PHILADELPHIA The Marlins turned the page after being shut out in the opener of the series, downing the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-0. The game was scoreless until the sixth, when Giancarlo Stanton plated Martín Prado with a single to right field and provided the only run Miami would need. However, the Fish erupted for four runs in the eighth, two of which came home on a RBI single by Adeiny Hechavarria. Ichiro Suzuki led off the frame with career hit 2,997, while Stanton drove home the first run of the inning, and Miguel Rojas plated the final run. Stanton and Rojas both paced the offense with two hits apiece. Tom Koehler tossed 6.0 shut down innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out five. ELIAS SAYS... With the game scoreless and a runner on second base in the sixth inning last night, Giancarlo Stanton delivered a twoout, RBI single as the Marlins went on to defeat the Phillies, 5-0. Entering that at-bat, Stanton was just 7x37 (.189) with runners in scoring position and two outs this season. However, he's found success in those situations recently. He was hitless in his first 19 at-bats with runners in scoring position and two outs in the 2016 campaign; since then, he is 8x19 in those situations (.421), including his clutch hit on Tuesday.
