3 Volume 50 No.1 Page 3 Central District Jim and Ruth Ford Greetings and Happy Dancing from Central District. As we begin another term as President of Central District Square Dance Association we are reminded of the many blessings of friendship and freedom choices in this great country in which we live. In 1963 we made the choice, with encouragement from friends who were members of Silver Spur OKC, to take one square dance lesson. With no intention to ever go back how could we have known the joy and worth of friendship available in our wonderful world of square dancing. At our first square dance lesson, we met a gem dandy of a caller in Gerald McWhirter. Now we know that caller as a dandy of a gentleman and proud to call him our friend and yours. Gerald and Sally started the club in March 1949 and on March 2, 2013 the club and Gerald will celebrate a grand Anniversary at the India Shrine Center. This year marks our 50 th year in square dancing. We have been there, done that and cherish the many opportunities for fun, fellowship and friendship in square dancing. Our theme this year says it all Together We Can Relate, Dedicate, Circulate! Swing your partner often, North Central District Tom and Margene Pearce Jim and Ruth Ford Central District President We normally dance the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month at the Sanger School in Stillwater. However, to accommodate some of the Festivals we decided in April that we would dance on alternate dates so some could go to the NE Festival. The dates that do not follow the 1st and 3rd Saturdays are marked with **. Tom and I have been busy going to Atchison, KS to a granddaughters basketball games. They have been playing very well, but it is a long trip and I don't feel good the next day after we get home. We feel very blessed to be able to go and enjoy, as I know many of you do things like this also. Pray for rain, our whole state and area needs it so badly. See you in a square soon, and keep dancing. Margene and Tom Pearce The North Central District and Stillwater Wagon Wheel club has set their dance dates for the first half of the year. The dates and callers are as follow: 2/9/13 Cecil Burton 2/23/13 Tommy Lee 3/2/13 TBA 3/16/13 State Roundup 4/6/13 NE District ** 4/13/13 Larry McClain **4/27/13 TBAl 5/4/13 Cecil Burton 5/18/13 Tommy Lee 6/1/13 Bill Burcham 6/15/13 Tommy Lee 7/6/13 No Dance Visit Nine Schedule Daniel and Phelica Scott Hello square dance friends. We are honored and find it very thrilling to be your State Visit 9 Chairman for Last year we heard a lot of great suggestions and comments. We strive to implement the suggestions and are always looking for input to get the Visit 9 promoted. Please keep up this great work fellow square dancers because YOU are what make the Visit 9 program so enjoyable. For 2012 we had 522 people sign in at the 21 Visit 9 dances held. Green Country had a whopping 86 sign in on one Visit 9 dance. Will they beat their track record this year or will someone else take that honor? Always sign in, even if you aren t actively pursuing Visit 9, who knows down the road you might decide you want to, and your signins always count. **It is not a bad idea if you are traveling a far piece to a Visit 9 dance to call ahead and make sure the dance is still on.** Sometimes weather or other things can interfere with a scheduled dance. If you would like to obtain a flyer for a Visit 9 dance or want more info let us know and we will you one or call us. We look forward to dancing through the state and hope to see you along the way. Up-coming Visit 9 dances: March 9 NW District~ Community Center 105 South 5th Street Kiowa, Kansas. Caller: Bob Jones from Ohio. On December 8, 2012 SDAGC Delegates and officers met for their annual meeting and elected a new board. Julia & I are honored to be a part of this group. Greg & Shelly Rose will serve as Vice President, Eddie & Melody Glover are the new Secretary and George & Shirley Hazlett will guard our money as Treasurer and John & Phyllis Mattison will take on the responsibility of Immediate Past President. We are honored to have such a well rounded board with a lot of experience and talent. SDAGC plans to visit our fellow dancers both at home and in other districts for the 2013 year. We hope you will find a place on your schedule to visit our clubs also. We will begin this program with a visit to Boot Scooters in Bartlesville on March 2 and enjoy their company as well as the calling of Steve Estep. On April 26 we will make our way to Skiatook to dance with Ramblers led by Rambling Richie Richardson. We are sure to have a great time at both visits. On March 9 we will honor our callers and their taws with a Caller Appreciation Dinner. We really do appreciate each and every one of them and need for them to know this. On November 16, 2013 we will host the Green Country Festival. A lot more about this will be said in the months to come. Please mark your calendar to be sure that another date does not get in the way of your attendance. The dancers of our district are so enthusiastic and friendly that we know this will be another great year for square dancing and for SDAGC. We look forward to seeing each of you in a square somewhere. We will be ever present at the OSDF functions, dancing and enjoying the company of our square dance friends. South Central District Avery and Missy Fuller Missy & I, first want to say that we hope everybody had a good Christmas and New Year's Day. Here in South Central District the holidays were filled with fun and excitement both with family and on the dance floor. We hope that you enjoyed your holidays as much as we enjoyed ours. I also want to go on to congratulate all the new Presidents and those who stepped up to take an office to help make our State Dance Association, the Districts and our Clubs run more smoothly. Thank you so very much for your help. Here in South Central District our theme is going to be "Let's Swing & Twirl in 2013". Missy and I are looking forward to all the many dances that we re going to have here in SCD along with the many opportunities that we will have to come visit other districts and clubs. This year we are going to visit everybody as much as we can. This gives us the opportunity to make new friends and to meet new dancers all over the state. We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to our Spring Roundup at Lake Murray on Feb 16. The theme will be "Winterfest" and I'm sure that Danny & Cheryl Lafleur our 1st VP would really enjoy having you. At the time of this writing we have 6 clubs that are up and running strong. We have one set of students that will graduate in about 9 weeks. That's because our solo's club is experimenting with running lessons twice a week for 10 weeks. The Swinging Chicks of Chickasha will be graduating a class on Sat, 19 Jan and we are ready to welcome those new dancers to our hobby. I know they will enjoy square dancing and the camaraderie as much as we all have. For those of you who don't know, in South Central District you can dance on every Fri night and most Sat nights. Our grand marches start at 8 o'clock and most often will have workshops starting at 7. If you would like to come visit us, or have any questions, please feel free to call us anytime.
