1 O k l a h o m a S q u a r e D a n c e F e d e r a t i o n, I n c. E s t a b l i s h e d On the web at: Volume 54 No.1 Inside this issue: Lead Story Headline President Mike & Myrna Perkins Feb/March 2017 President Myrna and I hope that everyone gets involved in this year's THEME Be Part of the 2017 C.I.A. Square Dancers We want dancers to be COMMITTED to helping our New Dancers, our Clubs, our Districts and our state. We want dancers to be INVOLVED in all activities. Not just club or district dances, but in fund raising, lessons and special events. Look into being officers or committee chairman. Whether it be on a club, district or state level. We thank each of you for the opportunity to serve this year as your OSDF President. We look forward to serving with the other elected officers; Bill Guthrie and Wanda Oliver as 1st Vice president, Lonnie and Jody Billings as 2nd Vice president, Norvell and Mary Dalley as 3rd Vice president, Vernon and Lois Schimmels as Secretary, Gene and Barbara Morton as Treasurer and Jim and Julia Reese as Immediate Past President. We appreciate each of the following volunteering to serve as committee chairmen. Glenn and Roselind McCulley as Accountant, Mike and Iris Huddleson as Caller Coordinator, Cecil and Barbara Burton as Education, Ron and Barbara Smith as Growth and Development and Parliamentarian, Avis Strasner and Lorraine Conner as Historian, Rod and Lois Ford as Insurance, Terry and Sonya Savell Jones as Program Book and Webmaster, Jim and Julia Reese as Program Ads and Visit Nine, Glen and Linda Bray as Publicity, Bob and Melissa Thomas as SASHAY Editor, and Glenda Reynolds and Stan Taylor as Singles Coordinator. A new committee this year, one we hope will get a lot of participation, is Hall of Fame. Jim a nd Ruth Ford are chairman. They will be contacting the district presidents with information. We thank all of the above and the district presidents for helping make our informal meeting such a success. We want dancers to be AMBITIOUS to improve the FUN, Fellowship and Square Dancing that we all enjoy. If we all become C.I.A. Square Dancers and fulfill this theme, square dancing everywhere can't help but GROW. As the comic strip POGO from the 50's said "We have met the enemy, and he is us!" Those of us that have only been dancing will see more dancers to dance with and more dances to attend. Be part of this 'wave of growth' so you can say "I helped make this happen!" District Presidents have all been sent district assignments for the Spring Round-up to be held in Ada March 18-19, They will need volunteers to help do these assignments. The more volunteers the smaller the job each dancer has to do. Be a CIA Square Dancer! District Presidents, it is also time to send us your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice for the state officers to make an official visit to your district. We want to make a year's calendar of events and dances to attend. Please send those to us ASAP. Please contact us and keep us aware of dancers with health issues. Everyone needs a little 'pick-me-up' when life puts us in the 'dumps'. We hope everyone is aware by now that the Federation purchased yard signs and furnished the clubs and districts one each free. We still have a few that can be purchased by any OSDF member for $38. Please contact us for delivery to you. Mike and Myrna Perkins

We are from South Central District, some people know us but if you don't hope we meet Ford Mustang Coupe the Car of the year!!!!!! Think back to that year and time hope it was a good year for you. If you have a date that you might want the car you can me or call and we can hopefully full fill your wish. 6 Webmaster SONYA SAVELL-JONES Yellow Rocks and Kisses to all my wonderful Square and Round Dance Friends. Hope you have had a moment to look over the website: I've made a lot of changes starting with updating the Calendar!! the complete year is up and as I receive your "Special" Dance/ Festival information and flyers, they will be posted to help spread the word. This will also enable you and your club to better plan your special event when there is not another dance scheduled. So, get your information ASAP and be the FIRST to hopefully book that date and have a wonderful showing!!! By not double booking a date, will enable dancers to freely make the choice to come visit and not be torn between two obligation and decide to just stay home so not to hurt anyone's feelings. All VISIT NINE dances will be indicated in RED Clubs!! I have incorporated ALL the clubs (that I now of) to this one location. No matter what District you dance, there are times you might want to travel and see is dancing in that area. Please be sure to check this out since I gathered most of my information from newsletters. Callers/ Cuers, if you have a Caller/ Cuer run club within a certain District, please let me know and I will get it posted. There are a lot of Advance and Challenge Dancers out there that do not know of some of these and therefore are left out. Special Events!! If you are planning a "Special Event", Graduation, Anniversary, etc. and have a flyer, please get it to me ASAP so I can post it. If you have a recent photo of the Caller/Cuer for this event, it would be very helpful sending that to me as well. It takes a lot of time for me to surf the net looking for pictures!!! Caller/Cuer Photo's Caller & Cuers, please send me a current photo of you for me to use when I post your special events! Send one by yourself or with your partner, the choice is yours and would be very beneficial when dancers can see who the Caller/Cuer for the dance is. I'd like to post everyone's picture on their club's listing. I've been burning the midnight oil almost every night since the 1st and think I've just about got the website looking good. There will be updates ALL THE TIME so be sure to log on and see what's new! Until next time, Loads of Love, Yellow Rocks and Kisses - Remember, your webmaster loves you! Sonya Savell- Jones XOXO's Central District A lot of our clubs have started or continuing lessons, and graduating dancers in January. It does seem that all the parades, exhibitions etc. have helped. I am encouraging all districts and their clubs to participate in any thing that comes up. Lets build up Dancing. CD Jamboree is in the next few months, just finalizing up preparations at this time. Will let you know when, where and what time as soon as possible. This will be a visit 9 dance also. Central District Summer Celebration Dance (formerly Barn Dance) will be on a 5th. Saturday in July. We have a young and upcoming caller by the name of Justin Russell coming in to call. We hear he is wonderful and fun. I am excited to hear him. This is a Visit 9 dance also. I would like to encourage ALL dancers to go visit. There is a dance somewhere almost every night. Dancing is good for you, and keeps you young. Go to different clubs, go to different districts. Just visit! See you at a dance soon! Remember "Dancing adds Color to Life!" Steve and Terri Denton Central District Presidents Page 6 Feb/March 2017

7 Northwest District It has been a busy fall and winter in Northwest Oklahoma. We missed the past December/January Issue. Our apologies for that. The benefit dance for Jim Robertson held in November was a huge success. Rod Ford wrote a summary of the State Officers attending, District representation, total square dancers. State Officers: President, Jim and Julia Reese 2nd Vice Pres: Mike and Myrna Perkins OSDF Secretary: Vernon and Lois Schimmels OSDF Visit Nine: Carl and Bobbie Wilson OSDF Parliamentarians: Bill Guthrie & Wanda Oliver OSDF State Insurance Chairman: George and Shirley Hazlett Totals by districts: Northwest 38, Central 5, Green Country 4, Panhandle 6, Southern 2, Southwest 9, Northeast 2 Total attending 66 Over $ was raised between donations and silent auction. The Presidents ball will be held on February 18 th, 2017, Woodward Wranglers hosting. It should be noted the dance time for Woodward is 7:00 pm, effective January 21, Another change that occurred, the Christmas Dance for Harper County is going to be held on February 19 th, 2:30pm to 4:30pm, at the Kingman, KS armory. There is a flier attached. Christmas parties and Christmas dances were held by the district respective clubs. Club election of officers has been completed, with most officers remaining the same. Red Carpet Squares are having lesson on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm, at the Higgins Community Building in Higgins, TX. Please keep Joanne Price, Alva Twisters, in your prayers. She has had a couple of surgeries recently. We look forward to seeing her up and around as healing permits. Twisters have started spring lessons too. Graduation for the fall set of lessons will be on January 28 at Alva. The recent ice storm has affected members in our area. Electricity was restored quickly to most towns in Oklahoma, but there are members in the Texas panhandle that are still without as of this writing, and look to be out for many more days. Please keep affected members in your thoughts and prayers. Rodney & Margaret Wiederstein Panhandle District Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are thawing and hopefully by the time this publication goes out everyone will have their power back on. We really appreciate all the crews that have come to our aid during this ice storm has got to get better. We have some really great dances scheduled in the near future. The following dances will be at the VFW hall in Perryton. Feb. 4 Jimmy Gouge Mainstream/Plus This dance will benefit the local Food Bank. Feb. 16 Don Main Plus Dance March 4 Rod & Lois Ford Mainstream/Plus March 16 Lanny Weaklend Plus Dance Currently Robert Hutton is giving lessons in his garage south of Liberal. Lessons are on Tues. at 7:30. You can contact Robert at for more information. Robert will host a garage dance on March 25 at his home south of Liberal. It will be a fun afternoon dancing from 2 until 4:30. Saturday, April 29 Perryton Promenaders will host the Panhandle District Dance with Rod & Lois Ford doing the calling. We would love to have guests at our dances. All clubs are struggling and the only way to build is to support each other and to support your club. The distance you travel to another club is the same they will have to travel to visit you. YOU make the first move and go visit. Judy Tindell Volume 54, Issue 1 Page 7

8 Southwest District When the snow and ice come most of us would rather be in Florida, but when Florida has the hurricanes, we are sure glad we aren t. Well it s kind of the same story here. When you guys in Oklahoma got the snow and ice, I was glad we lived in Texas. Hope all of you made it through ok without too much damage. I have seen the same situations around here, so you have our sympathy. Things are going great in the Southwest District, three of our five clubs are having classes. Don t know how many new dancers we will wind up with, but they will be truly welcome. I always enjoy dancing with the new dancers. They are so enthusiastic, having fun, and just enjoy the hobby. The Southwest District will have 4 Visit-9 dances this year. They are: Spring Festival, April 22, 2017, in Weatherford, OK; Rt. 66 Jamboree, July 7-8, 2017, in Elk City, OK; Fall Festival, October 21, 2017 in Elk City, OK; and the New year s Eve Dance, December 31, 2017, location to be determined.
