1 FISH BITES Miami concludes the first leg of this seven-game homestand with the finale of a four-game set against the Pirates tonight at 7:30 p.m. The Marlins are starting LHP Wei-Yin Chen, who is making his second career start against the Bucs (1-0, 5.68). Pittsburgh is countering with RHP Juan Nicasio, who in six previous appearances (two starts) against the Fish has gone 0-1 with a 4.11 ERA. Tonight's ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by IBF lightweight champion Rances Barthelemy, and the national anthem is being performed by the Forest Glen Middle School chorus. The Fish returned home after going 3-2 on a five-game swing to Tampa Bay (2-0) and Atlanta (1-2). Miami's next road trip will see the team head out West, with three games each in Minnesota (June 7-9), Arizona (June 10-12) and San Diego (June 13-15). LAST NIGHT VS. PITTSBURGH For the second straight night, the Marlins needed only three runs to come away with a win, downing the Pittsburgh Pirates, 3-2. Miami broke a scoreless tie in the fifth with two runs, one coming home on a wild pitch and the other on an RBI groundout by Christian Yelich. Pittsburgh came back to tie the game in the seventh, but Adeiny Hechavarria came up clutch in the eighth with an RBI double to plate the game-winning run. Martín Prado and Chris Johnson led the offense with two hits each. Adam Conley started for the Fish and held the Bucs scoreless on two hits and three walks, while striking out a career-high tying nine, over 6.0 innings. David Phelps (4-3) earned the win in relief, while A.J. Ramos saved his 17 th game of the season. UP NEXT The Marlins will entertain the Mets in a three-game weekend series to close out this homestand. It is the second meeting of the season between the two teams, as Miami came away series winners at Citi Field from April 11-13, taking two of three. The Fish own a record against the Metropolitans at Marlins Park, while going all-time in South Florida. Miami trails the overall series, however, SHUTTING THE DOOR Last night, A.J. Ramos earned his 17 th save of the season, which is tied with Jeurys Familia and Jeanmar Gomez for tops in the Majors. Ramos has converted each of his last 26 save opportunities dating back to last season, marking the third-longest active streak among Major League relievers. Brad Ziegler has successfully converted each of his last 37 opportunities, while Familia has saved 33 straight. Ramos' current streak ranks as the third-longest consecutive saves streak in Club history, behind Steve Cishek's 33 and Todd Jones' 27. His 17 consecutive saves this season is the secondlongest streak to start a season in Marlins history, one shy of Juan Carlos Oviedo's (Leo Nuñez) 18 in TOP THIRD IS TOP SHELF Miami's 1-3 hitters of J.T. Realmuto, Martín Prado and Christian Yelich combined to go 4x12 last night against the Pirates. On the season, Miami's 1-3 hitters have combined to hit.304 (200x658), marking the second-best team average from those spots in the order, behind Boston (.317; 220x694). The Pirates rank third, with a team average of.296 (195x658). Ichiro leads all qualifying National League lead-off men with a.345 average (19x55), behind only George Springer (.409) and Eduardo Nuñez (.372) in the Majors. Martín Prado, Miami's usual number two hitter, is tied for fifth in the Majors and second in the NL with a.323 average. Yelich, who has seen the most time at the third spot, has also hit.317, sixth in the Majors and third in the NL. - STATS LLC STAYING LATE Adeiny Hechavarria plated the game-winning run last night with an eighth-inning double to center field off Tony Watson, improving his average in the seventh-inning-or-later to.361 (22x61). He ranks 10 th in the National League in that category, behind league leader Odubel Herrera (.404). Christian Yelich appears at fifth on the list, batting.378 (17x45). #ASG WORTHY Only one Marlins player appeared on the first National League All-Star update yesterday, and that was Giancarlo Stanton at 12 th among outfielders with 208,067 votes. Marcell Ozuna has been deserving of more consideration as he currently ranks second among all NL outfielders in average (.332), behind Ryan Braun (.342). In comparison to only center fielders, Ozuna leads the NL in average, RBI (27) and multi-hit games (19), is tied for first in triples (4) and home runs (10), and tied for second in runs scored (34). His.577 slugging percentage ranks second while his.385 on-base percentage ranks third. MAY HE EXTEND HIS HOTNESS TO JUNE Marcell Ozuna went hitless in three at-bats Tuesday night against the Pirates, ending his May with a.411 (46x112) batting average. His average was the highest of any Marlins player in the month of May, and third-highest of any month overall: Preston Wilson hit.431 in July 1999, and Hanley Ramirez hit.424 in July Ozuna's 46 hits in May were the most ever in May, and the third-most of any month, behind Chris Coghlan's 47 in August and September of LIMITING THE LONG BALL Miami's pitching staff has limited opponents to just 38 home runs this season, tied with the Cubs for the fewest allowed among any Major League staff. The Marlins staff has allowed 20 home runs at Marlins Park and 18 on the road. Adam Conley and Tom Koehler have each allowed just three home runs this season, while José Fernández has given up four. MARLINS OUTFIELD DOWNRIGHT OFFENSIVE Miami's collective group of outfielders is batting at a.298 clip this season, marking the highest average of any team in Major League Baseball, just ahead of the Pirates (.295). The Marlins outfield ranks third in MLB in hits (182), behind Colorado (188) and Pittsburgh (186), and third in home runs (27), behind the Mets (31) and Boston (29). Marcell Ozuna ranks second among all qualifying Major League outfielders in average (.332), behind Ryan Braun (.342), while Christian Yelich ranks eighth at.317. Ichiro Suzuki, who has seen action in 21 games in the outfield and doesn't have enough plate appearances to qualify, has hit.319 (23x72).
