1 FISH BITES The Marlins continue a six-game homestand with the second of three games against the Philadelphia Phillies tonight at 7:10 p.m. LHP Jarlin García is making his first career start and 11th appearance against Philadelphia, posting a 1-0 record and 8.18 ERA (11.0 ip/10 er). Philadelphia is countering with Zach Eflin, who is making his second career start against Miami. He suffered a loss on July 27, 2016 at Marlins Park, allowing seven runs on nine hits and four walks, with one strikeout, over 5.0 innings. The Marlins opened the current homestand by taking two of three games from the Colorado Rockies. It marked Miami's second consecutive series win, and with last night's win, Miami has won five of its last six games. Miami is off Thursday before the schedule continues with a three-game series in Cincinnati, followed by a three-game set at Wrigley against the Cubs. LAST NIGHT'S RECAP Miami extended its winning streak to three games with an 8-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies touched Marlins starter Dan Straily for two second-inning runs to take an early lead. Miami, however, cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the second, then erupted for four runs in the third to take a 5-2 lead. In the third, Derek Dietrich doubled in one run, and Brian Anderson doubled in two. The Phillies rallied to cut the Marlins lead to one in the fourth, but Miami extended its lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth and two runs in the seventh. Anderson led the offense with a 3x4 night, including a double, home run and four RBI. Starlin Castro finished 3x3 with two runs scored, two doubles, and one RBI. In his first start of the season, Straily allowed four runs, six hits, and four walks, with one strikeout, over 4.0 frames. Merandy Gonzalez picked up his second win with 2.0 scoreless innings out of the pen. vs. THE PHILLIES This is the second meeting between the two teams this season, with the season series knotted at 2-2. In the first meeting between these two clubs, Philadelphia took two of three from April 5-8 at Citizens Bank Park. The Marlins are all-time against the Phils, dropping each of the last nine season series against Philadelphia (went 10-8 in 2008). Miami is all time at home, including a mark at Marlins Park. The last time the Marlins took a season series at home was in 2014 (6-3). However, they have split two of the last three (5-5 in both 2017 and 2015). GARCÍA'S GRACE Over his first three Major League starts, Jarlin García has combined to allow just five hits and one run in 17.0 IP. Is first pitcher in Club history with four-or-fewer hits and one-or-zero runs in each of his first three career starts; first pitcher in MLB to do so since fellow southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez in Elias Sports Bureau Five hits combined over his first three career starts is lowest total in Club history, besting Brad Hand (2011), Josh Beckett (2001), Josh Johnson (2005-'06), and Vladimir Nunez (1999), who all had nine. García is first starter in MLB to have five-or-fewer combined hits over first three career starts since Cory Rasmus in 2014, and first lefty since Tom Fordham in Elias Had not allowed a run over his first 14.0 innings as a starter, a streak snapped by Kiké Hernández s fourth-inning HR in his last start, April 23 at Dodger Stadium. In his first career start, tossed 6.0 no-hit innings April 11 against the Mets at Marlins Park, becoming the only pitcher in Marlins history to go as many as 6.0 innings in his starting debut without allowing a hit (Elias) and the first Major League pitcher to throw 6.0-or-more no-hit innings in his first career start since Ross Stripling of the Dodgers on April 18, 2016 at San Francisco (7.1 ip). In his second start, held the Yankees hitless until a one-out double in the fifth, finishing with 5.0 scoreless innings and just the one hit allowed. Snapped a streak of 38 consecutive batters faced without allowing a hit. According to Elias, his 10.0 IP hitless streak to begin his career as a starting pitcher tied the Modern Era (since 1900) record (also the St. Louis Browns Bobo Holloman, 10.0 IP in May 1953, which included a 9.0-inning no-hitter in his first career start on 5/6/53 vs. Philadelphia. Holloman had made four prior career relief appearances). Additionally according to Elias, Garcia s 10.0-inning hitless streak was tied for the second-longest in Marlins history (Armando Benitez- 11.0IP in Aug.-Sept. 2004; Al Leiter-10.0IP in May 1996; Kevin Brown-10.0IP in June '97; and Anibal Sanchez-10.0IP in Sept. '06). Overall this season, is holding hitters to a.114 (10x88) average with a 1.00 ERA (27.0 IP/3 ER) in five appearances (three starts). LOCKED DOWN Marlins catchers have combined to throw out 12 runners this season, by far the most in the Majors, ahead of Baltimore, Detroit, and Oakland, who all have eight. Since April 8, the Marlins have allowed only four stolen bases, while throwing out nine. Marlins backstops have thrown out 52.2% of attempted runners this season, the highest percentage of any team, ahead of Milwaukee (43.7) and Detroit (40.0). Since 2016, Miami catchers own the third-best caught stealing percentage (34.7) in the Majors, behind Cleveland (39.3), Boston (36.3), and the Angels (35.5). BASEBALL FOR KIDS The Miami Marlins announced today that they have partnered with J.P.
