He is being opposed by Shelby Miller, who in four previous starts against the Fish has gone 1-1 with a 3.98 ERA. Today s ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Tani Loskobe, while the National Anthem will be performed by Colleen Brennan. The first 5,000 kids entering Marlins Park today, ages 12 and under, will receive a Giancarlo Stanton Growth Chart presented by FOX Sports Florida. Miami will continue the homestand on Monday with the first of four against the Arizona Diamondbacks, then will entertain the Baltimore Orioles for a three-game weekend set starting May 18. The Fish returned home off a 4-6 road swing to Washington (1-2), San Francisco (2-2) and Los Angeles (1-2). VS. THE BRAVES This three-game set marks the third meeting between the division rivals in 2015, with Miami trailing the series, 2-6. The Marlins were swept in a three-game series to open the season and took two of three at Turner Field from April Miami is looking to snap a five-game home losing skid to Atlanta. The last time the Marlins dropped five-or-more games at home to the Braves was from September 19, 2012 to July 9, 2013, when they were winless in six straight. Miami trails the series in South Florida, 84-99, as well as the overall series, UP NEXT Following today s game, the Marlins will welcome the Arizona Diamondbacks for a four-game series beginning tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. Miami came away with a 4-3 series win in 2014, taking three of four from the D-backs in South Florida from August The Marlins scored three-or-fewer runs in five of the seven games during the series, coming away with wins in two of those contests. Christian Yelich has posted a.400 average (12x30) career average vs. Arizona, tallying at least one hit in each of his seven games, while Donovan Solano has hit at a.382 clip (13x34) in 10 games. Martin Prado owns a lifetime.373 mark (31x83) in 23 games against the D-backs, including a current nine-game hitting streak, and Giancarlo Stanton has slugged 10 home runs in 29 games. Stanton s 10 home runs are the most of any non- National League West opponent since TODAY S TRANSACTIONS The Marlins today returned from rehab and reinstated RHP Henderson Alvarez from the 15-day disabled list and designated RHP Nick Masset for assignment. Alvarez was placed on the DL with right shoulder inflammation on April 13. LAST NIGHT The Marlins fell to the Atlanta Braves, 5-3, dropping their fifth straight to the Braves at home this season. Atlanta struck for all five of its runs in the second inning, with four coming around on Jace Peterson s grand slam. Dee Gordon drove in Miami s first run in the bottom of the second with a groundout to second. Giancarlo Stanton connected for his third home run in two games, leading off the third, his 11 th of the season. Gordon drove in the Marlins final run with a single to center in the ninth. Adeiny Hechavarria paced the offense with a 3x4 afternoon, and Jeff Baker added two. Mat Latos (1-4) was handed the loss, surrendering five runs on eight hits (one home run) with a strikeout over 3.0+ innings. Tom Koehler provided 3.0 innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts in his first appearance of the season out of the bullpen. HITS KEEP COMING Since 1914, Dee Gordon has tied the fourth-highest hit total (62) through the first 34 individual games played to start a season, trailing Hank Aaron (67), Rod Carew (63) and George Sisler (63). GORDON S FLASHY STYLE Dee Gordon leads the Majors with his.425 average and 62 hits. He has hit safely in 29 of his 34 games played this season, and has hit in 16 of his last 18 games. Over the 18-game stretch, he has hit at a.494 clip (38x77) and recorded multiple hits in 12 of the 18 games. Gordon has 18 multi-hit games this year, tied with Matt Carpenter for the MLB lead; 11 of those efforts have been 3+ hit games, which leads the Majors. CATCHING FIRE Giancarlo Stanton didn t record his first home run of the season until April 16 at Citi Field. Since that date, he has recorded 11 home runs, tied for the Major League lead with Bryce Harper. He ranks second in that time with 29 RBI, behind Harper s 30. On the season, Stanton leads the Majors in RBI with 36, in front of Harper (33), Adrian Gonzalez (32) and Paul Goldschmidt (32). HECH OF A PLAYER Known for his stellar defense, Adeiny Hechavarria is now doing it with his bat, ranking near the top of various offensive categories among shortstops. Among MLB shortstops, he ranks second in hits (44) to Marcus Semien (46), third in RBI (19) and average (.319), and tied for third in runs scored (20). Among players with more than 20 starts batting in the eighth hole, he leads the Majors in average (.364), hits (43) and RBI (19). He was placed on the DL on April 13, following a start against Tampa Bay, with right shoulder inflammation. Last season, went 12-7 with a 2.65 ERA in 30 starts. His ERA ranked as the sixth-lowest among National League starters, and fifth-lowest in Marlins history. Additionally, his 1.60 ERA at home led the Majors and was the third-lowest in Club history. Alvarez is making his eighth career start against the Braves, his second this season. In his last two starts against them, he has tossed at least 7.0 innings and allowed two runs in each outing (1-1, 2.40 ERA). In his five starts prior to that, he did not pitch more than 6.0 innings in any outing, and allowed at least three runs in every start (0-2, 6.67 ERA). Made one rehab start for Single-A Jupiter, on May 12 vs. Lakeland. Tossed 6.0 shutout innings, allowing four hits and striking out five.
