2 DAN STRAILY HT 6'1" WT 220 BATS RIGHT THROWS RIGHT MLB DEBUT AUGUST 3, 2012 VS. TORONTO (W/OAK) BIRTHPLACE REDLANDS, CA BORN DECEMBER 1, 1988 OPENING DAY AGE 28 CONTRACT STATUS SIGNED THROUGH 2017 ACQUIRED FROM CINCINNATI IN A FOUR-PLAYER TRADE ON JANUARY 19, 2017 Straily will be in search of his first win since April 11 (his second start of the season) when he climbs the bump tonight for the ninth time on the campaign. He is coming off two straight no-decisions, in which he allowed just one run over 12.0 combined innings. Was forced to leave his last start, on May 15 vs. Houston, for precautionary reasons after being struck on the right forearm by a line drive off the bat of Evan Gattis leading off the fifth inning. Remained in the game to retire the side and dropped down a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the frame before departing. Has held opponents to a.160 (24x150) batting average this season, which leads the National League and ranks second in the Majors, behind Ervin Santana (.144). Only one of his three career appearances against the Dodgers was a start. First two outings, both in 2014 at Wrigley Field, were relief appearances, in which he allowed six runs over 2.1 innings. Third meeting was not until last season, when he started for the Reds on May 25 here at Dodger Stadium and struck out 11 over 7.0 innings, but allowed three runs and took a 3-1 loss. Two of his three defeats this season have come on the road, where he is 0-2 with a 6.46 ERA (15.1/11). Saddled with losses on April 5 at Washington, his season/marlins debut, and May 4 at Tampa Bay. His third road venture was one of the best outings of his career, however, as he held the Padres to two runs on four hits (one home run) over 7.0 innings on April 22 at Petco Park, setting a new career high with 14 strikeouts in the no-decision. He became just the second Marlins starter ever to record 14-or-more strikeouts and not issue a single walk: José Fernández did it twice, once in 2014 and once in Took loss in first start of season, April 5 at Washington, surrendering five runs on six hits (one home run) and two walks over 3.1 innings. The 3.1 innings tied secondshortest start of career (third time), behind a 2.2-inning affair on August 29, 2016 at Angels. Earned first win with Miami in Opening Night start at Marlins Park on April 11 against Atlanta. Allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits (one home run) and two walks with five strikeouts over 5.0 innings. On April 16 vs. Mets, didn t allow a single hit over 5.1 inning outing, marking longest no-hit appearance of career. Previously the deepest he had taken a no-hitter was 4.0 innings, August 7, 2016 at Pittsburgh. Walked season-high five and struck out a season high-tying five. Marlins pitchers didn t allow a hit until there were two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Took loss on April 29 vs. Pittsburgh. Allowed three runs on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Dropped second-straight start, May 4 at Tampa Bay, giving up four runs on three hits with a season-high-tying five walks over 5.0 innings. Last season, was unanimous winner of Johnny Vander Meer Award as the Reds Most Outstanding Pitcher, as voted by Cincinnati chapter of BBWAA, after going 14-8 with 3.76 ERA (191.1/80) in 34 appearances (31 starts). Claimed off waivers from San Diego three days before Opening Day and led Reds staff in wins, innings pitched, strikeouts (162) and quality starts (20).
