1 FISH BITES The Marlins look to complete a four-game sweep of the Reds today when the sides clash at 1:10 p.m. Miami is sending right-hander Dan Straily (7-6, 3.84) to the mound for just his second career start against the Reds (L, 4.0 ip, 6 h, 2 r, 2 er, bb, 3 so, hr on Aug. 6, 2013 with Oakland). The Reds will counter with right-hander Luis Castillo (1-4, 4.05), who is making his first career start against the Fish. Today's starters were traded for one another in a four-player deal between Miami and Cincinnati on January 19. The Marlins are coming off a six-game road trip (4-2) through Cincinnati (2-1) and Texas (2-1). They have the third-best record in the National League since May 28, going (.582), behind only the Dodgers (43-11/.796) and Washington (31-22;.585). The only other visitor on this homestand will be Washington, which comes to town tomorrow-wednesday. Today's ceremonial first pitches will be thrown out by Fish Family member Colin Kastelic, Steven Day of Franklin Dodd Communications, and Nelson Arauz of the World Baseball Foundation, and the National Anthem will be performed by Ariel Rose. LAST NIGHT VS. CINCINNATI The Marlins picked up their third win of this series, the second in-a-row in comeback fashion, with a 7-3 victory over the Reds. Cincinnati scored a run in the first inning, but three-run rallies in the third and fifth put Miami ahead for good. A three-run homer for Christian Yelich provided all the pop in the third. In the fifth, a two-run double by Giancarlo Stanton and an RBI-double by Marcell Ozuna pushed Miami's lead to 6-2. A two-out RBI-single by J.T. Realmuto in the seventh capped the scoring for the Fish. Adam Conley tossed his second straight gem, recording season highs in strikeouts (seven) and innings pitched (7.2) to pick up his fourth win. VS. THE REDS The Marlins and the Reds conclude their 2017 season series today. Miami went 2-1 at Great American Ball Park last weekend. The Fish are all-time against them, in Miami (12-8 at Marlins Park). Miami has won eight straight vs. Cincinnati at Marlins Park, marking the longest winning streak at home by Miami in series history. SWEEP INFO The Marlins today are looking to complete the 11th four-game sweep in club history, their first since sweeping the Dodgers in Los Angeles from April 25-28, It would be just their fourth four-game sweep since 2010, having also done so from July 7-10, 2011 vs. Houston and May 13-16, 2010 vs. the Mets. The Marlins have never swept the Reds in a four-game set; they have swept Cincinnati in a series five times overall, four times in three-game sets and once in a two-game set. Miami's last sweep of the Reds was in a three-game series here at Marlins Park last season, from July Prior to last season, Miami had not swept a series from the Redlegs since UP NEXT The Marlins close out this homestand with a three-game series against the Nationals, beginning tomorrow night. The season series between the NL East rivals is currently split, 3-3. Miami took two-of-three here at Marlins Park from June 19-21, which was the last home-series victory for the Fish prior to securing a win against the Reds with last night's victory. Miami was just vs. the Nats in 2013 & 2014, but the series has leveled out since then, as the Nationals hold a slim advantage since the start of Miami still leads the all-time series between the Nationals/Expos franchise, , with a lead since the club moved to DC in Miami is when defending its home field (26-24 at Marlins Park; since 2005). MARLINS PARK STREAKING The Marlins have won eight-straight home games against the Reds, their longest-ever home winning streak against Cincinnati. It is also a new franchise record for the longest winning streak against one opponent at Marlins Park, surpassing five-game streaks against Philadelphia (September 7, 2016 to July 17, 2017), the Mets (July 31, 2013-May 7, 2014), and San Diego (June 29, 2013-April 5, 2014)., this current run at home against Cincy is the fifth-longest against an opponent in Club history. The longest was a 14-game streak against Philadelphia (4/3/03 to 7/29/04), followed by an 11-game streak against Houston (8/25/95 to 5/9/97), and 10-game streaks against the Nationals (7/2/08 to 7/1/09) and Rockies (8/8/95 to 8/15/96). NIGHT OWLS For the most part, the Marlins have waited until the late innings to pounce on Cincinnati during their current eight-game winning streak against the Redlegs at Marlins Park. During the streak, Miami has outscored the Reds, 40-4, from the fifth inning onward (74 percent of their 54 overall runs during the streak), and Miami's relievers have posted a 1.40 ERA (25.2 ip/4 er), compared to a 7.18 mark (26.1/21) for the Reds. - Stats LLC THE CHASE IS ON Giancarlo Stanton hit his 33rd home run of the season Wednesday night; he is tied with Aaron Judge for the MLB lead in homers. He enters today's game with 98 career homer runs at Marlins Park. Wednesday's long ball marked his 12th homer of July, extending his club record for this month and tying the club record for any month, which Dan Uggla set in May of 2008 and Stanton tied in May of 2012 and June of He has four multi-homer games in July, the first player in Club history to accomplish that feat in any month. Stanton is the first player in the Majors with 12-or-more home runs in July since Mike Trout hit 12 in Through 102 team games, Stanton is on pace for 52 home runs, which would easily surpass the previous single-season Club record of 42, set by Gary Sheffield in Prior to this season, the earliest a Marlins' player had reached 30 home runs was in team game 110, done by Mike Lowell in 2003 (July 27). - Stats LLC CATCH A SOUVENIR Marlins' catcher J.T. Realmuto hit his 12th home run of the season Friday night, setting a new career high, which he had set last season with 11. He is tied with John Buck (2012) for the ninth-most homers by a backstop in Club history, behind all-time leader Charles Johnson (19 in 1997). He ranks eighth in the Majors (fourth in NL) in home runs by a catcher this season. Friday night's long ball was Realmuto's seventh go-ahead RBI of the year, and his third game-winning RBI. It was also his eighth career go-ahead homer, his fifth this season and third against the Reds. TORONTO (W/OAK) BIRTHPLACE REDLANDS, CA BORN DECEMBER 1, 1988 OPENING DAY AGE 28 CONTRACT STATUS SIGNED THROUGH 2017 ACQUIRED FROM CINCINNATI IN A FOUR-PLAYER TRADE ON JANUARY 19, 2017 Straily gets the call for Miami today as the club looks to complete its first four-game series sweep of the season, its first overall since April 25-28, 2016 at the Dodgers. Has lost two consecutive starts, for just the second time this season. Other two-start skid was from April 29 vs. Pittsburgh to May 5 at Tampa Bay. Over last two starts, has allowed 10 earned runs on 19 hits (three home runs) and four walks (two intentional) in 9.0 innings (10.00 ERA), with nine strikeouts and a.452 (19x42) average against. That is more earned runs than he allowed over his previous six starts, when he went 3-0 with a 2.21 ERA (36.2 ip/9 er), allowing 29 hits (seven home runs) and three walks, with 26 strikeouts and a.220 (29x132) average against. His only career start against Cincinnati came with Oakland on August 6, 2013, when he took a loss at GABP after allowing two runs on six hits (one home run) and a walk over 4.0 innings, with three strikeouts. In his start on July 19 vs. Philadelphia, he issued three walks. Snapped a streak of nine consecutive starts with one or zero walks, which tied Justin Nicolino (2016) for the second-longest such streak within one season in Club history, trailing Ricky Nolasco, who did so in his final 12 starts of 2008 (overall streak reached 13). Since May 9 (min. 15 GS), his 3.54 ERA and his walks per 9.0 innings (1.67) each rank 4th in the Majors (3rd in NL). Prior to May 9, had posted a 4.94 walks/9.0 rate in first six starts of season. In his start on June 16 at Atlanta, he struck out eight without walking a batter. He is the only Marlins pitcher to accomplish that feat this season, doing it twice (also, April 22 at San Diego). He is also the first Marlins pitcher to have eight-plus strikeouts and no walks more than once in a season since José Fernández did it four times last year. Only five pitchers (six times) have done it three-or-more times in a season: Anibal Sanchez (4 in 2011), Fernández (4 in 2016; 3 in 2014), Kevin Brown (4 in 1996), Javier Vazquez (3 in 2011), and Ricky Nolasco (3 in 2008). In his start on May 31 vs. Philadelphia, tossed 113 pitches over 6.2 innings, 81 of which were strikes. It was the highest strike count of his career, and his best strike percentage (71.7) in his 24 career games with 100-plus pitches. Was forced to leave start vs. Houston on May 15 for precautionary reasons after being struck on the right forearm by a line drive off the bat of Evan Gattis leading off the fifth inning. Remained in the game to retire the side and dropped down a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the frame before departing. Took loss in first start of season, April 5 at Washington, surrendering five runs on six hits (one home run) and two walks over 3.1 innings. The 3.1 innings tied secondshortest start of career (third time), behind a 2.2-inning affair on August 29, 2016 at Angels. Earned first win with Miami in Opening Night start at Marlins Park on April 11 against Atlanta. Allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits (one home run) and two walks with five strikeouts over 5.0 innings.
