As part of the Elk ceremony of initiation, new members are asked to pledge their allegiance to the symbol of our country the American flag. As Elks, patriotism and devotion to country are at the core of our organization. This past Sunday Lodge members came together at our Lodge to honor the American flag and its evolution from the birth of our nation in the original American colonies to the current design of our country s flag. Listening to the recitals of how various chapters of American history have impacted the flag s design, one could see that many people throughout America s formation and development were impassioned to do whatever was necessary to live free in a democratic society, and they designed flags to reflect their patriotism and beliefs. Members of our Lodge have fought in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and Desert Storm. They have put their lives on the line to battle those who would threaten our democracy. Wherever they served and fought, the American flag was flown and served as inspiration and testimony to the greatness of our nation. 4 TH of July...Independence Day is our next national holiday. We will celebrate with BBQ and fireworks at our Lodge. As we enjoy the festivities of the day, let us fly our nation s flag proudly and never forget how privileged we are to live free in a democratic nation. A notice will be posted at the Lodge entrance and in advance in the newsletter to let members know that an event or meeting is non-smoking. Smoking will be permitted outside of the Lodge at the front entrance, lower level entrance, and on the deck. The Lodge meeting room & lower level room are already non-smoking areas. If you have any questions, please contact me or any member of the Board. It will now be known as CHICKEN-FISH FRY, & we have added a new menu item: Chicken Strips $7.50 All other menu items will remain the same. P.E.R. meetings are being rescheduled beginning in August. The meetings will no longer be held on the 3 rd Thursday of even numbered months. Also, thank-you to Miss Rachel Nieters, a senior at Lindbergh High School, who sang the National Anthem, God Bless America, and God Bless the USA. A very talented young lady whose voice greatly enhanced the program. 4 POT LUCK DINNER & VETERANS FOOD COLLECTION On April 22 nd members of Crestwood Lodge came together for a Pot Luck Dinner & Food Collection for Veterans. Every member who donated received a military services themed chocolate treat made by event coordinator, Mary Corso. Following a great dinner, the group enjoyed rounds of Show Me the Money and the Cards game against the Brewers Cardinals won 4-1! The generosity of members netted $300 in food products and $500 in cash for the Food Pantry. Great job! MOST VALUABLE STUDENT SCHOLARS VISIT CRESTWOOD LODGE On May 25th & June 8th the top five (5) winners of the Most Valuable Student competition visited Crestwood Lodge to thank members for their support and to share their goals for the future.
