.333 with two home runs and eight RBI in 15 games.
