6 2 BRUSSELS, CAPITAL OF EUROPE Over the past few years, Brussels has shown a particularly strong political ambition to develop cycling. A new model of urban mobility is being introduced that favours cycling, thanks to numerous facilities promoting this practice in and on the outskirts of the city. In Brussels, the number of cyclists rose by 50% between May 2015 and May 2016, according to a count conducted by Brussels Mobility. As the Minister of Mobility has declared, Cycling has become a credible mobility alternative in Brussels (see Le Soir newspaper of 11 September 2016). As well as being the national capital, Brussels is also the capital of Europe, and as such has a high profile both within Belgium and internationally. Its position at the crossroads of Europe makes it a hub for different European countries. The capital is home to the various institutions for which the vast majority of European civil servants work. BRUSSELS: MOBILITY WEEK The BIKE BRUSSELS Fair is organised at the heart of European Mobility Week, including Car- Free Sunday in Brussels on 17 September This day brings together hundreds of thousands of cyclists in the streets of Brussels. Most of the activities will either start from or take place on the esplanade of the BIKE BRUSSELS Fair. A great opportunity for maximum visibility for all lovers of two-wheeled transport! 6

7 3 B2B, DEALERS MEETING The Bike Brussels Fair is also an opportunity for manufacturers and retailers to meet. Business meetings can be held spontaneously or by appointment in a VIP area specially reserved for this purpose: the «Bike Brussels dealer lounge». The venue will be carefully laid out to facilitate commercial exchanges and encounters. In addition, in response to requests from many manufacturers and importers, our partners from Brussels Entreprises Commerce and Industry ( be) will join us and the various sector federations in organising a dinner for the entire sector as well as a networking session and a product forum to present new developments. The aim of all these business events is to facilitate meetings between different parties with a view to the conclusion of commercial agreements that will boost the bicycle sector. The Fair will also be a great opportunity to try the typical culinary specialities of Brussels 7

8 4 SEMINARS, LECTURES, ACTIVITIES, TESTS BIKE BRUSSELS is more than just a bike show: it also features a packed programme of events and activities fully coordinated by Pro Velo. A SEMINAR AND VARIOUS LECTURES An international seminar on Friday 15 September will be organised by Brussels Mobility (Brussels-Capital Region) and Pro Velo. It will be aimed at professionals (manufacturers, dealers, public officials, government agencies, companies, urban planners and others) and will highlight successful initiatives in Belgium and abroad. Numerous lectures throughout the four days of the Fair will present new products and solutions that can facilitate the use of the bike. TE BIKE BRUSSELS AWARDS A major exhibition will also be devoted to the Bike Brussels Awards, highlighting technological innovations and good practices that promote cycling. A RANGE OF ACTIVITIES ON TE ESPLANADE These include festive events, entertainments, test tracks, training sessions and guided tours of Brussels. TEST RIDES ON INDOOR TRACK AND OUTDOOR COURSE A large area is devoted to a test track which can be used by visitors to try out the various bikes (electric bikes and all other products present at the Show). VARIOUS ACTIVITIES FOR TE VERY YOUNG Numerous educational activities on the subject of mobility will be offered on the esplanade and around the indoor and outdoor test tracks. 8

9 5 A UNIQUE VENUE: TOUR & TAXIS TE TOUR & TAXIS SITE IS A SYMBOL OF URBAN REGENERATION IN BRUSSELS AND TE RESTORATION OF TE CITY TO ITS PEOPLE. 2 km from the Grand-Place, this venue has a warm and friendly atmosphere that is ideal for soft mobility. Its central position at the heart of the city, not far from the new pedestrian zone and bike-friendly developments, symbolises the friendlier, more human city of tomorrow. This exhibition centre already hosts large-scale prestigious events such as the International Exhibition of Contemporary Art (Art-Brussels), the Belgian Book Fair, the BRAFA international art and antiquities fair and the Salon du Design. 9

Pro Velo, which will coordinate all programme content and activities, has a team of more than 75 people and nearly 25 years expertise in the promotion of cycling as a means of daily transport (through the organisation of campaigns aimed at the general public, publications, symposiums, lectures, training sessions and other activities). It will be assisted by the organisations Gracq, Fietsersbond and Cyclo, as well as Les Ateliers de la Rue Voot, which together represent the vast majority of cycling enthusiasts in Belgium, with tens of thousands of members and supporters. We know from past experience that it is important to assemble quality content in order to give visitors information and training that is as comprehensive as possible so that they can familiarise themselves with the products and solutions presented. 12
