1 FISH BITES The Marlins open a three-game series in San Francisco against the Giants tonight. Miami will hand the ball to lefty Caleb Smith tonight; he made his first career start against the Giants in his last outing, on June 13 at Marlins Park (ND, 6.1 ip, 8 h, 3 r, 3 er, 4 so). The Giants will counter with lefty Andrew Suárez, who was matched up with Smith for his first career start against the Marlins in the June 13 meeting (ND, 5.0 ip, 5 h, 2 r, 2 er, 2 bb, 3 so). The Marlins opened this 10-day, nine-game road trip in Baltimore (2-1) over the weekend, and finish it in Colorado (June 22-24) next weekend. YESTERDAY'S RECAP Miami couldn't complete a three-game sweep of the Orioles in Baltimore, suffering a 10-4 setback. Baltimore scored two runs each in innings 2-5 to put the game away. Justin Bour got Miami on the board with a solo home run in the fourth, and added a three-run shot in the sixth to account for all of the Marlins' runs. Bour notched just the second multi-homer game by a designated hitter in Marlins' history, joining Miguel Cabrera (June 16, 2007 at Kansas City, 2 HR). Starlin Castro added a two-hit effort, with two doubles, while Derek Dietrich led off and reached base four times (2x3, 2 bb). Merandy Gonzalez tossed 4.1 innings in relief, throwing 91 pitches, the third-most in a relief outing in Club history, behind Jason Vargas (101 on 7/8/06 at NYM) and Kevin Slowey (94 on 6/8/13 at NYM). TODAY'S TRANSACTION The Marlins today reinstated LHP Caleb Smith from the Bereavement List and optioned Merandy Gonzalez to Double-A Jacksonville. VS. SAN FRANCISCO The Marlins lead the season series, 3-1, after going 5-1 against the Giants in 2017; the 8-2 record is the club's best against any NL opponent since the start of Miami is 19-9 (.679) at AT&T Park since 2010, the best record in the Majors in that time (min. 10 GP), ahead of Pittsburgh (.600; 15-10). The all-time series is still in favor of San Francisco, however, DOUBLE THE FUN Justin Bour recorded his fifth career multi-homer game (second this season) yesterday in Baltimore, just a day after J.T. Realmuto notched his fourth career multi-homer game (second this season). Bour's was the seventh multi-hr game by a Marlins' player this season. The seven such games are tied with Arizona and Colorado for the second-most in the National League, behind Washington (8).
