He faced the Brewers in his third start, on August 18, allowing four runs on nine hits and a walk, with a career-high seven strikeouts, in a nodecision. Milwaukee will call on right-hander Taylor Jungmann to make his first career start against Miami. The Marlins opened this nine-game homestand with a 2-1 series win over the Mets over the weekend, and will end it with a threegame set against the Nationals next weekend. The Fish are coming off a 4-2 road trip to Washington (1-2) and Atlanta (3-0). Tonight s National Anthem will be performed by Juliet Perel, and ceremonial first pitches will be thrown out by Melissa Kriger and Larry Thornberry. VS. THE BREWERS Miami went 2-1 against Milwaukee at Miller Park from August After last night s loss, the Club needs to win the final two games of this series in order to score its first season-series win over the Brew Crew since going 5-1 in Since that campaign, the Brewers have gone against Miami, including a mark in South Florida (7-4 at Marlins Park). Milwaukee holds a slight advantage in the all-time series, 65-61, but Miami is at home in that time. TODAY S TRANSACTION The Marlins today recalled RHP Scott McGough from Triple-A New Orleans. The Club also claimed 1B/OF Tommy Medica from San Diego (will not report). To make room for Medica on the 40-man roster, the Marlins transferred RHP Henderson Alvarez to the 60-day disabled list. YESTERDAY The Marlins and Brewers were locked in a pitcher s duel over the first three frames, but Milwaukee turned that on its head in the middle frames, rallying for nine runs in a 9-1 victory. A five-run fifth proved to be the decisive frame, giving the Brew Crew a 6-0 lead. Miami scored its only run of the game in the bottom of that inning. Justin Bour and Marcell Ozuna led it off with singles, J.T. Realmuto loaded the bases with one out on another single, and Donovan Solano drove in a run on a fielder s choice ground out. BEAR MARKET Rookie reliever Kyle Barraclough has allowed just one earned run in 14.1 innings over 14 appearances since making his Major League debut on August 7. In that time, he leads the Majors (min. 14 G) in opponent batting average at.095, ahead of Tyler Clippard (.121). His 0.63 ERA is tied with Kenley Jansen for third in the Majors, behind only Tony Watson (0.00) and Kevin Jepsen (0.59). Barraclough has also struck out 19 batters in that time, which is tied with Jansen for fourth-most in the Majors, behind Andrew Miller (24), Antonio Bastardo (22), and Jeurys Familia (20). Barraclough has not been scored on in his last eight outings, a span of 6.2 innings; he has allowed one hit, six walks, and a.059 (17 ab) in that time, with 10 strikeouts. THE GOLD STANDARD With defensive metrics now a component of the Rawlings Gold Glove Award, the Marlins have two of the highest rated position players not just in the National League, but in MLB. In terms of DEF (defensive runs above average), Adeiny Hechavarria (19.9) leads all National League position players and ranks second in the Majors to only Kevin Kiermaier (27.3). Hechavarria leads all NL shortstops in UZR (ultimate zone rating) at 14.1, ahead of Andrelton Simmons (10.8) and Nick Ahmed (10.5). Dee Gordon, his partner up the middle, leads NL second basemen in DEF (7.1) and UZR (5.3). - Fangraphs BACK ON TRACK Miami had a spate of eight errors in a four-game span from August 18-21, dropping the Club s overall fielding percentage from.987, which ranked fourth in the NL, to.985, which ranked seventh. Since August 22, however, the Marlins have committed just two errors, the fewest in the Majors, and posted a.997 fielding percentage, which leads the Majors. Their overall fielding percentage for the season is back up to.987, which ranks fifth in the NL, behind the Dodgers (.989), San Francisco (.988), Arizona (.988), and Cincinnati (.987). KEEP ON WALKING Martin Prado notched his third walk-off RBI of the season on Sunday against the Mets, his second such RBI of the weekend series. Prado moved into a three-way tie for second place on the Club s list of most walk-off RBI in a season with his sac fly in the ninth inning (see full list at right). Also, he became the first player in the Majors to have two walk-off RBI in a threegame series since Jose Lobaton of the Rays on August 16 & 18, 2013 vs. Toronto (Starlin Castro had two in a four-game set vs. the Reds on June 13 & 14 this season). Prado is the second Marlins player ever to accomplish the feat in a three-game set, joining Dave Berg on August 9 & 10, 1999 vs. San Francisco. - Elias and Stats LLC FAMILIARITY BREEDS SUCCESS The Marlins earned their eighth walk-off win of the season on Sunday. They rank tied with Baltimore and the Dodgers for sixth in the Majors in walk-off wins, behind the Cubs (12), the White Sox (10), the Angels (9), Pittsburgh (9), and St. Louis (9). Miami, which tied San Diego for the Major League lead in walk-off wins in 2014 (11), now has 19 such victories since the start of last season. That is tied with the Cubs, Pittsburgh, the White Sox, and the Angels for the most in the Majors. - Stats LLC IN A PINCH MARLINS VS.
