1 FISH BITES The Miami Marlins, who saw their three-game win streak end last night, take on the Mariners in the second game of a three-game series at Safeco Field. LHP Wei-Yin Chen (1-1, 7.00) is starting for Miami; he is 3-3, 3.04 in eight career starts vs. Seattle, his last coming in Starting for Seattle is RHP Yovani Gallardo (0-1, 6.30), who is 5-1, 1.90 in eight career starts vs. the Marlins; his lone loss came in his last outing, a 6-4 Marlins win on Sept. 8, 2014 in Milwaukee. The Marlins are 0-1 on this nine-game, 11-day, cross-country trip, visiting Seattle (0-1), San Diego (April 21-23) and Philadelphia (April 25-27) before returning home to take on Pittsburgh on April 28. The Marlins wrapped up a six-game homestand Sunday with their third-straight win over the Mets. AGAINST THE MARINERS Miami leads the all-time series, 7-6, which includes a 3-4 mark at Safeco Field, including going 1-2 as the home team at Safeco Field in Before last night, the two teams hadn t played against each other since 2014, when Miami swept a three-game series at Marlins Park from April The Marlins are visiting Safeco for the first time since a three-game home series for the Marlins was relocated here, June 24-26, 2011, with the Marlins acting the home team and batting last. The Marlins are 2-1 as visitors here, taking two of three, June 16-18, LAST NIGHT AGAINST SEATTLE The Marlins fell to the Mariners, 6-1, at Safeco Field last night after Seattle took a 3-0 on two home runs in the first inning. The Marlins didn t manage a hit until the fourth inning, finishing with five hits, four of which were singles. The Marlins' lone run came in the ninth inning on Christian s third homer of the season. Tom Koehler took the loss, allowing five runs in four innings, including three home runs. SCORING CHANGE There has been a scoring change in Miami's 5-4 loss to Atlanta on April 12. The top of the eighth ended with Freddie Freeman striking out and Dansby Swanson out advancing to second. This was originally scored a strikeout + caught stealing for a double play. This is being changed to a strikeout + out advancing and no double play because Swanson s attempted advancement was made as a result of a pitch in the dirt. POW-WOW Outfielder Marcell yesterday was named National League Player of the Week, his first career weekly award, and Miami s second-consecutive winner. J.T. was the NL Player of the Week in the season s first week, giving Miami back-to-back weekly winners for the second time in their history (Ryan Dempster/Kevin Millar, July 2/9, 2001). hit.435 (10x23) with four home runs, 12 RBI and a OPS during the week. HUTCH AWARD The Hutch Award is a national award given annually here in Seattle to an active MLB player who best exemplifies the fighting spirit and competitive desire of Fred Hutchinson by persevering through adversity. Marlins reliever Dustin McGowan, who is a Type 1 diabetic, was the 2016 recipient of the Award, named for the former Major League player and manager, who died of cancer at the age of 45. McGowan, the Award s 52nd recipient, was in Seattle to accept the Award on January 25 at Safeco Field. BACK TO WHERE IT STARTED Ichiro is making his fourth trip back to Seattle since being traded to the Yankees on July 23, Over 11-plus seasons with the Mariners ( ), Ichiro appeared in 1,844 games, batting.322 with 2,533 hits, 295 doubles, 79 triples, 99 home runs, 633 RBI, and 438 stolen bases. He is batting.224 (15x67) in 20 games against his former club, including a.189 (7x37) mark in 11 games at Safeco, where he returned three times as a Yankee from Last night, Ichiro started in left field, his first time ever playing left field at Safeco Field. INTERLEAGUE HISTORY The Marlins, playing their first Interleague contests of the season, are looking to get back to.500 against American League foes, as they currently have a record after last night s loss. Last year, Miami was 6-14 against the AL, playing the Central and Tampa Bay. Miami has now dropped their last five games Interleague overall, and lost their last six on the road, back to last season. ALL-AMERICAN Marlins catcher J.T. was 0x3 last night to snap a 16-game road hitting streak in Interleague Play, which was tied for the longest active streak in the Majors, with Jacoby Ellsbury. has hit safely in 17 of his 19 games played at American League ballparks, for a.338 (26x77) mark in AL parks. The streak was the Marlins all-time longest road streak during Interleague play. Marcell also saw his 10-game hitting streak in AL parks end last night. ADDING A HITTER Marlins designated hitters have combined for a.243 (172x708) mark, with 18 home runs in 177 Interleague games all-time. Last year, Marlins' designated hitters combined for a.298 average, fifth-best among NL teams, with one home run a Giancarlo homer on June 28 at Detroit.
