Reports was accepted from various committee chairman and the audit was accepted. Revised copies of the By-laws and Standing Rules were presented to the board members. If you would like a copy ed to you, let us know. A motion to cancel participation in Christmas Paredes was made and passed. Various Committee chairman and delegates were appointed. Please support your elected board, appointed chairman and delegates in their activities. We agreed to support the OSDF Fall Roundup during September 2017 at Western Hills State park, Sequoyah Lodge, Jim and Julia Reese will be the lead and coordinate the planning with Norvell & Mary Dalley, OSDF Third Vice President. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend our scheduled visitations. Belles and Beaus: June 13, 2017 Lake Keystone: September, 2017 Ramblers: TBA Lake Keystone is conducting lessons 6:30 pm Tuesday and Thursday nights at the Case Community Center in Sand Springs. They have a good group of new dancers and are requesting help with angels. For an address of the Case Community center and other information about lessons contact Jim Reese at Our Annual Caller Appreciation Dinner was held on February 4 th at Brothers Houligan. It was well attended with 35 dancers. Our three callers and wives were in attendance and gifts were presented to the wives. A good time was had by all and our callers were shown our appreciation. Thanks to Susan Villa and Shirley Hazlett for their efforts in making this a successful event. Everyone plan to attend this event next year. The OSDF Spring Round Up and Board of Directors Meeting is scheduled for March 18 th and 19 th in Ada at the Holiday Inn Express, Reservation deadline for a reduced rate is March 11 th. Your elected board and delegates will be attending. If you would like to participate, let us know and we will you the information and reservation form. We would encourage more participation from our members. Also, mark your calendars to attend the Oklahoma Square Dance Federation, OSDF, Annual Festival and Meeting on November 4 th and 5 th. 2 This month we would like bring up what courtesy in square dancing really means. We know that everyone has been told of how to act at square dances so all we want to do is review what would normally be discussed at some time during a set of lessons. Courtesy in square dancing means, of course, personal hygiene, dressing properly. The dressing properly just means being dressed to dance whether in slacks, blue jeans, prairie skirts, or in square dance apparel. This of course is aimed at the ladies of square dance courtesy. Courtesy in square dancing for men means for the men to always wear long-sleeved shirts to that the ladies don t have to contend with hot, sweaty, hairy arms. So much for apparel, even though the attitude has changed quite a bit in the last few years to be more flexible to attend dances. Courtesy in square dancing means, when the caller starts the record that s the time to get on the dance floor and help form squares for dancing because it is very awkward for the caller to have to beg dancers to fill squares when those people that are forming the squares are ready to dance and are hoping to have a corner very shortly. Don t walk through squares, courtesy means you don t care who is in the square because you are there to dance and have fun. Once you are in a square courtesy means you will not walk out of a square until the tip is over. Courtesy means when the tip is over you should thank everyone individually in the square and let them know what a good time you had dancing with them during that tip. Being courteous is a courtesy that all dancers should extend to the other dancers in not only the square but to all the dancers at the dance throughout the evening. This is something that we know we do not have to emphasize. Courtesy means when you are leaving the dance, whether it is before that dance is over, or at the end of the dance, that as a dancer you should thank those individuals that put on the dance, provided the food, and entertainment. Courtesy means before you leave a dance let the Club President know how enjoyable the evening was to you. Courtesy means telling the Caller if you enjoyed the dance that he or she called. 3 Belles & Beaus News With the arrival of the new year we expected to have some real January weather with cold, snow, etc, but it didn't happen! We have been blessed with a mild winter this year save a couple of rather cold snaps. That 86 degree temperature on February the 11th got me out in the garden. I have planted potatoes, onions, and the early crop stuff. We hope you have been enjoying the nice weather also. At least with the nice weather we have not had to cancel any dances. We have been having good dances that have been well attended. We started the new year with a black and white dance; I told the group at half time that I thought I was back watching TV in the early 60's. Everyone looked great as we started the new year. Cecil had a good selection of songs, reflecting seasonally "Ole Man Winter". We had our second dance of the new year on January 24th. We had our valentines dance on February 14th, we saw a lot of red/white and pink for that dance. Cecil had a good collection of love songs for this sweetheart dance. Our second dance of February will be on the 28th, it is a Mardi Gras theme dance. Belles and Beaus had 11 in attendance at Rushing Stars the first of February, so we now have one of their banners. We had 10 in attendance at the Pepper Steppers dance on February 10th; they had one of our banners so we now have it back in our possession. We had 8 Specks at our Valentines Dance, so we returned their banner. We have been getting out and about as we take advantage of this nice winter weather. We will be dancing on March 14th and 28th, we will have a St Patrick's Dance on the 14th. Then in April we will dance on April 11th and the 25th. 4 Lake Keystone Squares News Lake Keystone Squares is now dancing at the Sand Springs Church of God with caller Bill and Janis Powell. Bill called his first dance for us in December and it was really great. Bill is an energetic caller and had made our dances exciting and fun. The dance on March 3 will be Mardi Gras celebration and the dance on March 17 will be a St. Patrick's Dance. Come out and enjoy the fun. Lake Keystone is in the process of giving lessons at the Case Community Center in Sand Springs. Currently, there are 13 lessonees and they are learning all the calls quickly. All in attendance are having a good time. 5 Ramblers News Ramblers had a wonderful Valentine's dance last Saturday! Seven folks were lessonees and a good group of regular kids and adults! Four crock pots of food, chips, crackers, cookies, cake. Everyone received a chocolate rose or a cup of chocolates. And we had a drawing for the stuffed bear that lights and sings a Valentine's song. The winner's three year old grandson loved it! CONGRATULATIONS TO BILLY AND DOROTHY CROW. THEIR ANNIVERSARY IS ON VALENTINE'S DAY!. AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JERRY ABEL WHO TURNED 81 YEARS YOUNG! HE SQUARE DANCED, AND LINE DANCED! IN FACT HE TEACHES US! THANK YOU, JERRY! We had a great dance for Feb 25th also. Richie did a tribute to Johnny Cash. March 11 will be the St Pat's Irish tunes dance, and March 25th the theme will be Spring is Sprung. Our April 8 dance will celebrate Easter, and the next dance will be April 22. We are still dancing at the Glenpool Senior Citizens Center. 6:30 lessons and about 7:45 for regular dance. 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month.
