1 FISH BITES The Marlins tonight open a three-game series against the Rangers, their first visit here since Tonight is also the fourth game of a six-game road trip for the Marlins, as they spent the weekend in Cincinnati, taking two of three. Starting for Miami tonight is left-hander Adam Conley (2-3, 6.75), who is facing the Rangers for the first time. The Rangers send lefty Martin Perez (5-7, 4.72), who will be facing the Marlins for the first time in his career. Following this series, the Marlins return home for a seven-game homestand starting Thursday, with the Reds coming in for four games, July 27-30, and the Nationals for three, July 31-Aug. 2. On this trip, the Fish travel to Cincinnati (2-1) and Texas (3g, July 24-26). TODAY'S TRANSACTIONS The Marlins today optioned RHP Tom Koehler to Triple-A New Orleans, and recalled LHP Hunter Cervenka (#30) from NOLA. Cervenka went 1-3 with a 4.50 ERA (34.0 ip/17 er) in 36 games with NOLA this season. YESTERDAY AT CINCINNATI The Marlins saw their five game road win streak come to an end with a 6-3 loss in Cincinnati. Tom Koehler (1-5) started and took the loss, allowing six runs, five earned, in 5.2 innings. After the Reds went up, 1-0, in the second inning, A.J. tied it with a solo homer in the fourth, but the Reds scored two in the fifth to take the lead for good. The Reds hit three homers on the day, while, who was 2x4 with a double in addition to his homer, had both of Miami s extra-base hits. VS. THE RANGERS The Marlins are making their first visit to Arlington since 2014, when the teams had a home-and-home series, splitting both two-game series, June in Arlington and Aug in Miami. All-time, the Marlins are 8-11 vs. the Rangers, but have gone 5-3 in Arlington. The Fish dropped their last contest there, snapping a three-game win streak in Arlington. INTERLEAGUE NOTES The Marlins are 7-10 in Interleague Play this season, winning their last three games, 3-4 on the road. The team dropped two of three in Seattle, April 17-19, and split two, two-game series in Tampa (May 3-4) and Oakland (May 23-24). Alltime, the Marlins have gone (.496) in Interleague, while going on the road. Miami has not has a winning season vs. the AL since 2014, going 13-7, their only winning season in the past eight years. EXTRA HITTER The Marlins designated hitters have combined for a.267 (8x30) batting average with one home run and four RBI in seven road contests this season. The lone home run was hit by Giancarlo, April 19 in Seattle. Last year, Marlins designated hitters combined to hit.298 (14x47), their most hits ever in a seaon and their highest average since.308 in All-time, Marlins designated hitters have combined for a.245 average with 19 home runs, 95 RBI and a.694 OPS. ON THE ROAD AGAIN The Fish saw their season-long five-game road win streak snapped yesterday, but have won three straight road series and eight of their last 11 road games. The team has a.282 batting average in road games, tops in the NL, led by J.T., who is hitting.369 (62x168), which leads National League, Last season, the Marlins hit.275 on the road, their second-best road average in team history (.276 in 2005), while led the NL with a.352 road batting average. Dee currently owns an 11-game road hitting streak, the third-longest active streak in the Majors, while has a nine-game road hitting streak, the fifth-longest active streak. FIREWORKS IN JULY Marlins hitters have found success in the month of July. Giancarlo leads the Majors with nine home runs this month, while Marcell ranks tied for second in the National League in RBI (17), behind Nolan Arenado (25). J.T. is batting.373 (22x59) this month, the ninth-best average in the NL. WILD BOUR Justin, 1x4 yesterday, has reached safely in each of his last 18 starts, hitting.310 (22x71) with 10 walks over his past 19 games. The only game in his last 19 that he didn t reach was when he struck out in a pinch-hit appearance on July 16. has reached safely in 23 straight road contests, the longest active streak in the NL. THE BIG THREE Giancarlo (30 home runs), Marcell (23 HR) and Justin (21) have combined for 74 home runs, the Majors top home run-hitting trio so far this season. THE CHASE IS ON Giancarlo hit his 30th home run Wednesday night, extending his National League lead over Cody Bellinger (27) and Joey Votto (26).
