3 FROM THE P&C PRESIDENT Family Fun Night THIS Friday night 6 March tarting at 5pm Due to the cyclone and reulting bad weather the Family Fun night wa potponed to THIS FRIDAY. Deanne McDonald and Simone Flint have done an amazing job co-ordinating thi event and had extra work to do with having the night recheduled. The Swim Club Open Night i being held the ame night tarting at 6.30pm. Bring the kid wimmer and come along to ee what happen! Thank you in anticipation to the familie who will be volunteering their time to convene tall or upervie ride or ell food and drink. The Sweet Stall i being run by Kerry Cox and till need ome donation of home-made weet. Sweet donation to the chool taffroom on Friday 6 th March am and pm. WHSS Family Portrait Fundraier The P & C i holding a Family Portrait Fundraier on Saturday 21 March in the library annexe from 9am 4pm. We did thi lat year and the familie who had photo taken were very pleaed with the reult. Brett McDonald from BMG photography will provide you with a Family Portrait for only $20 (valued at $80) - choice of colour or black and white mounted print. 100% of thi money i retained by WHSS. Reearch ha found that parental involvement in chooling wa a trong indicator of a child ucce. Children whoe parent had high apiration for their kid, backed up by their involvement in the chool community, had a better chance of doing well regardle of wealth, ethnicity or the kind of chool they attended. I undertand that not every parent i able to volunteer time during week day (I work full time), but there are alway opportunitie for parent and grandparent to get involved in the chool community. The P & C and their ub committee alway welcome freh idea, and attending the monthly meeting give unique inight into the iue facing chool and the chance for informal chat with other parent. Helping out on tuckhop, aiting with reading group, covering book for the library at home, pulling weed at a working bee or baking cake for the cake tall are all way that we can be involved. Whatever time or knowledge you are able to offer, know that it will be much appreciated every little bit count! If you are already involved in the Weller Hill chool community you will know how rewarding it i huge thank to all thoe fantatic volunteer. If you are reading thi and thinking I don t have anything to offer think again! Harmonie on the Hill our chool fete and muic fetival will be held in Augut and everyone who want to could find a way to utilie their talent. Maybe you ait in etting up, erve on a tall elling food or drink, organiing the raffle, uperviing the ride etc. Over the pat few year the P & C ha organied one working bee each term to focu on area around the chool that need improving. We need a peron who would be willing to co-ordinate the Working Bee for Mot working bee are on Saturday or the occaional Sunday o it doen t clah with the many porting event and activitie our kid are involved in. Think about taking on thi important role if you are intereted pleae me ASPA. There will be lot of tak that need to be done and a the aying goe Many hand make light work. 4 TRAFFIC ACTION GROUP The Traffic Action Group will have our firt meeting of 2015 next Thurday evening, 12 March at 6:30 in the library annexe. We will again be looking at the iue and challenge that exit around traffic at Weller Hill State School. - key concern are around traffic congetion at the Scout Den carpark and the Toohey Road two minute zone at pick up time in the afternoon. - we ak that if parent can delay their journey by minute it will eae the congetion coniderably - to aid the collection proce, we are aking that the family urname i diplayed on the on the dahboard or back of the paenger ide interior unvior which can be put down a the approache to ait u to have the children ready to get into car a they approach. The name card will be printed by the chool and can be collected from chool adminitration - we are alo eeking volunteer to ait a marhall. Training for the marhall will be provided. Remember: Toohey Road School Side Between 7am 9am and 2:30pm 3:30pm trictly 2 minute zone NO PARKING. Parent are not to leave their car during thee time. Toohey Road Oppoite Side Between 7am 9am and 2pm 4pm trictly 10 minute parking zone. Pleae oberve the yellow line and do not park pat the deignated area. A Toohey Road i very buy during thee time, parent parking over the yellow line are making it very difficult for our neighbour to enter and exit their propertie. Scout Den Area There are deignated parallel parking pot and a large gravel/dirt area for parking. Parent are not to park in the circular area of the driveway, one half i no tanding and the other i a 2 minute drop off zone between 7am 9am and 2:30 3:30pm. (Sign to be updated by the council). Parent are to drop tudent only in the 2 minute drop off zone and not in the driveway entry cloet to Weller Road. Chamberlain Street There are ome deignated parallel parking pot. Could parent pleae enure that they do not park too cloe to the neighbour driveway a thi hinder the entry and exit to their propertie. Abiding by the above enure the afety of all our tudent. CAPTAINS CORNER Congratulation to all who participated in the Biathlon lat Friday. A big thank to all the teacher, parent and tudent who helped make the event a huge ucce. But none of it would have happened without M Sloan organizing it right down to the lat detail. We hope everyone had fun on the firt day of Interchool port and Rec port. 5 2015 National Day of Action againt Bullying and Violence Orange Day Aembly: We will be holding our annual Orange Day aembly on Friday 20 March. March a part of the National Day of Action againt Bullying and Violence. We will again take the pledge and tudent, teacher and parent are encouraged to wear omething orange on the day to how their upport. (Given the nature of the occaion, there will be no donation required and tudent mut wear appropriate clothing and no hair dye etc) POSTER COMPETITION A poter competition i now open to all tudent in Prep to Year 6. We are looking for the mot powerful and thought provoking poter to carry a meage that bullying won t be tolerated in the chool. Poter entrie need to be ubmitted to the Office by Wedneday the 18 th of March. The winning Poter will be announced on aembly on Friday the 20 th of March and diplayed prominently in the chool for the entire chool year. Poter are to be ubmitted A3 or A4 ize. Pleae make ure you clearly mark your name and cla on the back of your poter. RESOURCES FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN AFFECTED BY BULLYING Parent are trongly encouraged to read the Weller Hill State School Reponible Behaviour Plan for Student and to browe the Bullying No Way Web Site which ha been created by the government to upport all chool communitie deal proactively with bullying and violence If you wih to dicu any matter relating to bullying or violence within the chool pleae do not heitate to contact your cla teacher in the firt intance or the adminitration of the chool. 9 FROM THE ART ROOM Every tudent need to wear an art hirt for activitie in the Art Room. Thee hirt provide ome protection againt paint etc. and help keep uniform clean. There are till many tudent without an art hirt. It would be appreciated if you could check to ee if your child/children have ome ort of protective garment. Thi doe not have to be a purchaed apron. The bet thing i a large, old t hirt a they cover everything, are eay to put on and don t cot anything! Art Club will be on a Monday thi year, in econd break at playtime. All tudent are welcome to come and hare in creating a collaborative artwork or to work on their own project. A number of our taff will be attending a Primary Art Network twilight conference which will be held on Thurday March 5. I have been invited to preent a workhop at the conference, which will be baed on a unit of work I have developed for Queenland Studie Authority uing the new National Curriculum for the Art. 10 Weller Hill State School Fete Sunday 2 Augut Thi year, the chool biennial fete called Harmonie on the Hill will be held on Sunday 2 Augut Thi event i the bigget fundraier on the chool calendar and i an opportunity to howcae the muical and artitic talent of our tudent, o pleae keep thi date free! Wanted! Stall convener A fete i only a great fete becaue there are great tall convener. Many of our 2012 tall convener have volunteered to convene tall again. Thank heap! However, peronal commitment change & ome convener no longer have children at the chool. All clae will be aigned a tall, o now i the time to have your ay and volunteer for the tall of your choice! The BBQ and Jam & Pickle tall both require a convener. We re till in the proce of contacting 2012 convener and will advie of other vacancie in coming week. Are your cupboard bulging? Well, now i the time to think about collecting the book you wih to donate to the econd hand book tall. We d love any book, don t throw it out, donate it! Arrangement for donation of book will be made at a later date, o pleae hold onto your book for now. Harmonie Bring-In Day In 2012, Bring-In Day were popular. Thi i where chool familie were encouraged to donate a deignated item to be ued by the tall convener. The generoity of the chool community wa overwhelming.
