The Marlins concluded their home slate yesterday with a 6-4 win vs. the Phillies, wrapping up a record at home, their first winning record at Marlins Park. Starting Game 1 today is right-hander Jarred Cosart (4-3, 2.29), who is 0-1, 3.65 in two starts vs. the Nationals. Left-hander Andrew Heaney (0-3, 5.33) gets the starts in the nightcap for Miami, making his first start against the Nationals. This is the first time since 2009 that the Marlins close out a season on the road. The 2009 campaign ended with a six-game trip to Atlanta and Philadelphia. ABOUT YESTERDAY Miami beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-4, in its final home game of the season. Tom Koehler picked up his 10 th win of the season, working 7.0 innings with four runs on eight hits, one walk and seven strikeouts. The Marlins trailed 4-2 entering the seventh inning, but scored four times in the bottom of the frame for the win. Casey McGehee, who finished 2x3 with three RBI, hit a two-run double to break a 4-4 tie. Christian Yelich (1x4) and Donovan Solano (2x4), batting 1-2 in the lineup, each scored two runs in the game, while Garrett Jones (3x4, RBI) and Adeiny Hechavarria (3x4) also had three hits. Steve Cishek pitched a perfect ninth, with two strikeouts, for his 39 th save. VS. THE NATIONALS The Marlins trail the season series, 5-10, going 3-7 at home and 2-3 at Nationals Park. The Marlins have dropped their last five overall to the Nats, all in Miami, including a four-game sweep Sept , but have won their last two contests here in DC. All-time, the Marlins are vs. the Expos/Nationals franchise, vs. the Nationals, in DC and at Nationals Park. This is the third consecutive season the teams will play a doubleheader in DC; they split twin bills on Sept. 22 last season and Aug. 3, The teams have played five doubleheaders all-time, two in DC, with Miami sweeping two, the Nationals sweeping one, and the teams splitting two, both in DC. SERIES INFO DOUBLE TROUBLE Miami has played 40 doubleheaders in Club history, going in those games. The Fish have swept five sets and been swept 10 times. The last time the Marlins swept a doubleheader was May 25, 2008 vs. San Francisco. SCORING CHANGE Major League Baseball yesterday announced a scoring change in Miami s home game on September 3 vs. the Mets. Casey McGehee was awarded an infield hit and RBI in the bottom of the third inning. The play, with two outs and a runner on third base, was originally ruled a missed-catch error on Mets first baseman Lucas Duda. SOME RELIEF The Marlins bullpen owns a 3.26 ERA on the season, currently ranking sixth in the NL. That would rank as the Marlins all-time best ERA by their bullpen. The team s bullpen has a 2.49 ERA since the All-Star break, best in the Majors. Last year, the team s bullpen combined for a 3.42 ERA, matching the 2011 bullpen. The Marlins pen finished with a 2.81 ERA at home, which ranks third-best in the Majors, behind San Diego (2.16) and Seattle (2.35); the 2.81 home ERA by TEAM VS. TEAM STATS the bullpen is the best-ever relief ERA at home in Club history, ahead of the 2011 bullpen, which had a 2.87 mark. ERROR FREE Casey McGehee had two chances at third base yesterday, fielding them both successfully, to finish the season without making an error at home (179 total chances). He is the first Marlins third baseman to go an entire season without making an error at home, and he joins Juan Pierre (232 TC in 2003) and Juan Encarnacion (159 TC in 2003) as the only Marlins position players to finish a season without making an error at home. 10-GAME WINNERS Tom Koehler picked up his 10 th win of the season yesterday, joining Henderson Alvarez (12) and Mike Dunn (10) to give the Marlins three 10-game winners for the seventh time in Franchise history. The last time Miami had three-ormore 10-game winners in the same season was 2009, when Ricky Nolasco (14), Anibal Sanchez (13), Chris Volstad (12) and Josh Johnson (11) each went over the mark. The Club record for most pitchers with 10+ wins was 2006, when five Marlins were at or over 10 W s: Johnson (12), Scott Olsen (12), Dontrelle Willis (12), Nolasco (11) and Sanchez (10). HOME IMPROVEMENTS The Marlins went at home, their first winning record at Marlins Park since its opening in 2012 and their first winning record at home since going in The 42 home wins are the most by the Marlins since winning 43 in This is the 14 th time the Fish have finished over.500 at home in Franchise history. Miami s current 3.39 ERA at home is the third-best in home ERA Club history, behind a 2.99 ERA in 1996 and a 3.17 ERA in BASEBALL S BRIGHTEST UNDER 23 Christian Yelich leads all Major League players under 23 years of age in runs (93), hits (164) and stolen bases (21). He ranks second in doubles (30) and RBI (54) to Nick Castellanos of Detroit, who has 31 and 63, respectively. In addition, Yelich leads all Major League left fielders in fielding percentage at.996 (261 TC/1 E). - STATS LLC BETTER LATE THAN NEVER The Marlins scored four runs in the seventh inning last night to turn a 4-2 deficit into a 6-4 lead. The Fish lead the National League and are fourth in MLB with 240 runs in the seventh inning or later. Minnesota leads baseball with 254, followed by Detroit and Toronto, with 242 each.
