This is the second stop on a three-city, 11-game road trip; the Marlins were 1-3 in a four-game series in Atlanta, and will head to New York following this series, for a three-game set after an offday tomorrow. Today marks the 19 th game of a stretch that sees Miami play 28-of-40 on the road, and the seventh game of a stretch of 22-of-28 on the road due to a pair of 11-game road trips. After this trip, the team returns home for a six-game homestand against the Dodgers (August 10-12) and Phillies (Aug ), before heading back on the road for an 11-game trip to Colorado (Aug ), Arizona (Aug ) and Los Angeles (Aug ). LAST NIGHT The Marlins fell to the Nationals, 10-7, in DC. Miami lost leads of 2-0, 3-1, and 6-4, before the Nationals scored six unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth off Mike Dunn. Mark Buehrle allowed four runs in six innings, leaving with a 6-4 lead. Bryan Petersen was 3x5 in the leadoff spot, Jose Reyes was 3x4, with three runs, extending his hit streak to 23 games, and Carlos Lee was 2x4 with two RBI. The Marlins were 5x16 with runners in scoring position, however, leaving nine on base. The Marlins pitching staff allowed four home runs and the six runs in the eighth inning matched the most runs allowed in an inning by the Marlins this season. AGAINST THE NATIONALS The Marlins and Nats are playing a four-game series in three days, which included a doubleheader Friday. The Marlins are 1-2 in the series, 6-6 vs. the Nationals this year. They are 1-4 in DC, dropping two on April 20-21, before a rainout on April 22. The Marlins are all-time vs. the Nationals/Expos, and vs. the Nationals. In DC, the Marlins have gone 39-28, including a mark at Nationals Park Their win in game two Friday night snapped a four-game losing streak to the Nationals, as the Fish have dropped five of the last six to the Nationals. SERIES INFO UP NEXT The Marlins travel to New York tonight, and are off tomorrow, before opening up a three-game series vs. the Mets in New York on Tuesday. The Marlins are 2-4 vs. the Mets this season, 0-3 in New York. They lost all three game in the Big Apple from April 24-26, and have dropped five straight in New York, including their last two games of Miami is all-time vs. the Mets, in New York and at Citi Field. The Marlins have dropped seven of their last eight at Citi Field. JOSE S STREAKS Jose Reyes currently owns a career-best 23-game hitting streak, the longest active streak in the Majors, and tied for the longest in the Majors this season; Robinson Cano had a 23-game streak June 24-July 20. In this current streak, which started on July 13 in the first game after the All-Star break, Reyes is batting 35x93 (.376) with eight doubles, two triples, four home runs, eight RBI and 16 runs scored. The last Marlin with a hit streak of 20+ games was Emilio Bonifacio (26 games; June 28-July 28, 2011). Reyes hit streak is now the fourth-longest streak in Marlins history. 2 MARLINS STARTING PITCHER RICKY NOLASCO 2012: 8-10, 4.90 CAREER: 72-61, 4.55 Height: 6-0 Bats: Right Weight: 224 Throws: Right Acquired: From Cubs along with RHP Sergio Mitre and LHP Renyel Pinto in exchange for OF Juan Pierre on December 7, Nolasco will take the mound for the Marlins this afternoon in the finale of this four-game set against Washington at Nationals Park. He is coming off back-toback losses to the Braves, on July 25 at Marlins Park and July 31 at Turner Field. He is 3-0 with a 2.08 ERA (21.2 IP/5 ER) in four career starts at Nationals Park. Nolasco s.692 career winning percentage (9-4) against Washington is his best mark against an NL East opponent, just ahead of a.667 (8-4) against Philadelphia. He has averaged 10.5 strikeouts per 9.0 innings over his last seven starts against the Nationals, with a high of 11 on May 6, 2011 at Sun Life Stadium, and eight strikeouts on three other occasions. He has allowed at least four runs in each of his last four starts. He has taken the loss in all of those outings, tying a career-long losing streak (third time). His ERA over that span is 7.48 (21.2/18). The seven strikeouts in his start on July 20 at Pittsburgh were a season high. LeBlanc pitched in relief for his first 11 appearances after his call-up on July 1. In the start, on August 1 at Atlanta, he went 4.1 innings and allowed one run on five hits and a walk, with three strikeouts. He did not factor in the decision, a 4-2 victory for the Fish. He has gone 1-1 with a 1.15 ERA (15.2 IP/2 ER) as a reliever for Miami. He went 5-5 with a 3.74 ERA (98.2/41) in 16 starts for triple-a New Orleans prior to his callup, with 91 strikeouts to 20 walks.
