1 FISH BITES MIAMI MARLINS (43-65) RHP Jose Ureña (1-5, 4.37) at ATLANTA BRAVES (48-60) RHP Matt Wisler (5-2, 4.44) TURNER FIELD, ATLANTA, GA Thursday, August 6, :10 P.M. The Marlins and Braves open a four-game weekend series tonight at 7:10 p.m. The Fish will send right-hander Jose Ureña to the mound for the start; his only career appearance against the Braves was his Major League debut on April 14 this season, when he tossed 1.0 inning out of the bullpen, allowing one hit. Atlanta will counter with righty Matt Wisler, who is making his first career appearance against Miami. The Marlins are coming off a 2-7 homestand against Washington (1-2), San Diego (1-2), and the Mets (0-3). Following this brief road trip, Miami has an off-day on Monday before a two-game homestand against Boston (August 11-12). VS. THE BRAVES The Marlins begin a brief four-game road trip tonight in Atlanta, their second visit to Turner Field this season. The Braves lead the season series, 7-2, with both of Miami s wins coming at the Ted, where the Club went 2-1 from April Since snapping a three-game losing streak at Turner Field on September 1, 2013, the Marlins have gone 8-6 here. The Braves lead the all-time series, , and have a lead in Atlanta (98-60 at Turner Field). ROAD FIELD ADVANTAGE According to Stats LLC, the road team in this series is 8-1 (.889) this season, marking the best road-team record in a series in 2015, ahead of an 11-2 (.846) mark for the road squad in the Arizona-San Francisco season series. The thirdbest mark is 8-3 (.727) in the Yankees-Boston series, followed by 7-3 (.700) marks for Cubs-Milwaukee and Cincinnati- Milwaukee. LAST NIGHT The Marlins mounted a furious ninth-inning rally against the Mets, but fell short in an 8-6 loss. Miami trailed, 8-0, with one out in the bottom of the ninth when Justin Bour doubled in Derek Dietrich to break the ice for Miami. Singles by Martin Prado and Ichiro Suzuki followed to make it an 8-2 game. After a pitching change and a strikeout, Jeff Mathis walked to load the bases and Miguel Rojas cleared them with a pinch-hit double. Another pitching change was followed by an RBI-single for Dee Gordon to make the score 8-6. Dietrich followed with his second hit of the frame to put runners on the corners, but Christian Yelich grounded out to first to end the game. DOUBLE D DOUBLING DOWN Derek Dietrich batted twice in the ninth inning last night, and singled in both at-bats. It marked the second time this season that Dietrich has recorded two hits in the same inning, also doing so in the first on June 16 vs. the Yankees. He is the second player in Club history to record two hits in the same inning twice in the a season; Benito Santiago was the first (1993). Dietrich is the second player in the Majors this season to accomplish the feat, joining Chase Headley. SO CLOSE FROM SO FAR Miami entered the bottom of the ninth facing an 8-0 deficit last night at Marlins Park against the Mets, but rallied for six runs and ended the game with the tying runs on base. It was the first time that Miami has scored six-or-more runs in the ninth inning since August 22, 2014, when it pushed six runs across in the top of the frame in a 13-5 win at Colorado. The only other time in Club history that the Marlins did it in the bottom of the ninth was on May 13, 2012 against the Mets, when Giancarlo Stanton hit a walk-off grand slam in an 8-4 win. Miami has now scored six-or-more runs in the ninth inning 11 times in Club history; the only other game which it did so and lost was in a 7-6 defeat at Cincinnati on May 14, BIG INNINGS Miami recorded its fourth inning with six-or-more runs last night, scoring six times in the bottom of the ninth. The Marlins are tied with Milwaukee for the third-most such innings in the NL this season, behind Washington and Chicago (five each). It is the most such innings for Miami since also doing it four times in 2012; the Marlins did it three times last season, and not at all in The Fish are all-time in games in which they score six-or-more runs in an inning. Additionally, the Marlins have had two eight-run innings this season, on July 11 vs. Cincinnati (bottom 7 th ) and June 16 vs. the Yankees (bottom 1 st ). the only other time in Club history that Miami had two innings with eight-or-more runs in one regular season was 1995, when it scored eight in the top of the fifth on September 17 at Colorado, and eight in the top of the eighth on July 17 at San Francisco. FLASH JR LIGHTING UP THE EAST Dee Gordon has a.419 (18x43) career average in 13 games at Turner Field, his highest career mark at any road venue (min. 10 G). Overall, his.358 average in 25 career games against the Braves is the third-highest mark among active players since 2011 (min. 70 PA), behind Chris Coghlan (.375) and Cesar Hernandez (.367). Gordon also has an 11-game hitting streak vs. Atlanta, during which he is batting.391 (18x46) with a double and seven RBI. That is tied with an active 11-game run against the Mets for his longest career streak against an opponent. The success vs. the Braves is part of a trend for Gordon, who has a.393 (59x150) average against the NL East this season. That would be the second-best season average against the division since 2005 (min. 100 AB), trailing only Randy Winn, who hit.402 against the East for the Giants in Stats LLC A CHANCE TO BOUNCE BACK Miami starting pitchers have allowed five-or-more runs and 12-or-more hits four times in the last six games, after having allowed those numbers just three times in the previous 44 games, according to Stats LLC. After posting a 3.28 ERA in July, which ranked seventh among NL rotations, the Marlins starters have a 6.46 ERA so far in August, 14 th in the NL, ahead of only Arizona (6.53). Turner Field could be a good place for the rotation to turn things around, however. Since snapping a three-game losing streak here on September 1, 2013, the rotation has posted a 2.08 ERA in 14 games at the Ted, allowing more than two earned runs in a game just once, holding the Braves to a.226 average, and striking out 8.1 batters per 9.0 innings. Miami s pitching staff as a whole has a 2.21 ERA here since that date; only St. Louis (2.08) has a better team ERA at Turner Field in that time.
