THE METS Christian Yelich hit a game-tying home run in the sixth inning, but it wasn't enough as the Marlins fell to the Mets, 5-3. The Mets went up 1-0 after the first and built a 2-0 lead after four frames. THE PRINCE AND HIS CASTLE In his last home start, July 8 vs. Cincinnati, José Fernández improved to 25-1 with a 1.43 earned run average in 36 career home starts. Fernandez's ERA is the second-lowest through his first 36 home starts among pitchers who debuted in the earned-run era (1912 in the National League and 1913 in the American League). The Red Sox Rube Foster had a 1.36 earned-run average over his first 36 career home starts ( ). - Elias - KID KKKKKKKKKK In 18 starts this season, José Fernández has recorded 10+ strikeouts seven times. He is tied with Max Scherzer and David Price for third most such games by a starter this season, behind Clayton Kershaw (9) and Stephen Strasburg (8). SWEET SWINGIN' LEFTY Christian Yelich has been putting together his finest season since coming to the Majors, batting.320 with 10 home runs, 54 RBI, a.396 on-base percentage and.499 slugging percentage. His average, HR, OBP and SLG are all career-bests, while his RBI total has tied a career best, last done in He needs four doubles to have 30 in each of the last three seasons and become the sixth Marlins player in Franchise history to have three-or-more consecutive seasons of 30+ doubles. Additionally, Ramos earned a save in seven of 10 team games from July 5-19, marking the second time he accomplished the feat this season (also, April 24-May 5). He is 6-0 at home in that time with a 0.38 ERA (48.0 ip/2 er). His home ERA since May 9 leads the Majors and his six wins are tied for first. Fernández will be facing New York-NL for the third time this season, second at home. In his last home start vs. the Mets, June 5, he struck out a career-high tying 14 batters, while limiting the Mets to no runs on four hits and no walks. Marked 14 th career 10+ strikeout game, fifth this season, passing Ricky Nolasco for most in Club history. He has had two more double-digit strikeout games since then. On the season, he has seven double-digit strikeout games, tying him with David Price and Max Scherzer for third-most double-digit strikeout games in the Majors this season. Clayton Kershaw has nine of these games and Stephen Strasburg has eight. His 11 wins are one away from tying his career high of 12, done in In his first start after the All-Star break, July 18 at Philadelphia, Fernández became the third-fastest pitcher (by games started), behind Dwight Gooden (61) and Yu Darvish (62), since 1900 to reach 500 career strikeouts as a starter, according to Elias. However, he was the fastest starting pitcher to 500 strikeouts by inning, doing so in his 400 th career inning. Also in that game, he tied his career-high for strikeouts with 14 (also 6/5/16 vs. NYM, 4/22/14 at ATL and 8/2/13 vs. CLE) and allowed two runs on four hits (one home run) and two walks. In his last home start on July 8 vs. Cincinnati, Fernández improved to 25-1 with a 1.43 earned-run average in 36 career home starts by allowing one unearned run in the Marlins 3-1 win over the Reds. Fernández s ERA is the second-lowest through his first 36 home starts among pitchers who debuted in the earned-run era (1912 in the NL and 1913 in the AL). The Red Sox s Rube Foster had a 1.36 earned-run average over his first 36 career home starts ( ). - Elias On July 2 at Atlanta, Fernández allowed a career-high nine runs (six earned). He was the first Major League pitcher since Josh Beckett on 5/7/10 to strike out at least eight batters while allowing at least nine runs in a game. In his start on June 11 at Arizona, had an eight-game winning streak snapped. It was the longest of his career and the longest by a Marlins starter since Dontrelle Willis won eight straight from May 25-July 13, It fell one shy of tying the Club record. Additionally, the eight wins came in consecutive starts, equaling a Club record done by Chris Hammond in It was the longest consecutive-start win streak in the Majors since Chris Sale won 10 straight starts from October 2, 2015-May 19, In research provided by Elias, Fernández was 8-0 with a 1.38 ERA and 78 strikeouts over eight starts from April 28-June 5, becoming just third pitcher to go 8-0 with an ERA that low and that many strikeouts over an eight-start span (since Major Leagues started keeping track of earned runs just over 100 years ago). Randy Johnson went 8-0 with a 1.10 ERA and 86 strikeouts over eight starts spanning the 1999 and 2000 seasons; and Clayton Kershaw went 8-0 with a 0.74 ERA and 80 strikeouts over an eight-start stretch in GAME HIGHS 2016 CAREER CG: LOW-HIT CG: SHO: MOST IP: 7.0 8x; last, 7/8 vs. CIN 8.0 5x; last, 4/29/14 vs. ATL MOST K: 14 2x; last, 7/18 vs. NYM 14 4x; last, 7/18/16 vs. NYM MOST BB: 4 2x; last. 5/9 vs. MIL 4 7x; last, 5/9/16 vs. MIL WIN STREAK: 8 4/28 to 6/5 8 4/28/16 to 6/5/16 LOSS STREAK: x; last, 10/1/15 to 4/12/16 MISC STATS RUNS ALLOWED BY INNING Total RUN SUPPORT DURING APPEARANCES 0R 1R 2R 3R 4R 5R 6R 7R 8R 9R 10+R AVG JOSÉ URENA PITCHER HT / WT 6 2 / 200 B / T R / R MLB DEBUT: 4/7/13 at NYM BORN: 7/31/92 IN SANTA CLARA, CUBA OPENING DAY AGE: 23 CONTRACT STATUS: SIGNED THROUGH 2016 ACQUIRED: SELECTED IN FIRST ROUND (14 TH OVERALL) OF 2011 FIRST- YEAR PLAYER DRAFT 2016 DAY-BY-DAY/CAREER INFO SEASON/CAREER SPLITS 2016 vs. Left: /47x202, 5 HR vs. Right: /35x200, 3 HR Home: , 1.53 (64.2/11) Road: , 3.86 (49.0/21) Day: , 3.20 (39.1/14) Night: , 2.18 (74.1/18) CAREER vs. Left: /169x732, 14 HR vs. Right: /121x718, 12 HR Home: , 1.43 (232.1/37) Road: , 3.80 (170.1/72) Day: , 3.08 (111.0/38) Night: , 2.19 (291.2/71) DATE OPP DEC IP H R ER BB-I SO HR TP/ST SCORE 4/6 DET L(0-1) /72 L, /54 W,2-1 4/18 WSH W(1-1) /64 W,6-1 L(1-2) /67 L,2-7 W(2-2) /59 W,5-3 APRIL ERA 5/4 ARI W(3-2) /60 W,4-3 5/9 MIL W(4-2) /68 W,4-1 W(5-2) /75 W,5-1 5/21 WSH W(6-2) /61 W,3-2 W(7-2) /72 W,9-1 5/31 PIT W(8-2) /62 W,3-1 MAY ERA 6/5 NYM W(9-2) /73 W,1-0 L(9-3) /60 L,3-5 6/21 ATL /61 L,2-3 6/26 CHC W(10-3) /71 W,6-1 JUNE ERA L (10-4) /66 L, 1-9 7/8 CIN W(11-4) /64 W,3-1 FIRST HALF ERA /65 *W, 3-2 JULY ERA * - extra-inning game CAREER PITCHING (LAST TWO SEASONS) YEAR W-L ERA G GS IP H R ER BB SO HR Totals CAREER BATTING (LAST TWO SEASONS) YEAR AVG AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SH BB SO Totals OPPONENT INFO VS.
