LAST NIGHT AGAINST SAN DIEGO The Marlins had a slow start to the night, but rallied to tie the game in the sixth and then erupted for four runs in the 11th for a 6-3 win over San Diego. Giancarlo Stanton gave Miami an early lead with a solo shot to left in the second inning. Martín Prado tied the game in the sixth with a solo home run of his own. The game remained tied until the 11th when Justin Bour, who led off the inning with a pinch-hit single, came all the way across to score on an infield single by Dee Gordon due to two errors by the Padres. Stanton capped the scoring with his second home run of the night. Dan Straily did not earn a decision despite holding the Padres to two runs on four hits (one home run) with a careerhigh 14 strikeouts. Brad Ziegler (1-0) picked up the win with a scoreless inning in relief, and AJ Ramos converted his third save opportunity of the season. Only one other pitcher in Marlins history had a game in which he struck out at least 14 batters and did not issue any bases on ball. José Fernández did it twice, once in 2014 and once in Fernández was the winning pitcher in both of those games, which both finished with a 1-0 score. 14 K'S Dan Straily recorded a new career high with 14 strikeouts last night. His previous high was 11, which he did twice, last on May 25, 2016 at Los Angeles-NL. Last night marked the 10th time in club history a Marlins pitcher recorded 14-or-more strikeouts in a game. The last Marlins pitcher to record such a game was José Fernández, who struck out 14 batters on September 9, 2016 vs. the Dodgers. Straily also became the fourth Marlins pitcher to record 14-plus strikeouts and not earn a decision; the others are: José Fernández (7/18/16 at PHI; 14 K), Aníbal Sánchez (4/28/12 vs. ARI; 14 K), and A.J. Burnett (7/6/05 vs. MIL; 14 K). - STATS, LLC SAVING THEIR BEST FOR LAST Last night marked the 11th time in Marlins history that the club scored four or more runs in an extra inning. The most runs scored in an extra inning in Club history was seven, done on June 10, 2002 at Kansas City in the tope of the 14th inning. - Elias GONE-CARLO Giancarlo Stanton drove in the first run of the game with a solo home run in the second inning, and the final runs of the game with a two-run homer in the 11th inning, marking his 20th career multi-home run game and second of this season (also, April 12 vs. ATL).
