The midweek contest between the Warhawks and the Spartans will be the first-ever meeting on the diamond. The Warhawks are 1-1 all-time against current members of the Big Ten Conference... ULM defeated Iowa, 9-1, at Warhawk Field on Feb. 26, The Warhawks fell to Nebraska, 4-1, on Feb. 23, 2002 at the Lake Area Classic in Lake Charles, La. ULM is coming off of a 2-1 weekend as it rallied for a pair of wins in the final two games against Southeastern Louisiana.. In the series finale, Chet Simoneaux blasted a pair of homers to help the Warhawks claim a 3-2 victory and win their second home series of the season... Dalton Herrington drove in the game-winning run as Dalton Todd scored on Herrington s RBI single. Alex Hermeling recorded his third quality start of the season (in as many starts) as he surrendered two runs on three hits in 6.0 innings... The right-hander walked two and struck out a career-best six... Carey Taylor (1-0) closed the book on the Lions as he tossed three scoreless and hitless frames, allowing just one walk with three punchouts. On Saturday, the Warhawks evened the weekend series at 1-1 as they scored the final six runs of the game to claim a 6-5 win over Southeastern Louisiana. In the sixth inning, Justin Stawychny hit his second homer of the season... His three-run homer closed the gap to two runs (5-3)... Kodie Tidwell drove in the game-tying and game-winning runs with a two-out, two-rbi single through the left side in the bottom of the eighth inning. Chad Miller earned the win and improved to 2-0 on the season as he tossed 5.1 innings of shutout baseball... In his relief appearance, he surrendered just two hits and struck out six. ULM dropped the weekend opener to Southeastern Louisiana, Keelin Rasch and Chet Simoneaux lead the Warhawks in the opener... (Mar. 2, 2014) -- ULM picked up its second home series win of the season as it defeated Southeastern Louisiana 3-2 Sunday afternoon en route to a 2-1 series win. ULM jumped on the scoreboard first as Chet Simoneaux belted a homer to left center in the home half of the second inning. Simoneaux s second homer of the season gave the Warhawks a 1-0 lead. Warhawk starter Alex Hermeling breezed through the first three innings, but ran into trouble in the fourth. The Lions were able to load the bases with two outs in the frame, but a ground ball got the Warhawks out of the jam and maintain the 1-0 lead. Southeastern was able to take a 2-1 lead as it scored a single run in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth Brooks Morse homered to left center to even the game at 1-1. In the sixth, Brett Hoffman tallied a RBI single through the left side allowing Kyle Cedotal to cross home plate. The Warhawks evened the game at 2-2 as Chet Simoneaux tallied his second homer of the game over the wall in left center. He is the first ULM player to accomplish the feat at Warhawk Field since Joey Rapp belted two homers against Tulane on Feb. 21, ULM regained the lead in the home half of the seventh as Dalton Herrington singled through the left side and picked up a RBI as Dalton Todd crossed the plate. Baeckel spent the fall of 2012 at Seminole Community College in Sanford, Fla., before transferring to Northeastern JC where he posted a.337 batting average with six homers to go along with 43 runs and 34 RBI. Baeckel, a native of Loveland, Colo., prepped at Mountain View High School. JJ Bissell, a native of Denver, Colo., led all Division I Junior College players with 15 home runs in 2013, while ranking 25th-nationally with 56 RBI... The catcher/first baseman will complete his second season at Northeastern Junior College this upcoming spring... Bissell prepped at Fossill Ridge High School and originally began his collegiate career at Texas Tech. David Burkhalter, a senior at Ruston High School, posted an 11-1 record with a 0.93 ERA a season ago as he helped Ruston post a 30-6 record... He also finished with 117 punchouts and just 14 walks, a ratio of 8.36-to-1... Burkhalter also participated in the Area Code Games in Los Angles as well as the East-West Showcase in Syracuse, N.Y. Chase Cater, a native of Rayville, La., will join the Warhawks after a two-year stint at Hinds Community College in Jackson, Miss... Schexnaider, the 2008 Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year, has guided the Warhawks to two Sun Belt Conference championships, including the 2012 Sun Belt Conference tournament championship. Under his tutelage, the program won the regular season conference championship in 2008, Schexnaider s second season. He followed that success by leading ULM to the 2009 Sun Belt Tournament championship game. The 2012 season was marked by an exciting run through the postseason tournament. The 5th-seeded Warhawks won two extra-inning games, including a 13 inning walk-off victory over top seeded Florida Atlantic. Schexnaider s team went on to defeat Arkansas State to claim the Sun Belt championship and advance into the NCAA post season. ULM began regional play with a narrow 4-1 loss to LSU, but followed with a victory over Belmont before falling to Oregon State. The Warhawks finished the season among the last 40 teams remaining in the NCAA post season tournament. These accomplishments are elevated by the fact that the Sun Belt consistently ranks among the top seven conferences in the NCAA based on RPI. Schexnaider has amassed a record in his seven-plus seasons on the Bayou. In his tenure as ULM s skipper, the Warhawks have posted the three highest home run totals in school history. In fact, ULM combined for more home runs in 2008 and 2009 (178) than it did in the four seasons ( home runs) before Schexnaider took over the club. The future of the program looks promising as Schexnaider and his staff have continued to put together recruiting classes that are earning national recognition. Each of the last three years Collegiate Baseball has tabbed ULM s recruiting class as one of the tops in the nation and Baseball America named the 2011 class as one of the best in the region alongside LSU, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Baylor. The Warhawks put together their most successful back-to-back seasons since the 2000 and 2001 campaigns with a combined 66 victories in 2008 and Over the past four seasons the Warhawks have knocked off four ranked teams - all on the road - including a victory over No. 5 Arkansas in ULM became the first team to defeat Ole Miss on opening day since 1981 when it defeated the No. 17 Rebels 6-5 to open the 2010 season. ULM defeated a pair of teams that advanced to the 2009 College World Series - Arkansas and Southern Miss - and came within two extra-inning losses of sweeping their series against both schools. The offensive and defensive transformation under Schexnaider has been remarkable to say the least. ULM has posted the top two team batting averages, the top two hits totals, two of the top three runs scored totals, two of the top three doubles totals, the top two RBI totals, two of the top four fielding percentage totals and the top two double plays turned totals in school history.
