4 LOCKING, an essential stae for lockout. Irrespective of whether servicin or work involves an item of electrical installation or work equipment, a lockout must be done to ensure the safety of the teams workin on the job. Dependin on the environments, default lockout accidents are caused by the: Continued presence of live conductor parts for electrical installations. Presence of pressurized fluids (hydraulic circuits). Presence of unstable mechanical systems. The correspondin recoendations must be applied for each risk, but in all cases specific lockin with reard to the risk considered must be set up. Sometimes the overall analysis of risks reveals a combination of the different risks which makes a more extensive lockin operation mandatory. This is especially the case with electricity production equipment. What does lockin mean? The purpose of lockin is to separate cut off or neutralisation parts with a suitable, and sufficiently protected system to prevent any operation by unauthorised persons (switchin on power for an electrical installation). Lockin is enerally accompanied by sins. For the electrical domain, settin up and removin the lockout are described in French and European standards (EN110-1). For electricity production equipment. More enerally, the safety recoendations are included in Directive CE7: 2009/10/EC on the minimum health and safety recoendations for usin work equipment.
