1 FISH BITES Miami and Atlanta are back at it at 7:10 p.m. tonight for game three of this four-game set. Left-hander Wei-Yin Chen will climb the bump for the Marlins, looking to improve on a 1-1 record and 2.66 ERA (23.2 ip/7 er) in four career starts against the Braves (0-1, 3.78 in three starts this season). Right-hander Aaron Blair will take the ball for Atlanta; his only career start against Miami came on May 28 this season, here in Miami; he tossed 5.2 innings and allowed two runs on five hits, two walks, and a hit batter, with five strikeouts. In addition to being Star Wars Night benefitting Stand Up 2 Cancer, tonight is also the final All-Star Bobblehead giveaway of the season, with the first 5,000 fans receiving a Jim Leyland bobblehead. Leyland himself will be here to throw out tonight's ceremonial first pitch - to 1997 World Series hero Edgar Renteria - and the national anthem will be performed by South Miami K-8 Center Chorus. This is the second leg of a 10-game homestand that began with a visit from the Nationals (2-1) and wraps up next week with a three-game set against the Mets (Sept ). Following this 'stand, the Marlins will finish their 2016 regular-season schedule with a brief three-game trip to face the Nationals in the District (Sept. 30-October 2). LAST NIGHT VS. ATLANTA The Marlins dropped their second straight game to open this series against the Braves, surrendering a 2-0 lead in a 3-2 loss. Miami was quick out of the gate, as Derek Dietrich led off the first inning with a walk, Marcell Ozuna followed with a single, and Martín Prado drove them both in with a double. That, however, was the last Miami hit until the eighth inning. In the meantime, the Braves chipped away to tie it with single runs in the second and sixth innings, and then pushed the winning run across in the ninth. CLAWING HIS WAY UP THE CHART Kyle Barraclough struck out the side in the eighth inning last night, the fourth time this season he has struck out the side in order and the 14 th time he has recorded three strikeouts in an inning. He now leads all National League relievers with 110 strikeouts, and trails only Dellin Betances (121) and Andrew Miller (115) in the Majors. Since 1970, only five relievers have recorded more strikeouts during their rookie season than Barraclough. Mark Eichhorn had 166 during his 1986 rookie season with Toronto, followed by Betances (135) in 2014 with the Yankees, Craig Kimbrel (127) in 2011 with Atlanta, Steve Bedrosian (114) in 1982 with Atlanta, and Pedro Martinez (113) in 1993 with the Dodgers. Among that group, only Betances (.149) had a lower average against the Barraclough (.170). RARE CATCH J.T. Realmuto hit his 11 th home run of the season on Thursday night, surpassing his old career high of 10, set in That is tied for the 10 th -most home runs in a season by a Marlins' catcher, trailing the record of 19 set by Charles Johnson in Realmuto is currently batting.305 (145x476) when appearing as a catcher, which would set a new Club record for a backstop, surpassing Ivan Rodriguez's.300 average in Realmuto now has 265 hits, 51 doubles, and 21 home runs in his first two full seasons as a catcher (excluding stats from his 11 games in 2014). According to STATS LLC, he is just the fifth catcher in MLB history to reach those plateaus in his first two full seasons as a catcher, joining Johnny Bench from (311 hits-63 doubles-41 homers), Benito Santiago from ( ), Kenji Johjima from ( ), and Russell Martin from ( ). DEEP THREE Christian Yelich Wednesday night joined Giancarlo Stanton (27) and Marcell Ozuna (23) in reaching the 20-home run plateau this season. It marks the first time since 2010 that the Marlins had at least three players reach 20 homers; Dan Uggla (33), Stanton (22), and Hanley Ramirez (21) did it that year. It is the first time in Club history that the team's three primary outfielders all reached 20 home runs, and they are the only team with three players to hit 20+ home runs when appearing as outfielders this year (Stanton has 26 as a right fielder, one as a DH). In fact, the last time a Club had three players reach 20 home runs in a season as outfielders was 2008, when Ryan Braun (37), Mike Cameron (25), and Corey Hart (20) did it for the Brewers. LEAP YEAR Christian Yelich set a new career high for home runs this season when he hit his 10 th on July 22 against the Mets. He doubled that number Wednesday night against the Nationals when he sent his 20 th into the upper deck of right field in the seventh inning. He now has 95 RBI on the year, is looking to become just the sixth outfielder in Marlins' history to reach the 20/100 plateau. He would join Gary Sheffield (42/120 in 1996), Moises Alou (23/114 in 1997), Preston Wilson (31/121 in 2000), Miguel Cabrera (33/112 in 2004), and Giancarlo Stanton (37/102 in 2014). PLAYING TO THE COMPETITION The Marlins have gone (.500) against teams in first place in their division, based on standings on the date of game, and are just (.436) against opponents in last place in their division. The.064 difference in winning percentage between contests vs. first and last place teams is the fourth-largest mark in MLB, behind the Yankees (.126), Rockies (.095), and Twins (.067). The Braves have been a major factor in that number for the Marlins, as they are just 6-11 against Atlanta this season. - STATS LLC THAT'S ONE RARE FEAT Giancarlo Stanton's solo home run in the sixth inning Tuesday night vs. Washington pushed across Miami's only run in a 1-0 victory over the Nationals. It marked just the 10 th time in Club history that a solo home run was the difference in a 1-0 Miami win, and the third straight time the Nationals were victimized. The only other time it happened for the Marlins in the last 10 years was also on a blast by Stanton, on May 14, 2011 in D.C. Prior to that, it had not happened since Cody Ross did the damage to Washington on July 19, 2006 at Dolphin Stadium. Stanton is the only player in Club history to accomplish the feat twice. It is his 21 st start overall, 11 th at home. Did not factor in the decision in his return to the team, September 19 vs. Washington.
